This video made me weep. I have one senior lady bullying me, and spreading lies about me because i am the only new one. I dont understand why nobody can see through her fake front or her toxic ways.

If management is not doing anything to fix the issue, I would start looking for another job. It's not worth staying at a place like that.

I also work on the same unit with your wife Monica, and I too can say there are some bad nurses. The good nurses see it, and they have let management know. I, too, wouldn't like my family to be taken care of by them. There will always be a bad apple in the batch of good apples in all workplaces, just not in the healthcare settings.

This is why you all blessed so much, you are good people. I agree with you a 100% as a former hospital unit secretary.

Yes you cant generalize. But i understand that there are horrible nurses out there. I work with few of them. They have strong personality because they are senior and the option you have is sometimes you have to play dumb. Because once you outsmarted them, you will be bullied and treat you horribly.

I think it's a great suggestion that leaders get rid of the toxic people. But there's two problems with that: First, guess who become the people in power that could possibly get rid of the toxic assholes? Yep. 9 times out of 10, it's not the good people. Because the good people aren't playing the game as ruthlessly. Good people don't often want to be in charge of others. Being in charge of others is a different mentality. And second, the leaders don't have the authority to get rid of toxic because toxic isn't a serious enough problem to go firing people for, costing the unit more money to replace them. Or it could be viewed as a witch hunt that opens them up to lawsuits. Unless you have an entire leadership team and CNO who are on the ground and have their pulse on what's going on in units, it's not going to happen. These nurse leaders are tired and they'd rather get rid of the one complaining about being bullied, then the bully themselves. I've seen it in my own unit. As God as my witness. Trainee got bullied, there was picture evidence, and witnesses, and the leadership gave the trainee the option to leave instead of fixing the problem. That little nugget stays in my mind and in my heart, and I'll remind them of such when I eventually leave.

Nurses should have assistants that legit helping them and actually doing their job. Nurses at kaiser are burnt out because majority of nurses are doing both PCT and nurses job, when someone is overwhelmed and overworked, it tends to make someone cranky, stressed, and unhappy. And yes, they older nurses that sees new grads, tends to put them down instead of showing them the ropes. Can’t understand with older Tita’s attitude, they should be happy to pass the baton, their knowledge, and their skills to the new nurses. All hospitals should hire great CNA’s not PCT’s, great teamwork in every unit should be the norm

It's hard 2 not hire bad nurses. The same way they know the ins & outs of their handbooks, they know how 2 interview. They give their behinds 2 kiss once they get n & know the legalities. Sometimes poor leadership allows these nurses 2 float by.

I wonder if there is some sort of evidence based personality test that should be incorporated in the hiring process and should be conducted by a psych professional (or anyone with good judge of character) lol This will prob help eliminate those toxic ones LOL

Why these nurses can’t be fired. Unions make it Almoys impossible to fire anyone bad
@21Pogon
@21Pogon 2 месяца назад
It’s a double edged sword. Some days it’s good to know that even if you are a good one that you are hard to fire for something stupid. So it gives you job security.

Hi Jason and Monica ! I have a question for you.. Do you have any idea ...what is the least worked up, least toxic branch of Nursing in the USA ? Hospice Care, Homecare Nursing or Community Health Care...What are their Differences ? Is Hospital experience worse or better.. I have HomeCare experience in United Arab Emirates. And I am starting to apply for a job in the US.

It's not always True,a nurse was once labeled in emergency dept by a pt who had a flu because he couldn't wait for her to attend to a almost dying patient, just because that individual had local political influence.

I just sham spam 'em to let it interanlly errod them away: "hey, your call light is on. Oh, that's a nice blood pressure." I ask them specifics about a patient they had yesterday that I know they should but don't know... Just because admin sucks, it dosnt mean that our culture accepts that. They can go hide on some night shift at Shady Arces.

I would like to see what you can come up with about nurses working for the VA. Is California the best state for nurses working there and pay? Benefits..etc

Hello, looking for general advice for someone looking to be a nurse. I plan to graduate nursing school in roughly 3 years and want to move in California for a couple years as to get experience before APRN school. For that i need to work in the ICU, question is what to do or is it possible to get hired as an ICU nurse off the bat and begin the experience, or how do i increase my chances for that. Thank you!

Be knowledgeable. Know how to care for an ICP? How about counterpulsation device? How many vasoactive drips can you identify? What would you do when patient extubated self?

Thank you so much to the both of you for posting this. I know that this is a huge problem, and I’ve experienced it myself and both the hospitals that I’ve worked at. Fortunately, though, these people are far and few between. But I know they can be more prevalent and other areas. I work at a great hospital in Los Angeles and definitely desire to head to Sacramento Kaiser, but even in this great hospital, there is still these people. Only thing stopping me from going to Kaiser now is the ability to take paternity leave for my baby. That will be born soon. I don’t think Kaiser will give the 8-16 weeks off if I’m less than a year I think. Thank you both.

I would contact HR if I were you, because there is a possibility you may qualify for paternity leave if you move to a different Kaiser facility.

How do you expect them to start an IV when they didnt learn in school? Most school teaches you how to prime an IV .

I actually asked every semester for them to make IV skills part of the lab portion and was still told no. I was told by the director of my program to "learn it on the job in fact."
@21Pogon
@21Pogon 2 месяца назад
I am studying right now, starting 3rd year and IVs is the only thing I worry about most with finding the vein and not poking a person up to hell and beyond. I know that I will probably learn most on the job so a little patience goes a long way for someone experienced to show me, after all you might end up working with me for decades so why not start off on a good foot.

Is this man serious about the police analogy? Corrupt cops are much MORE common than just “a few bad cops”… secondly, there are WAY too many news stories of corrupt nurses… it’s not a few, it’s a LOT
