Today I am testing baked potatoes, foil or no foil. I usually wrap my potatoes in foil but have tried them without foil. Let's see if there is a difference.
I get a lot of people asking where they can get certain things that I use in my videos, so I created a Tom's Test Kitchen store on Amazon. You will find everything I could think of that I've used in one way or another in previous videos. Please take a look around, I hope you find what you're looking for, if not just ask. Thanks! www.amazon.com...

I do mine smothered in bacon grease , salt and peppered and wrapped for the first 40 minutes. I then cut the foil open and finish it that way

We were raised on delicious baked potato and our momma told us the skin is very healthy to eat, so all 5 kids listen to our Polish momma! We loved it.

He was confusing me calling both potatoes unfoiled 😂

Very interesting! It seems like the foiled potato is actually a steamed potato. Steamed potatoes are good. But, a properly baked potato (no foil) has a delicious, tasty skin and it’s flesh is light and fluffy. I am always disappointed in foil wrapped restaurant potatoes.

I use that Recipe all the time. Got it from the test kitchen on RU-vid. Yours looked pretty good too!

I'm only interested in eating the skin, so "no foil" baked potato for me.😘🥔

Absolutely no foil.... Skin is crispy and tastier. It’s a greata potata

Poke your potatoes with about six holes use a brine of salt and water put in the oven on 450° until the internal temperature is 205 perfect baked potato with a delicious crispy skin

3:48 Because the uncovered potato was taken out 10 minutes earlier, obviously.

Even when I use foil I season the skin and put some kind of biter or oil on it. And salt and pepper also need to stab them with a fork a few times. But thanks for the comparison this really isn’t something I’ve thought about. I’ve cooked it both ways usually do un-foiled if I’m out of foil or just don’t feel like taking the extra step 😂. But it’s good to know that the un-foiled cooks faster and the skin is different 🤔 might stop using foil.

No holes poked in them ? At least that's what I do with sweet potatoes

For the microwave I do poke holes

🤔 I poke wholes every time no matter how I’m cooking them. My grandma taught me that you poke holes to release the moisture in the potato

@@jazminearceneaux7452 for me the skin tastes so crispy delicious in its own way when it is cooked without foil around it and the skin on a foiled potato doesn't seem to have any character.

I heard that you’re not supposed to use foil in a toaster oven.

It's not a toaster oven. It's a high end countertop convection oven. Yes, it can make toast too.
