I saw the Stones in 75 and Richards came on late and wasted. Everyone cheered him. I didn't. He was reckless and pale white about half way through . He then turned his back on the crowd and stood in front of Charlie for about 10 minutes. Charlie all of a sudden gave Keith a nod and Keith turned around and played brilliantly like he was reborn. The Stones played longer because of Keith being late. The concert was like a wild ride on a roller coaster and best live performance ever for me . The Stones are the best at their worst 😜❗
I'm not one to say this time, or that time was better. The 70's weren't better than today, except i was young and i miss it. One thing for sure though, there isn't any decade that compare musically to the 70's. Every form you may listen to now and every form you can think of was created in that decade. No time was there ever more talented musicians playing everything and all with a rock edge. Every day it seemed like a new band was on the scene. I was so into listening to everything i thought was out there, but to this day i'm still finding things from then i hadn't heard before. There will never be another time musically again like it was in the 70's.
This was at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow . The band played 3 consecutive shows at that venue and this gig was their 3rd night on the Wednesday evening. The football game playing was the European Cup final between Bayern Munich & Saint Etienne which was been played at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Because of the travelling French and German soccer fans coming to town the City council imposed a special late night license so the bars could remain open to 3.00 am. I went to the Stones show at the Apollo and afterwards we partied at the clubs into the early morning hours. It was tough to get up for work the next day but then again I was only 20 years old at the time.
Eqx716 All one need do to understand Keith’s longevity is look at a photo of his Dad, Bert Richards. Looks like he could survive an atomic blast. Old school.
@@patrickcrowther9195 thats a good point. Bert and Keith's mother Doris lived till late 80s and 90s I believe. Hardy genetics, probably some brutish Celtic DNA in there. Probably descended from people who got smashed on strong mead and fought with clubs
I'm 45 & my 11 year year old daughter and I are huge stones fans! Never tire of their music or reading about them..they are the most fascinating, long playing band ever! Long live the stones!
The are huge! BUT........They wereld not the first. And i am not stalking about the " fabuleus 4 ", o no. Begin softies, New York City: Velvet Underground, feta. Vale, Reed (founders) alreydy could not stand hippy shit (almost before it was'ent known worldwide) and they sang about the RAW live as it was. Although i love the Stones, they began end 60thies as a real r&r band.
@@barendmethorst The Rolling Stones started in 1962 and the full lineup was together in 1963. I don’t know where you got this ‘late 1960’s’ stuff from - they had been together for 6 years by 1969
i love listening to Kieth, hes so great, what a guy, managed to survive ravishing his body for years and looks the part these days but when he speaks there comes out this shy gentle tone and persona which is just adorable.
They all have such lovely accents ❤ Keith Richards=coolest and sexiest bad boy of rock'n'roll ❤ Awesome band. Awesome music. Long live the Rolling Stones!
i'm 16; our generation does not suck! every generation has crappy music, and many people our age have good tastes in music. i heard a kid in my chemistry class playing a velvet underground song today!
He asked keith if he looked forward to the day he didn't have to tour and here it is 37 years later and they're still doing it. Greatest rock band to ever have existed.
I have watched this video clip at least 100 times and each time it makes me smile. Decades ago (OMG), I saw the entire unedited clip. Was highly rewarding since that captured the essence of raw 1970s Rolling Stones (unfiltered by sponsor dollars that mandated PC behavior). Would give my right arm to see that segment again; well hopefully before I become nothing but dust.
Funny - When I go to an event and I decide to throw on a fedora - my rings and chains etc etc , almost everyone , both young and old , say “ you trying for the Johnny Depp look “?? And I simply reply “ I have been dressing like this since the 80’s !! If I was trying to capture anyone else’s look it would be Keith Richards “! But I wasn’t trying to copycat. Just my style . My style for decades ( off and on ). Hey I admire Johnnys style - but we both owe it all to KEEF ♥️
The stylist girl is a smokin' hot stunning stunner to the bone(r)! So much so that I wish I could go back in time and reincarnate as Jagger or sumethin'. Wish I knew her name though!
Love You Live.. Abatoir, Paris.. Saw the VHS tape in a B&O Store in 1977, 78 first time with friends ..I had 13, 14 years old... The first contact with the Stones.. We started to buy records and became fans, then the first concert in 1982 and never stop till nowadays... Things happen by misterious ways...
''A band isn't a proper band if it doesn't play in front of people.'' True then, 15 years after they started, and true now, 44 years after those words were spoken.
Your generation dosn't suck as you age you'll find that nostalgia is often ideal from afar. find what is good abt this time - your time.it's here too. you only have to want it.
@Martin Luther pretty simple. As Charlie Mingus said "if it was good then, it's good now. " In the 80's I fell in love with jazz from the late 50's. I have a 20 year nephew that likes hard rock from the 70's. AC DC and such. People still listen to Bach. if it's good, it will stay around and be rediscovered.
