it's been over 10 years since i started watching your videos and idk why but i forgot about you for a long while after i stopped playing skyrim... and then this video popped up on my feed. now watching this through, i realise i've missed you so much! so happy you're trying out my current absolute favorite game, gopher!
This is nice; a timestamp for each taste. Generally sometimes I watch only start & end ramble and not the actual gameplay (if I want to avoid spoilers); some want to watch only the gameplay. Solution: timestamps!
1h 22m in character creation. THAT is the kind of thing I absolutely LOVE about this game, that you can spend that amount of time just deciding who your character is and what they should look like. One of the best CCs of all time IMHO.
I remember booting up the game when i got it and figured "i'll just mess with the character creation a little before bed". When i closed down the game Steam said i had played over 6 hours lol
@@xdclancer8847 In fact - It IS a good character creation. Maybe not for die-hard D&D players, but it certainly is for the main amount of players that are general RPG players. It's no so complicated that it is overwhelming and put you off (but for beginners it certainly can be an challenge), but at the same time it gives a decent enough amount of choices. It also explains and gives you good information about the choices. Do not forget you can still expand or change your abilities later in the game. So I see nothing really wrong with character creation.
I literally cheered out loud when I saw this on my subscriptions page! So glad to see this playthrough happen! And alongside the Cyberpunk playthrough at the same time, 2024 is gonna be a good year!
@@fkcz76_whispererhuge props to you, dealing with people takes a stupid amount of effort, especially when it means it’s hard for you to enjoy the stream yourself. Thank you!
Yeah SOMETIMES Gopher will scan EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY PIXEL in a room. Other times he'll just decide the entire left side of the screen does not exist and he should never even glance in that direction. In this game, that's REALLY not a good habit to have.
1:25:27 The one advantage of an odd number score is you can take a more interesting feat insead of just an ability score modifier when you get access to feats. For example you could get a feat that gives you one point of Charisma and an extra bonus to two dialogue skills or a point in Strength and the ability to jump further.
Welcome! His previous let's plays and streams (alternate channel Gopher live) are really entertaining! When I found him several years ago, I systematically devoured most of his content at the time, then tapped my foot waiting for new episodes!
whats the point of getting a +1 +1 when you can get a +2 and mantain higher avarage on stats? also whats the point of metagame items he might not get? this is d&d 5e rules and odd numbers are always uselss in character cration
@@mado_0x Odd numbers are not useless unless you're mentally deficient and cannot plan AHEAD. There are LOTS of items that will give a plus one to a stat, and almost NONE will give a plus 2. Gopher may find some of them, and won't find others, and he shouldn't plan around items that he doesn't know about, obviously. But Charisma WILL be his most useful stat throughout the entire game. You want your key stat to be as high as possible, so you have the best flexibility. Assuming you've not actually planned your build out beyond the character creation screen, having a 17 in your key stat gives you the most options. For example. Let's say he hits level 4, and he has 16 charisma. Enemies will start to get stronger, they'll have better armor, stronger spells, more damage. He needs to keep up with this curve, so he needs to pick an option that will make his character stronger. With a 16 in Charisma, his key stat most of his character HAS to be built around because he picked a Bard, Gopher's ONLY option to get stronger, is to get a plus 2 in Charisma. Now, when he runs out of spells and is in a fight, his weapon which he will have to use will be weaker. His dex saves will not get any better either, so he'll be hit by more AOE attacks. His AC overall will be static as Dex matters for armor. If he has 17 Charisma, he can bump up BOTH Dex and Charisma, gaining maximum benefit. If his physical stats are alright, or he has items that beef up his dex (Gith can wear medium armor, maybe he finds some he likes) maybe he finds a feat that is really useful that'll give him a plus 1 to Charisma, now he'll have an 18, where if he had 16 Charisma, he can't take that feat because it won't be impactful enough. The feat gives a +1 BECAUSE the effect is meant to bolster the added score. Perhaps he's REALLY confident, in ALL his other stats, and doesn't have a feat yet that he's eying. So then, the obvious choice is to plus 2 Charisma. IF YOU HAVE 16, you just get 18. A benefit, BUT, if you've got 17, you'll have NINETEEN Charisma. Now you just need ONE little point, and you'll have TWENTY Charisma. Odd numbers are what make character builds FLEXIBLE. Trying to get everything even will just make your power stay the same for LONGER or it'll BARELY inch up. It costs MORE resources later to boost your power if you spread yourself out. You can't be amazing at everything, that's just how it works.
