I remember being very averse to tomatoes as a young child. I remember the day my life changed when I started eating tomatoes. I almost can't eat a sandwich if it lacks a slice of tomato.
I'm approaching my 30's and I still can't stand tomato. I know I'm missing out, but something just hasn't clicked in my mouth yet. I've gotten used to other veggies, but I don't know why tomatoes don't work for me AT ALL. Any tips?
Every time you feature watercress I am reminded of my fave dish at Le Cheval in Oakland. They used to have cubed beef (sauteed beef seasoned with pepper, salt, and other stuff) on a bed of watercress - I should look up a recipe. I bet it would make a great sammich.
I have this crazy memory from my early childhood, in the early 80s, there was a show on Nickelodeon I think... it might have been Today's Special or something adjacent, but one of the puppet characters and a human were talking about watercress sandwiches. I had no idea what watercress was until much later. I wonder why a goofy kids show was talking about watercress sandwiches, which I think now of as kind of a fancy tea sandwich kind of thing for old ladies. I also wonder how this is in any way apropos of this video, but there ya go.
I like using the heels of the loaf, too, except I always turn mine inside-out - like, if it's a grilled cheese, the outer crust is turned inside so it looks and feels like normal bread on the outside.
just found this channel a few days ago when looking for a recipe for a raddish sandwich. the bacon and watercress sandwich looks really good! never had watercress but i just might if it's anything like my preferred sandwich green (arugula)

Loved the Joker reference. It may be my imagination, but it seems like you get a lot of butt ends to your sandwiches. Are you using up all the middle slices in your other channels? ( I think someone else had a similar observation.)
