First posted in April 2011, this is re-edited version of the review that removes 1m 6s from the running time, mostly from tightening up the editing and cutting down the film clips. My Adam Sandler reviews are very popular, so I figured I'd put this one out while it's still summer, and to tide you over in a little lull in content. Enjoy!
The song is "Ready to Roll" by Jet Black Stare, but it's a cover version because I don't own the rights to that song (I used the original as the theme for many years). The newest episodes use a new theme made by Skitch.
So fun fact I learned while I was browsing the TV tropes page for this film. Apparently, this film actually started developing in the 90s as a reunion/vehicle for the "Bad Boys of SNL"(Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Chris Farley) however after Chris Farley's tragic passing away the film was shelved until Sandler decided to revive it with Kevin James taking Farley's place.
This is a great episode! I loved a lot of the lines like: "Here's a tip for you Lenny: Learn responsibility!" "I guess the blubber absorbed the blow." "Or maybe, I don't know, apply some constraint and give the boy a bottle of milk!" "I love how this movie preaches going outside and having fun when we're sat inside watching their shitty film wishing we were having fun." "See? I can copy and paste my own script too."
Maybe you paid for this, but I didn't pay for anything related to Adam Sandler. The only thing he gets from me is my time spent watching movie reviews like Bad Movie Beatdown, which just reinforces my drive to stay away from Adam Sandler movies.
From what I've heard about Sandler and these movies, you're pretty close. If the rumors are true he only makes these movies so they can get together, travel somewhere, and goof around.
Crap movies like this wouldn't exist if not for Sony (and others) throwing a bunch of money at him. And audiences shelling out their hard-earned money to see this crap.
I've heard that Adam Sandler is actually a pretty nice guy in real life. This has caused me to ask myself over and over "Well, if he's so nice, then what's with all the ego-stroking in his movies?!" And I think I've finally come up with an answer - Sandler probably has realized that he is incapable of becoming successful and respected in the eyes of the moviegoing public due to his garbage movies and so the kind of people he portrays in Grown Ups, Jack and Jill, Just Go With It and several other movies are his means of escape from the reality he refuses to confront. Yo, Adam, here's an idea: if you want us to respect you, why don't you get your fucking shit together and start making good movies?! This isn't rocket science!
It's not like he hasn't. Most of his good movie which were more dramatic weren't succesful his bad movies were succesful. His friends in his movie are also talented but refuse to do anyhtign other than Sandle movies. Despite everything wrong with Rob Schneider surprisingly the dude can actually act, and dramatically to he did a movie called The One which was surprisingly good and had nothing to do with Sandler and was not well known. Kevin James is also funny, his stand up, king of queens, and hitch were all good and it has nothing to do with anything but his wife is hot.
Well if Bill Cosby played a decent guy but was a scumbag in real life no reason Sandler can't be the opposite. You know Laurel and Hardy were the opposite in real life to their on screen persona.
Maybe he takes out his frustrations and social aggression by making shitty films with his friends and make the paying audience suffer as a result of their mockery of the characters he plays. Adam Sandler is either an evil genius or an embittered man getting on in life having the financial means to get his passive aggressive revenge on the public that scorned him. Either way nobody would have a problem if he starred in more films of actual good quality.

This was the first movie I saw in theaters that I genuinely hated. Before this I pretty much did no critical thinking when it came to watching movies. I suppose I can thank this movie for making me for as critical as I am today but this movie still white ass balls.
I've never been a fan of Sandler before but he's never been this bad. Even his earlier work had some pretty funny moments and I didn't mind him on SNL. Now, he's let his enormous ego get in the way.
I guess Adam Sandler thought that primitive jokes is what sells for a good comedy movie like Michael Bay thought explosions is what sells for a good action movie...
The stay-at-home dad jokes aren't just annoying but a bit depressing. I have a friend who's said he'd like to be a stay-at-home dad if he has kids, not only because the work he wants to do can be done from home but also to provide the support and attention he missed growing up. And if anyone reading this is questioning his masculinity, he both looks like he could kick your ass, and can kick your ass.
My fiance is a huge, teddy bear of a man, and his dream is to be a stay-at-home dad. I don't know if he'll be able to when we have kids, but he'd be great at it.
Gracekim1 yeah,exactly...what freaking hormonal birth control was she on and why hasn't she had fired, left and/or switched their OB/GYN and/or pharmacist yet..? But yet again...there is a mention of a woman breastfeeding her child when her kid was a bit older in the adaption of Room, but that was meant to be seen as more of an emotional/dramatic scene between Jack and his mother than of what this film portrays horribly...if you know what I mean there,eh..??
Y'know, Adam Sandler might just be the most insecure person in Hollywood. Almost all of his characters are just "Mary Sue" versions of himself. The only flaw his characters seem to have is that they're arrogant, egocentric arses. The only character I've seen him play whom I actually like and enjoy is Robbie Hart from _The Wedding Singer_ (an uncharacteristically charming movie).
HEY! My Uncle loves this movie 😾, show some respect!....He drops the N Word because he believes it's Free Speech, he cat calls at random women on the street, he believes homosexuality is a choice, and he LOVES Adam Sandler films! He.........oh my God, my Uncle is a cliche!!!!!! WHYYYYYY!!!!! (Yes, I really do have a Cliche Racist Uncle.... Pray for me)
You know Sandler helped write it when everything he does is great while every friend of his is a loser in some way. All of them have some problems but not Sandler he is great at everything. I love how he lets the Colin Quinn character win but he has to announce it just in case the audience thinks there is anyway possible he could have lost. It’s like he said just tell jokes during the whole movie and we will find a way to leave them in. Who brings their maid, mother in law dog daughters who you have seen in years to a weekend house in New Hampshire. Also how did they get basketball uniformed and how did the wives her cheerleader outfits
Everyone at my work talks about how much they love this movie and I never ever saw why. Don't get me wrong, people can have opinions on whatever they want but I truly feel like people watch this and waste their brain matter.