I completely forgot this was today and didn't get a notification from RU-vid until you were already rolling credits. 🤣 Looking forward to watching this VOD.
Man, I so missed Gopher's humor and personality! It's been since either Witcher 3 or that Edith Finch game (whichever was more recent) that I was interested in Gopher's choice of game :) One small tip: Press "T" to be able to read item information and hover over the highlighted words for additional information.
Okay, this isn't a spoiler, since it doesn't affect the story: You do have a camp, and the magical ability to send items from your inventory to the chest in your camp. This is something the game NEVER TELLS YOU, which - If I had known this earlier - would have saved me a lot of time and stress from not being able to loot absolutely everything. Also range controls work in your inventory, so you can crl-click to select multiple individual items or shift-click to select a range of items, then right click, and choose send to camp. You can freely travel to and from your camp from literally anywhere at any time, so long as you're not in dialog or in combat.
That latter point not being explained (CTRL/SHIFT click) is because it follows similar logic used in many games and Windows itself. I notice many games assume you have such knowledge as its commonplace. Same as CTRL+A to select all, or CTRL+1,2,3 (sometimes just number keys), etc to select characters.
> You can freely travel to and from your camp from literally anywhere at any time, so long as you're not in dialog or in combat. Not entirely true, there are a handful of so-called 'hostile areas' within which resting and going back to camp is totally locked off (indicated by the border of the minimap turning red).
Some other useful things the game doesn't tell you: Press T for the ability to hover over additional item / ability information, tab for group inventory overview, shift for highlighting loot & enemy vision cones
@@elmhurstenglish5938 The keys may follow a similar logic, but my controller has neither a CTRL or a SHIFT key. I get that using controller on PC is in the minority, and even more so for a game like this, but it is still an officially supported option. Even if you put that aside, game devs shouldn't assume players will apply logic from windows explorer and expect it to work the same way in a PC game. I wouldn't assume I could CTRL + C to copy an item from my inventory, and then use CTRL + V to paste a copy in another character's inventory.
Feels like its been forever since watching any Gopher. I mostly watch your fabtasy stuff and lately its been a lot of sci-fi. Hope this playthrough goes on forever :)
Small tip (useful for when you were trying to talk to that brain running around) - you can switch to Turn Based Mode out when outside of combat by hitting the bigger round button (same as the end turn button in combat). This pauses everything so you can actually go catch the brain / whatever you're trying to interact with. The UI in general is a lot, but once you get used to it it provides lots of useful information. Speaking of - when you mouse over a target with a spell/attack prepped, it shows a percentage that gives you the likelyhood (based on your bonuses and the target's AC/saving throws) that your ability will land. And just a couple DnD things (feel free to ignore as you please) - Only because you were looking at the Shield of Faith spell (on Shadowheart): some spells are Concentration spells (it says it on the tooltip) - you can only have one concentration spell active at the same time, so casting another cancels the first. - CHA (because you're a bard) makes you more likely to land your spells on enemies. DEX does the same for bows/crossbows. DEX also does the same for your rapier (because it's a *finesse* weapon. DEX also boosts your AC (armor class), making you harder to hit/land spell attacks on. - Similarly, Shadowheart being a Cleric has high WIS so her spells (often just a cantrip) are more likely to hit. Her DEX is lower so worse with a bow, and STR is lower so worse with a melee weapon. - Finally, you may consider turning all your Reactions to "Ask" - reason for this is you only get one Reaction per round, so depending on what reactions you have you *might* want to NOT use say an Opportunity Attack to save that for something more important (like Counterspell on a Wizard) or your Bard has one that uses your Bardic Inspiration to reduce the attack roll of an enemy when they attack a friend (making it less likely they hit). Tons more of course but you'll figure it all out I'm sure.
