For the Everburn blade, the easy way to get it is to go into spellbook make shadowheart prepare "Command", and then make the demon drop the weapon.

And the other spell can go to Blessing the mind flayer and Laezel - grab the purple explosives around that room and put them on the pair, blast it as you're running away (pretty much the only way i can consistently kill them both on Tact difficulty, since i miss most attacks lmao)

Are they easy to get? In a way yes, but the when and how they are is... Problematic. I've had points where I'd use inspiration down to 1 or 0 and then go long stretches without new inspiration. Only to then get 4-5++ inspiration gains without any skill checks in between. The game almost incentivizes you to pocket some of the inspirations that you can trigger yourself. I can't even imagine how much inspiration I've lost to overflow because I'd just gain some in rapid succession only to then go stretches without gaining any. That incentivizes gamey behaviour which in my opinion is poor design.

@@danjal87nl yeah I’ve noticed that a lot as well. Lots of places where a single choice gives 3-4 points and then shortly after get a bunch more without a decent chance to use them. Don't forget: you can ALSO respec your companions! you DO NOT have to keep them in their default classes! So you can change them to a class you want on your roster and take the companion you like for their story/personality/romance. I play with Gale/Astarion/Shadowheart as Sorcerer/Fighter-Range-Rogue/Paladin-Warlock builds, respectively!

If you are a race that doesn’t have darkvision (if you played human, Halfling, etc) you are rolling with disadvantage in every single cave and dungeon if there are no candles or torches lit with in range of you and/or your target. You can cast the light cantrip on your weapon or helmet while it is placed on the ground and then equip them and have a hands free torch situation before getting into battle you aren’t sneaking into. Putting light on a bottle or other trash item and throwing it into the center of where you want your fight to be does not act like an illusion spell, and can be done without activating combat. Sometimes throwing the object breaks and the light spell spreads over a further area and stays active until you recast or reload the area. Another cantrip tip: All non-automatic casing of True Strike is a waste of an action. The weapons that apply true strike in a miss are great, but the actual spell is literally a waste of a cantrip option and a waste of your turn and I was so surprised they didn’t fix the mechanics of it. It is also broken and useless in tabletop DnD. True strike essentially gives you two attack action rolls on one turn, but you must use an action to activate it. If you just attack twice, you are using the same number of dice rolls, but can land two hits, whereas if you roll two successful hits with your advantage granted by true strike, you only land one. Unless you are trying to get the final hit on something that is applying disadvantage to you (and you are using True Strike to make you roll flat instead of disadvantage), there is no reason to ever cast True Strike because it does not deliver anything you do not already get from playing turns as normal without it. To sum myself up here (TLDR) : The light cantrip is extremely useful if any of your characters don’t have darkvision. True strike is a bad spell. You are literally better off taking any other cantrip for that resource slot and never touching it unless it is an auto-effect on a weapon.
@jtfike
@jtfike Год назад
You can just cast light on a character.
@IlaMedlin
@IlaMedlin Год назад
@@jtfike that is neat! I didn’t realize you could put light on a person because the spell says “object,” and not “ally.” That will save me time when I am not in combat for sure! But, to be honest, I still think throwing a bottle to extend the radius of light into a heap of enemies before you aggro them so you can get still get solid ranged attack with a non darkvision Tav to start combat is better than putting light on a melee character that is not guaranteed to be next to your targets for the whole 10 rounds.

Early game advice. If you really want to start with some rare items and several hundred gold you can kill the Cambions pretty easily by moving all four of the purple tanks (take the one by Shadowhearts holding tank) and put them around the top of the stairs in the final boss room. Focus fire on the Cambion with the burning blade (use Shadowheart to cast command, to do this go into her spellbook and prepare it) that will get you the blade by ordering it to drop and reduce the Cambion to only throwing 6 dmg per turn. Makes it so much easier to beat down him and the mindflayer. Now if you are also a Cleric with Command let Shadowheart ignite the tanks when the Cambions have dashed into the room right next to them (they normally stop right about the top of the stairs) to so 1/4 or 1/3 of their HP. Use your second cleric to cast command to make both of them drop their weapons. NOW the flamesword Cambion (the named one) will not pick up his sword first turn so you have time to pick it up. But the other two will immediately pick back up their weapons on their turn. Pick them up with another character and they will be stuck with 6 dmg hits. Focus fire with Sacred Flame on one, while Laezel (equipped with the Burning Blade) focuses on the other. You might want to prepare Protection from Good and Evil and cast it on her to make her more tanky. Save Scum all you want to get the demons to lose their saves and take that radiant damage. If you dont use Protection use Guiding Bolt which will do good dmg and lets Laezel hit with advantage next turn. Then loot them and head to the console.