...and yet somehow this ended up getting a sequel. :/

That opens with a painfully CGI deer literally pissing on Sandler, and then running into the bathroom where it pissed on one of the kids using it, and then after running out of the house, gets tranqed or something. The moment I saw that, I considered reaching for the nearest item to strangle myself with. Thankfully, there wasn't, so I resorted to going outside and getting high instead.
My favorite part about your reviews is that your wittiness makes bad movies more watchable. I would never watch most of theses movies in real life, but knowing the video is cutting back to you with something hilarious and smart makes it all worthwhile.
Hayek is exactly one week older than Sandler. I think that that’s the only way they’re a good match in this movie: they’re the same age. It’s rather wholesome, too, one of the few wholesome things here.
Adam Sandler has more misses than hits on his resume and he is reportedly one of the nicer people in Hollywood. Almost all his projects with Crew are lame; Kevin James, Rock , Rob all had careers but ...days gone by. What is frustrating about this movie is a common problem with Adam Sandler movies- the comedy isn't funny .
Kimi FW Ever noticed how only male actors/characters get criticized based on looks. I am 200% sure he didn't say Paul Blart's daughter scored "above her league" with David Henrie in the sequel. Yet, every time a male is the less classically looking one, it's being brought to attention by reviewers. Double standards?
Admittedly, I actually like some of Adam Sandler's films. Not many, but a few. As much as I don't like low brow humor, Sandler at least tries to make the jokes as big as he can. Unlike most kids shows which do the same thing over and over with no alteration.
This review is about as old now as things from 1997/1998 were back when it was released. Sometimes I think this whole _being an adult thing_ is a trap.
The best movie Adam Sandler ever did was Reign Over Me. His character is a great deconstruction of the characters he usually plays in these Crappy Madison productions.
If you found this movie lame and stupid, the sequel is worst! There's a deer pissing on Adam at the begining, a Rap-ballet show where the policemans are flirting with the teacher, a dick battle against Jacob from Twilight and the adults. The plot is all over the place, none of the jokes are funny, the music is horrible, the characters are more dumb than before. It's a mess and i already saw it four times... i regret my decision! I rather re-watch the first. At least, the characters are developped and realise how much their families are important. It's not perfect but there's some efforts to make an interresting and fun film :)
It seems as if they filmed scenes with no set dialog and just edited it later to try to make a movie out of it. Little vinyettes that somehow try to blend together.
I'll be honest, the movie isn't that bad. (Not that good, either.) But when I saw this movie at age 14, even then, the fact that there was no conflict in this movie irritated me.
Anytime dudebros try to tell me women's movies and jokes aren't funny, instead of showing them the dozens of hilarious and talent female comedians I'll just show them this because, frankly, it kind of embodies the stereotypical humor that tends to sell with a lot of American men (not all though): fart jokes, fat jokes, boob jokes, racist jokes, treating women like sex toys, lazy slapstick, one dimensional characters, and the uninteresting, average-looking, selfish male leads all somehow get wives smarter and/or more attractive than them because... movie. Basically, cliche jokes that take no effort to tell or write at other people's expense (as someone noted, the physical jokes are rarely at Lenny's expense) that we've seen a hundred times and is neither relatable nor so crazy that's what makes it humorous (like Michael Scott).
Sandler was OK in mid 90s at movies such as Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore, it's like whatever....could be worse. But then it turns out he kept doing same formula for three damn decades! Someone falls, someone attempts a funny voice, rinse and repeat. Incredibly predictable jokes and the movie plot that you don't have to follow at all (same Sandler-like jokes that he repeats multiple times and then a cheap moral of the story where Sandler learns how to be a better person lmao)....and that's how Sandler is filthy rich, cause an average audience loves predictable cheap shit. All it's missing is the sitcom laughter applause effect to tell you when exactly you must laugh.
Firstly, yes this film is shit and many other Happy Madison films are. I really used to love Adam Sandler, so just avoid his films now unless it's a YT review of Jack & Jill for example. David Spade is a funny guy though, not in this other and other films granted and oddly enough, *cough* gold diggers, Spade is very successful in real life with getting "hot chicks" and I feel Sandler and Rock like to joke with him about it, so that is why he is a ladies man here.
This movie annoys the hell out of me because a lot of dudes at my work love this kind of shlock by Sandler and Happy Madison. I made a review on my channel just to piss them off lol one of the few instances where i let my personal life interfere with my work
You missed one line from the film: Eric (I think that's his name) (referring to a rope swing) You know what this is? Girl: A rope to hang ourselves with? I think that was her retort to being in this horrendous movie. Also, a bit too harsh on the film there, even if it is a horrendous one. I think the title "Grown Ups" was a sarcastic title.
Ruining comedy 101: 9:07 A mildly amusing line. 9:09 Starting to abuse the joke. 9:12 Almost there... 9:13-9:14 Congratulations! You have now ruined a perfectly good joke!
Adam Sandler's movies give that weird sense of acomplishment when you see all those characters and sigh to yourself: "I may be a pos, but at least I'm not this bad"
So Adam Sandler is such an amazing egotist that even when his character loses, it's only because he wanted to lose. He can't even allow his character to lose fair and square. God fucking hell!
I like this movie it dumb it’s funny it might be bad as a movie itself but compared to grownups 2 to this movie this movie is a masterpiece anyways though its my guilty pleasure