Just wanted to say man you and your gaming have truly been a blessing to me, I struggle with sleeping and your playthroughs have gotten me past some bad nights keep doing what you do because you help and entertain more people than you might realize
Only Gopher would manage to somehow place Dandelion, the Githyanki and Ron Perlman in such close association... 🤣 Damn, this is going to be awesome, and life is good, you are currently playing CP 2077 AND BG3. Perfect!
Spaces between ladder rungs have increased because people are getting taller Manufacturers claim it's due to climb it change. I have a step ladder. I never knew my real ladder. I’m suspicious of ladders They always seem to be up to something. Why is it a bad idea to climb a ladder around Rick Astley? Because he's never gonna let you down.
Bard is a decent choice, since its a CHA class which is really good as a PC. I Played Paladin first playthrough and it was really nice having 22 CHA. I already decided to try Bard in my 2nd Playthrough. Bard was kind of a meme class in BG1+2 but in BG3 its actually really strong if you multi-class it.
I've done a few runs (rogue assassin, lore bard, and wild sorcerer) - bard has been by far my favourite in large part (though I guess this is true of any high CHA class) because of what you can do with almost every act 2 boss fight, as and because standing at the back yelling insults at everyone during combat while everyone else does all the hard work will never not be funny.
@@IncapableKakistocrat My first char was a Eldritch Knight Fighter, ranged weapon style, charlatan background, high charisma, took the actor feat at level 4. The times I bullshitted my way passed situations are numerous. If there is one thing I've learned from watching people play D&D for the last 12 years, it's that charisma should never just be a dump stat. As for OP, on Bards, BG1&2 were based on 2nd edition D&D where Bards were still incredibly weak, they've gotten a big boost in 5e.
@@AxeGaijin For whatever reason Bards in BG 1&2 are weaker than their AD&D tabletop counterparts they got eighth level spells in tabletop but only sixth level spells in the video games. Also it takes a bit more effort but Blade kit Bard works as a pseudo-Fighter/Mage multi-class. Not as strong obviously but it can still do some work.
You can make a really good wizard tank in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 with a bard. You can just be unhittable. Use shield, blur, mirror image, stoneskin, and invisibility.
Oh, I'm enjoying the hell out of your first experiences, Gopher. It's the way you're so enhusiastic about stuff, in such endearing, "branstormy" way. This game is definitely the example gaming industry needed and maybe a huge step forward for any future cRPG releases ^^
@Gopher! Happy new year! Been so hopin to enjoy a bg3 playthru with you, no lie! I’m stoked to catch your adventuring in faerun. Thank you for choosing to share the experience with us! Blessings to you and your family! Thank you for the content that’s taught me so much and immersed and entertained me over the years! You are absolute awesomesauce! Hope you have the greatest, most epic, year yet!
Loved your video and your character... Glad you turned up the music, it is truly amazing and the composer Borislav Slavov should have won an award for it... I hit the subscribe button. :D
Fantastic, I've been hoping you'd play BG3! I can never keep track of streaming things, so thanks for putting it here for those of us who need to watch out of sync. So nice hearing your voice (and snark) again!
If you were here for a holiday I hope you enjoyed yourself! Wasn’t the best weather for Dec/Jan and we are still dealing with very unusual storms. But that said we are a country of droughts and flooding rains! 😊
"I don't want to break the lore" - after making a githyanki bard :D My headcanon will be that his character got lost and hit his head when first out as a youngster, and subsequently remembers nothing of githyanki culture, history, or his own upbringing ;)
Hiii I haven't watched your videos since witcher 3, and what a coincidence that you posted this! I just finished my first playthrough of the game today and have major game hangover soo this will get me through it. Thanks!!
Fun Fact: The human body has more than 60 TYPES of sphincters. I assume that is similar for Githcranky. The sphincters that are most numerous are the microscopic ones used to control blood flow through capillaries (the smallest blood vessels). Sphincters are life. Sphincters are love.
Image quality was excellent even on my flats screen TV and the audio was fine where it was before you bumped it up at the end. When I play, I tend to begin with dialogue on 100% everything else at 90-95% before I tweak the rest as in games like this where it is roleplaying and can be dialogue heavy the spoken words are essential. Nice to join your streams again.