Dont forget to add scrolls to Gale's or your own spellbook. Wizards can consume scrolls any time in camp for a sum of gold and add them to their books. Great stuff! ... in particular, the turn-based mode. I've found that with a party of four, sometimes it's really easy for some folks to get left behind, particularly when jumping, climbing, or navigating doors that close or tiny passages. If you increase your party size with familiars, animal companions, or mods that allow you to have a larger party than four, it's not only easy to do, but practically inevitable. Knowing that you are going to have this issue, it's relatively easy to either turn on turn-based mode, or else ungroup so you can tackle the hurdle one at a time without leaving someone behind and having to go back and retrace their steps to help them catch up to the group.

@pixelmaster9964
@pixelmaster9964 Год назад
Small tip for figuring out fun multi class combos on your own. In general, make sure the classes you’re taking scale with the same stats. Paladin, sorcerer, and warlock all want a good charisma score, so they make a great multiclass. Something like a wizard sorcerer multiclass might not be great, since wizard and sorc pretty much all of the same spells, and wizard needs int while sorc needs charisma.

@@pixelmaster9964 Experimenting with multiclassing can be obnoxious. Sucks to respec a level 12 character for the 3rd time realizing you forgot a specific spell, for the stats wrong or accidentally did the classes in the wrong order and don't have proficiencies for your gear. To change 1 little thing you need to do a lot of data entry over (tip: for prepared casters don't bother until the end - basically the only thing they ask you can fix later)
@KazumiKiguma
@KazumiKiguma Год назад
Few tips to add to this: You can respec ANYONE, not just your character. Their stories treat them as the original class still. Read your tooltips! Mage Armor says that if the target isn't wearing armor, their base armor becomes 13. It does not mention shields. Give Gale a shield. (staves are versatile, you can 1h them). To add to this, some weapons dont have effects, but rather they have bonus abilities, be sure to check them. Use shove. If you're in melee, and have no other bonus action, try shoving. It makes for a great disengage if it works. Use jump. Jump requires a bonus action and 10 ft of movement to use, however the baseline distance you jump is 15 ft. More strength modifier adds to this but even at 8 str, youre moving further than if you just ran.

You can use a certain NPC at camp to respec all your characters or even change their class completely. But you can also pickpocket your money back off of him, and he doesn't care if you fail. So pay your 100 to respec, then pickpocket your refund.

Now I put several bags in my camp storage and then send everything back to camp, then every once in a while I head back to camp and open storage and put stuff into the different containers I have in there, one of them being stuff to sell next time I find a vendor with some cash, you can zip back to camp while standing right next to the vendor, load up, leave camp and be ready to seel a ton.

A really important point to make connected to the ability to change your class is that, as of now, you CANNOT change character appearance after your initial creation, the ONLY caveats Ive personally seen is the Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer subclass effects, IE, special colored scales on a draconic dragonborn sorcerer, and the shapeshifting spells\abilities. But Larian has said they are likely implementing an appearance change option later on, probably at console release.

Here is a tip I learned the hard way... casting haste before initiating a conversation that leads to combat, will mean you get haste during the battle (most of us know this already) BUT, when you cast haste on a party member, that DOES NOT join in on that conversation (you can kinda see this as you start a conversation by looking at the party and looking for the ear symbols) their haste turns WILL tick down, and they do NOT start combat with haste active, effective wasting a spellslot! (unless, you spam through the dialogue, its still normal time bound) Example: (THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ACT 3) When talking to Gortash after disabling the steel watch, you initiate the conversation with your main character and Karlack. I had Shadowheart in my party at the time. Me being the clever gamer I am, I cast haste on my MC and Shadowheart before talking to Gortash. Since Shadowheart wasnt a part of the conversation, her haste would run out... I kept having to figure out why Shadowheart didnt have haste at the start of the fight.....

Tip 27!! ... learn which spells can be cast as rituals! Did you know that Longstrider is a ritual spell? It's not labeled as such, but if you cast it out of combat, it doesn't use up one of your precious spell slots. Have Gale or Wyll prepare the spell, and they can cast it on every single party member at will as long as you're not in combat. This one is particularly nice, as it increases everyone's movement speed by about 25%, and it lasts until you long rest. (Most rituals do.) Likewise, speak with dead/animals can be cast without using up spell slots, and there are many other useful rituals in the game that work the same way ... Disguise Self, Detect Thoughts, Feather Fall, Silence, Find Familiar, Enhanced Leap. And most of them last all day (not enhanced leap!). There might be more, but those are the ones I know about.

I always play RPG's on easy mode the first playthrough. I am a casual player who just plays the game for the story anyway. Yes, I save scum. I have an idea of how I want things to work out when I play an RPG and I shoot for the optimum outcomes for my companions. I also have no problem with internet spoilers and often do my share of research on each companion before attempting to befriend them. I am a completionist and try to get all the quests and items. I played through the nautilus fight scene many times to get that Everburning sword. I take my time with an RPG and am I no hurry to finish one. I also found playing as a cleric gives you an advantage especially at the start of the game. Clerics are a bit OP IMO but that's fine cause I suck at turn based combat.

