Dave investigates the role baffles play on motorcycles thanks to the help of our shop bike, a 2023 Road Glide Limited named GoldenRod, and several baffles. JD's Cycle Works is located at 6146 Sullivan Trail, Nazareth PA, 18064
HOLY SMOKES! I have a 475C in my 107 with Bassani 2x(1)x2 Header and CFR Slipons and my TQ curve looked exactly like that. Now I see why my Tuner said I needed another exhaust or baffles. YIKES
I spoke with Dave last year and explained what I wanted. I ride a street glide with the Rockford system. He recommended the "quiet" baffle. These baffles sound great and are by no means quiet. It’s a perfect sound. If anyone is wondering if they are to quiet, the answer is no. It won’t completely drown out the Rockford system and has plenty of bark! Dave did a cam and a couple other things on my bike. The results were absolutely amazing. Still can’t get the smile off my face. Thanks again Dave This is the place to bring your bike!
WOW ! I always understood that baffles were important however, never realized how much it can change and alter the results. That was pretty cool the way you demonstrated that for us. Awesome Dave I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Dave is doing my cam in April. He convinced me to change my Tab zombie baffles to the louvered baffles. I just changed em over and glad he did a video to show the reasons why he recommended I make the change. I allready noticed I got some torque back from when I did the head pipe and tune. The tab louvered baffled are quieter at idle but still rip pretty good under acceleration. Cant wait for him to work his magic in April
Great video Dave. Ill always use louvered baffles. I biught the tab mufflers with the zombie baffles in them. My road king suffered crazy low end loss with them. The zombie bafflesnare completely smooth woth only the slightest tapering towrds the back of the muffler. That was wasted money ill never get back. They do have louvered baffles but the pipes cost me 750$ woth the zombies and i wasnt spending anymore on baffles. Went back to my bassani rr3 stainless pipe.
I have a m8 127. I had 2 1/4 baffles. Runs strong but so quiet. Decated head pipe. I just for fun had some baffles and changed the core to 2" straight pipe core. And it actually made it not just a tad bit louder but more crisp. Torque is a tad bit more also from seat of the pants feel. Wot it's almost loud, loud. I'm nervous to say, hey this is ok. But let's see some work done to baffles that shrink a tad and have no holes lol. My vrod had a destroyer exhaust with a fake cone as a baffle. This is what let to the insane idea I did.
Love the content. Subscribed👍🏻 what’s your thoughts on using a 2-1-2 head pipe combined with kw mufflers with either baffle? I hear people like to use a different head pipe
Hey Dave. How much torque/HP do you lose from using the short reducer as opposed to using the Louvered baffle ? I really love the sound and old school " Chop " the reducer gives to my 117 Road Glide St but wonder if it is worth the trade off from the quieter louvered baffles.
There are only a few shops I have seen that explain baffles like this. To bad none of those shops are no where near where I live in northern Virginia. I really want to get my sportster a professional dyno tune and not a "professional" dyno tune.
I have seen for the m8 motor having baffles works best. I have the same system on my twin cam 103 and Khrome Werks told me don’t run a baffle for the 103. What’s your thoughts on this? Thanks love all the videos!
Have you compared cat vs no cat? I've been curious about this recently. I have s&s sidewinder 2 into 1 with a short baffle and love the sound. I was wondering if I should leave the cat or remove it. I live in california so reduced heat would be a plus.
I’m having the Fueling 465, and these pipes put on as we speak. I didn’t even think to order different baffles. Will I need to retune if I add the quiet baffles later? I have the Thundermax tuner so maybe it can auto tune the change?
Thanks Dave, very informative. Was the modification to the spoon baffle raising the spoon up 1"? You are really knocking it out of the park with your videos.
Excellent and informative video proving the theory that proper back pressure is key to getting maximum hp and torque out of the M8. I have the 2 - 1 - 2 exhaust on my RG. I was curious why you chose the 2 - 2 since many say that the 2 - 1 is better for performance. Is there any proof that the 2 - 1 would get better hp and torque numbers over the 2 - 2, or the 2 - 1 - 2?
I hope Dave chimes in but it seems like most 2-2 will hurt power but the khrome werks 2-2 with stepped headers and baffles does just as good or better than most 2-1 I’ve seen. This was crucial for me because I have stretched bags and like the dual look. A good 2-1-2 can run good as well but again it seems like some manufacturers have it a bit more figured out than others. This is were guys like Dave, that have experimented with different setups, come in.
The 2-1 will come on harder, to see a comparison please take a look at the S&S 475 video. The reason why I chose the 2-2 with the louvered baffle for this test is because the majority of my customers do not want to run the 2-1. The 2-2 system offers 2 functioning mufflers with a stereo sound and have different baffle choices and have a mellower tone than most 2-1.
Hey Dave... I have a 131 build with Woods 22XE CAM and Rhinehart slimline duals. I am thinking of switching cams to Fueling 508 or 521. Which do you think I should select for my build or do you suggest changing something to get more low end and horsepower?
Hi Dave are the S&S grand national mufflers good with a fuel moto head pipe jackpot 2/1/2. With a 22XE cam with the mufflers I listed or do you recommend different
