Zane , great observations and explanations of Johns bros. I kinda think the way the other teams played Johns Bros, was majority hitting to Ben and then the quick element of surprise to Collin. Change up how the Johns bro do there sequencing and patterns as well as what Zane said, Working on what he needs to do with the new upcoming speedy players.
That's a good observation, and I think the problem is that Collin needs to take up more space on the court. The best mens teams are playing more 50/50 now, with both players able to slide and cover the middle while their partner is pushed wide. The Johnses aren't really doing that. They mostly stay in their 60/40 boxes, so Ben is still responsible for covering balls in the middle even right after he's hit a dink out wide to the left. I know Ben likes to take most of the court, but Collin needs some way to involve himself in the point when the ball isn't hit to his side, otherwise Ben is just playing one on two.
Thanks guys. I saw Caitlin Clark play also. So, would getting CC involved in APP help promote the sport in college play? Michelle Esquivel has a history of horrific calls, especially in close games. If you look at the video, she didn't even see the ball bounce on both calls. IMO, she will cheat to win. I agree with Travis, the vocal players knew it was in. But winning is everything. Pathetic. Hire line judges that aren't half dead. And EVERYONE, stop giving, "the benefit of the drought", to players that constantly cheat. IMO, it is so obvious that Esquivel purposely calls that ball out to try to win. Come-on. All you are doing is promoting cheating.
In a different podcast with the head of USAP they were talking about how players were cooling their paddles so they wouldn’t fail testing and technically it’s legal since it’s not explicitly written that you cannot change the temp of your paddle.
Please Zane let someone know we want more options for NJ 5s pickleball apparel. Newly initiated pickleball die-hards in Madison, WI like myself have a whole lot of support for you and moreover the "mascot" lol. It's great! Just wish our options weren't so limited. re Zane's rant, I do hope that CJ adapts to the pace of the game or the trend of men's doubles (also kind of mixed). I was a bit surprised that there were no trades on the Carolina team during that waiver period although I like all of the players on that team individually. re Zane's value on MLP teams, I cannot speak to what happens behind the scenes but think that does count for a lot. but I remember distinctly when I watched him play singles during a pretty brutal match, no matter how long the point dragged out or no matter how the point differential went, he did not give up. so I think that sort of experience and tenacity counts for a lot, in particular during the dreambreakers (I was not paid to write that, hahaha)

How can MLP NOT HIRE Close Call Replay ? Player line calls are a joke and makes the game look like a joke. Are the owners not able to afford it ? It doesn't really matter if the call is really bad like what happened at this tournament or really close as has happened many times; it needs to be done. Let's grow up and start acting like a real pro sport. I want to watch the game not a bunch of bitchy people acting like children.
Because they’d rather have Colin Erne 1/10 than purposely put the ball near Ben. Colin’s job is to basically to Erne anything he can and know Ben will keep them in the point no matter where else the ball lands.
Ernie's while do provide some offense only happen a couple times a game. Collin doesn't attack much off the bounce or even out of the air. He also resets most balls and doesn't counter as much.
As far as the line judges responsibility when it comes to the bad line call event, the line judges were being used as "passive" line judges. Which means they would only be consulted by the lead referee but the line calling responsibilities still lie with the players. I can't confirm, but the "passive" line judge was most likely a replacement for the video challenge that wasn't available due to the venue change requirements. Suggest reviewing the USAPA referee handbook, page 64, Section 8.C.2 In the end, player made the "out", lead referee and line judge team could not overrule, by rule, the ball is in.
It depends on what you want to see. My understanding the new video challenge system utilized at MLP Grand Rapids was fantastic. I attended the event and the challenges I was present for were quickly confirmed. When using line judges, the game is fast and the court is small. It is difficult to be a line judge in my experience, so I feel at the moment it would be a combination of the following 1. line judges and video challenges to confirm when line judges can't confirm IN or OUT and if an appeal is requested by a team/player, then the video challenge is utilized. 2. passive line judges, players call lines, line judges consulted by lead referee, then video challenge if referees or line judges can't confirm. 3. video line calling for all lines, same as tennis ($$$$)
Don't know about that call, it was a hook so egregious you'd have to think they all knew it. The fact Michele made the call when she could not possibly have seen it, makes her a cheat... the bench not having the ethics to correct it (their responsibility or not) make them all complicit cheats. A real shame......then the chunky monkey (Jimmy), tries to turn the narrative to make it seem like Hunter and Travis were in the wrong for calling them out..... really weak move...... change name to BOTC
Totally agree on all. And Esquival has done this before at MLP in Mesa AZ a few years ago. Agree, her team who called that in was all dishonest. On the second call, I don't think Hewett could take it and called it in.
@chrispaulsen5746 because it has been talked about on like 3 other pods and in the discords. Jessie had like 12 paddles fail, and Collin was whining about them not wanting to give his paddles back.
@@chadlecates2742 I heard about Collin whining and that engages fail a lot, but IMO that doesn't lead me all the way to saying it was them. Everyone was having a ton of paddles fail.