You wanted to know our builds? Okay... well, first you should know I'm a dilettante. I often have a tough time sticking to just one character and playing it all the way through. Also, I only play single-player, so any build I do is done knowing that I've got certain NPCs with me to "watch my back" and fill in the rest of the party. So, this is what I've got... 1.) My highest-level character, and the one furthest along in the game, is an elf Wizard. Abjuration for the school, because arcane ward is just too damn useful when you have low hit dice and HP. He's got the Urchin background, and is proficient in sleight of hand, perception and stealth so I don't need a rogue to pick locks. He uses Lae'zel and Karlach for muscle and has Shadowheart re-spec'd to Life domain cleric for extra healing (because trickery domain is terrible in BG3). His charisma is only 10, but with the Friends cantrip, he's still the party face and succeeds at most NPC skill checks with no problem. All my other builds use some mods, so I have some subclasses and spells that are not canon, and many have larger parties (though I never have more than 6-person parties because that's unwieldy). Also, you might notice that most of my races are Elf, because getting a free cantrip and free Perception proficiency are two of the best perks in the game. 2.) Elf Ranger, hunter - amazing archer and focuses on ranged attacks. She has high Dex and Wisdom so she's also my lockpicker and trap finder, as well as tracker, stealthy scout, and animal whisperer. 3.) Elf Bard, college of lore ... serious skill monkey! With jack of all trades, free racial Perception prof, and three extra skills for college of Lore, he is the party face and the lockpicker/stealth/trap finder. Currently pursuing love interest with Karlach, just got first kiss. 4.) Elf Rogue, just started this one two days ago, lots of fun so far! Lots of skill proficiencies and picked up Friends cantrip for party face-role. Chose Swashbuckler subclass (obvious mod), so darting in and out of combat with rapier and sneaks most attacks successfully. Travels with larger party (another mod) ... Karlach and Lae'zel for muscle, Gale for wizard-ness, respec'd Shadowheart as Life cleric for heals n' buffs, and re-spec'd Astarion as bard for buffs (since I'm rogue, I don't need two - and bard works well for Astarion's cocky and condescending bullsh**). Currently working on pursuing Shadowheart romance, since I haven't done that yet, and want to see how to get that going. I have two other builds i started a few weeks ago, but they're both still low level - a tiefling warlock and a human paladin. All my builds are based on one of my actual D&D characters (since I've been playing tabletops for the past 4 decades), so I choose to roleplay all of them based on those characters, and make choices as those characters would, regardless of possible game outcome. I'm having so much fun with this game so far!

Playing a Human Bard I've had fights that I have had to restart more times than I'd like to admit 😅 I'm in act 3 as we speak...couple of tips... 1. Don't automatically assume there is a bug on a quest if you don't get given the answers, check the room, read all the books friggin talk to EVERYONE...chances are you missed something not that you have a defective game...2. Talk to every dead thing you can...mainly bosses there is a lot of lore to learnt. 3. Save scum who cares what Keyboard Karl says on reddit, are they over your shoulder watching you play? Hell no! Not sure you're gonna make that roll, and you're down to your last thieves toolkit? Hit F5 before you attempt if you pass GREAT if you don't? Smash that F8 button (F5 quick save F8 Quick Load) 4. don't want a dickish rogue in the party? Invest in the spell Knock. 5. Going mostly Melee? Invest in the SENTINEL feat. 6. Look at every piece of armor you can grab. gloves, capes, helms, and shoes can all add to your armor class (as long as it says it in the text/description of the piece) weird one 7. Don't like the blood and dirt on your toon? Water create/destroy or conjure can get rid of it. 8. If you play a bard and want to make some money play your instrument it won't be THOUSANDS but you can make gold doing it.

Turn based mode is handy for stealing and assassinating. Crouch first (so you don’t do it as an action in your turn), go turn based, sneak attack or steal. If you can get far enough away before an npc noticed they have been robbed you get away with theft. Split your thief off from your main party and put them in camp so you don’t need to do their turns. As an assassin subclass you can sneak attack from turn based mode and get your action and bonus back when combat starts. With the assassin perks you can sneak attack them again if you have initiative over them.

For instance, I keep my glass cannons BACK when engaged in combat. Move forward just enough to cast magic missle say, then get back out of range if you can. Makes fights a bit easier. I am now slaving away in act 3 and investigating all the buildings and places covered up by the fog of war. Having fun. 😊😊

You warn about throwing a potion and missing, but actually most potions will spill their effect in a radius if they hit the ground... Including healing! Have your party stand in a tight circle and throw a healing potion on the ground, at everyone's feet. They should all get healed! If you throw it at one person, they'll be the only one to receive the effect.

Stash those explosive barrels at camp. I took down a fairly difficult encounter by sending Karlach back to retrieve and place those barrels, then started the fight with a fire arrow from and elevated and defensible position. There's a video online of 4 barbarian gnomes (halfings?) doing this to the goblin camp. Point is, you can always go to and leave camp to retrieve and equip companions or gear without actually taking a long rest.

A little advice, if you make a sorceror you will probably put the majority of your points in carisma and costitution, and rightfully so, so I suggest to take resilient dexterity at some point to get a tird advantage as well as to help you with initiative and with range weapon in the very desperate case (just a little plan B)