Lovely honest interviewee. I bet she had great fun in those heady times of the Stones in their younger days. Her friends were probably a little jealous I would imagine. I saw them all and these times myself, I would've loved to have been backstage with them also...in my headier younger days lol. ✌
I think I was at that concert! I still have my ticket (£3.50!) for The Stones at Glasgow Apollo on 12th May 1976. That would have been "Bianca's 5th Wedding Anniversary" and the football match would have been the European Cup Final (also played in Glasgow that night) where Bayern Munich beat Saint-Etienne 1-0. Bill mentions "hit the bar twice, the French", but I have no idea what "Scotland win" Ronnie was talking about!?! I think I also remember the final score being announced from the stage. That was my first Stones concert and I've seen them six or seven more times since.
Haha yes Colin! It's you man! I was there at the gig with you, and Dave too. I still have my ticket as well! And we're still Stones obsessives after all these years eh :)
It’s so cool running into you on here … What are the chances!?!? Haha My first Stones show was in 81 at JFK stadium Philly Pa … They looked like ants onstage . I vowed to never again go to a stadium show . Oh ! They didn’t have the big screen back then either !! Anyway got to see them play at much smaller venues over the last few decades . The Stones are Legends ! I just love Em !! I could write for hours on my Stones experiences. Instead I’m going to go pour a cup of coffee and listen to Exile . Have an awesome day 🇺🇸🤠♥️🔪
@@tubes5150 Hi tubes5150. Just stumbled on this video again and read your post. Yes; that's the Keef Scarf. He wore those Prayer Scarves throughout the 70s and early 80s. Style icon then and still one now!
Thank you! I looked up Keith pictures in Google to try to discern when he morphed from handsome rocker to Jack Sparrow and failed. It’s 1976! He’s clearly changing from one to the other in mid-morph here.
47 years later, mick is 80 years now and , they just announced a new single. What a great band. Like Keith said, a band is not a band if they go on the road.
Rush is still together & Led Zep will always be a classic, but I agree, the stones are like no other...I've been a bit obsessed since reading Keith's biog, Life last year! Rock on my friend. I'm always glad to hear of our younger generation enjoying 60's 70's music..I work in lots of high schools and can attest to the fact that a few handfuls of kids do have good taste!! (:
Depp actually asked Keith if he could base Jack Sparrow on his persona. I just realized why Sparrow has that permanent sway, lol. Keith playing his Father didn't happen until much later. The world's Most Elegantly Wasted Man, lol.
and kids i am 54 and i am still watching it.....the rolling stones just might be the greatest rock and roll band of all time......keep listening it will do ya good......this is what music is supposed to be....
The StarFucker tour was amazing.Mick was HOT in Hot Pink with "diamond"s wrapped around his ankles. He Blew my mind how he checked everybody out front out from all angles of that awesome star stage! !
Keith is so honest in this interview; describes perfectly what it is like being a Stone where the 2 hours you are on stage is really all that matters ...the rest of the day disappears. Not for the meek.
Every generation has crappy music, agreed. But: There was never as much crappy stuff as it is now, and so little original, good stuff. The level of quality the current young generation is happy with ... scary. Peter Kroll Singapore
@Lori miss The OP his deleted his post. And the music has gotten even worse. Now they started digging out the dead from their graves, such as Whitney Houston, and release new mixes of some fart they made in front of the microphone.
@@SW-fn7cl I do think so. That most popular music must sound familiar, mostly by having the same 4 chords, that is already since more than 20 years. Like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oOlDewpCfZQ.html But today it is even worth. Most pop tunes use computerised sound producing electronics. The manufacturer programs these sounds into the sound bank, and the musician just calls them up. No more need to create or invent a sound. Since there are not many manufacturers ... you know the rest. Like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aosT7motl3A.html&t=720
I've gotta say that both Mick & Keith are true style icons as well!!! Look how many bands have came after this particular vid look as shown here the shaggy unkempt dark hair" the kohl eyeliner under the eyes giving a burnt out look.plus of course, the fashion choices! That have even, progressed thru time, getting better & better! I love the Stones music anyway, but I'm not sure how many ppl noticed all this stuff" It's not all about judging them for the drugs....then your judging so many other bands as well. So that's dumb. Either you love them, Or you hate them. I love them, other than The mighty Zeppelin, they are the VERY BEST BAND IVE EVER SEEN LIVE BC THEY GET A CROWD MOVING !! That's Sir MICK! 👑Still A a King!!!! Mick & Keef Forever!!! One of the best lyricist team EVER!!!! Yeah for us BRITS!💥💥💥✌🏻❤️❤️❤️😘🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸😎😎😎😎 Ps channel name is funny...I get it is A Sttones tune!
It's a very interesting time in their history, as they were still playing relatively small venues, I think Earl's Court held about 17,000, and there was something like a million ticket applications for what was going to be four concerts but was increased to six. So 102,000 - just over a tenth of the demand. In a very few years they would be playing outdoor stadiums and arenas, 60,000 plus. My first Stones ticket, Earls Court 76 was £4, though I paid more for it (£10). The last one was just over £100 at Twickenham in about 2000.
