as an Olimar main I can explain the crown, the Pikmin when enter in contact with an item that you can pickup they will just bring it to Olimar for him to use it, but you have to grab it manually, so until you do it, the Pikmin will simply carry the item with them the whole time. It really is pretty funny in a way.

I really like this video.