I love this, I remember it being on ITV the night they played London Earl's Court May 21st '76 a (my first concert) and being annoyed I couldn't get it on video, I've seen it a hundred times since, great times RIP Charlie Watts
In another thread about Led Zeppin somebody wrote: "When I was young I could ask a 17 yo girl, if she would like to go with me to a Led Zeppelin concert, and the amazing part was she likely would say yes." I think that hits it. Peter Kroll, Singapore
I'm 40 and I couldn't give MissLouiseeMary a better answer and advice!!! You said it so well : Young people like her are growing forces!!! Have a nice day.
Most Bands Today, enter a Studio with Drums,Bass, and Guitar, Perhaps Keyboards There is No Experimentation whatsoever with other Instruments to diversify their sound and to Add different Textures and Time Signatures. Therefore , they are perfectly content to write Songs that All Sound the Same.
Wow I remember when the Stones were young. I wish they could be this young forever. I dont like them much being as old as they are now...its almost frightning!
now keith knows damn well that aint no damn salt tablet he's putting in his mouth, LMAO...but bless him for saying it for the camera's and having that milk out...LOL
Mick was always ready to make moves and being able to think fast and be on the go. Bill,he was always laid-back and just seem to basically go with the flow,he didn't seem to make too many waves. Ronnie he just was always laughing and being full if fun. Keith is always the one who always gets down to the point,of whatever is going on. Charlie is the glue that held everything and everyone together, especiallythe Keith and Ronnie. Whenever Keith was going off the rails,Charlie made sure that he was headed on theright track. Just like he was there for Ronnie wherever he needed that sound sage advice. Charlie, backbone, glue, and who had the mind set to keep stuff together on and off the road🎉😢
a prize to anyone who can find the date. I looked up Scotland fixtures and they played on the 6th, 8th and 15th against Wales, NI and England - but the England game would have been a 3pm one then on the 15th - so it must be 6th or 8th, but tour dates seem to have been 10th, 11th and 12th in Glasgow in may 1976.
So, this is what the boys were doing while they made us wait, sometimes an hour or more past their scheduled starting time. Between '72 and '89 I've been to six of their shows, they never took the stage on time, which played havoc with timing substance abuse for its max effects. Love their music but they havent always been very respectful of their fans.
gnute9 As I recall, the great majority of bands did the same thing, came on late. Bowie did it and said he learned it from Hitler. The idea is you let the anticipation build to a peak and then you come out (before it erupts into violence) and you get the best audiences. These days the Stones run the tour like a Swiss watch.
Hi, Dodger. Between '70 and '78 I attended a ton of RnR shows in the NY metro area, including Bowie at The Garden on a Monday night sometime in the early 70s. I can't recall many bands except for these guys messing with their fans by showing up late for a performance. In '78 at a JFK stadium 'general admission show' they were well over an hour late while fans crushed together were dropping like flies from the heat. If they weren't the World's Greatest RnR Band I might hold a grudge, though I still think their dickheads (except for Charlie, Bill and MT) for messing with their fans.
gnute9 It was brutal in 1975. Only the strongest could survive those insane outdoor general admission concerts in the blazing sun on a football field. I think they were more like 2 hours late that day in Colorado. I'm not sure because at that point my friend had convinced me to leave our prime spot right up against the fence below the stage, and head for the bleachers, where I laid down on the cool cement and had some First Aid attendant hovering over me. Sigh. And yet, I kinda miss those days. Tickets were affordable, everyone had a chance to get up to the stage (bruised and battered). But it definitely wasn't for the weak.
@@j7286 i saw em in Jax Florida in the Gator Bowl in AUGUST of 75, and they were GREAT.....and they werent THAT tardy either.....they came on while it was still daylight, and they really should have waited......once it got darker, it was SO much cooler....i was right down front, and it was brutal, all day...6 other bands opened up for them....it was a great day.....my second concert. Elvis was my first....not too shabby....
Seems like back in the day no matter how long you waited for the Stones to take the stage it was worth it. I wish I had experienced them back in their earlier years (60s-70s). God it must have been great.
Your generation isn't awful; it's just grown up with shit shovelled into its ears. I consider the landfill that is the modern music industry almost a blessing in disguise -- it's driving more and more kids in the direction of the true immortals, and giving birth to future generations of fans. Keep it going, you're a growing force! Pass that shit on.
I've never seen Keith more clear-eyed and sober than he is in this interview. I mean, I'm sure he was high on something, it's all relative, but still......LOL
@@Fuq2 He cleaned himself up a while ago of both hard drugs and drink. I'm not sure if he still smokes cigs but think he just has the occasional joint now. I gave up cigarettes three month ago after 53 years. Did it the hard way too by going "cold turkey" but i've got a long way to go really before i can bang my drum!
here it is 2022...46 years after this was filmed...only one of them has passed (charlie),,,, the rest are still going...sex, drugs and rock and roll for a long life!!!!
Also if ya dig and enjoyed this backstage with the Rolling Stones 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on RU-vid. 😀