FYI Anisotropic filtering in the game menu doesn't do anything with the current patch, it needs to be forced from nvidia control panel or you get blurry ground when viewed from angles.
There is just so many things and dialogues you can miss in this game in your first playthrough. I recommend you to take a lot of long rests. It leads to events.
You couldn't have decided to play this at a better time for me. I've just reached Act 3 and I've already started 2 additional characters but if I am going to watch anyone else play it then it's you!
A couple of comments: 1) since you've turned off genitals and nudity, the game will add some extra graphics to cover most of the naughty bits, but the character will still have bare buttocks, so it's probably best to leave the underwear on 2) if you purchased the deluxe upgrade, the game does download some extra goodies, including a copy of the soundtrack, and artbook, and actual D&D character sheets for the origin characters. That might be what you saw being downloaded.
The DLC notification he saw relates to in-game items that appear in the camp chest. It's basically a handful of items from DOS2 which are either purely cosmetic or get *very* quickly outmatched (Sebille's dagger, the Red Prince's cape, Beast's hat, Loshe's lute, and Fane's shapeshifting mask [which just lets you use the disguise spell, I believe]). The artbook, OST, etc. don't have in-game notifications, they just appear in the game's install folder.
I know this is late, but logically being a bard you'd be very good with words because of your singing skills, so any sort of wordplay like persuasion would be high on your abilities, like Obi-Wan with the Stormtroopers in ANH.
You indeed can keep one of the intellect devourers as a pet, just not the one you tried. You missed an elevator in the very beginning. It also will be disguised as a cat to not scare the crowd. Think of an alien monster cat, it's not too late to replay the tutorial😅
Githyanki are essentially the D&D equivalent of aliens. Well I should say Gith because there's Githyanki and Githzerai but you can't play as Githzerai in this unfortunately. Edit: Also that fight with the devil and mindflayer looks unwinnable but you can win if you know what you're doing.
The learning curve is a bit steep, but this has become my favorite game of all time. I've got almost 400 hours in it with 2 playthroughs and all I can think about is starting new playthroughs with different races, classes, and morals.
Hey Gopher, if you like this style of CRPG with a heavy bent towards D&D perhaps you would also love the classics from BI such as Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, I think you'd get a huge kick out of Planescape Torment and even a newer one like Numenera Tides of Torment. Personally the writing is stellar in all but one and even then half finished Numenera is a great taste of what could be. Also keep up the good work, love your stuff - you even get my hate lets play partner to chuckle - you keep doing you
I think Gopher said he played the first 2? If not I think if it’s definitely worth him playing if at anything as a “him” game off stream. It’s old and clunky sure but it does use 2nd edition D+D rules both games do.
I would be shocked if he hasn’t played all of those games - at the time they were being released, and I believe he’s the same age as me, so was definitely old enough to be able to keep up to date - they were the latest and greatest rpgs on pc. That really didn’t change until Mass Effect 1 did so well and the crpg just died out until that kickstarted one whose name I cannot remember.
Knocks Pathfinder WOTR off the top spot as the best isometric CRPG ever made. I was around in the late 90's and purchased BG1 (in its HUGE box haha) on release. I still have it, the original 5 disc box set. Back then the game blew me away like no other game had to that point (Deux Ex also had the same impact). BG3 doesn't quite have the complexity of WOTR but it more than makes up for it in far superior writing and characterisation. Plus the freedom of choice WITHIN the gameplay is like nothing I've ever seen. This is a daunting prospect to take on for any streamer as the need to push on with the main story will be even more pronounced than usual. There is so much content in this game it's ridiculous but whatever path you take will be a great experience
Here is some tips from some one who is on his 3rd playthrough. First of all get a controller if you want better camera angles when you walk around and want to see the beauty of the world. The game is very well made for controller and you can easily switch between controller and mouse and keyboard as you play. Secondly is that in any DnD game you want as many actions and dice rolls you can get per turn. To maximize damage and successful skill checks you have to build your characters around the items you find. There are magic rings etc. that will give you +2 to attack etc. This items is very, very valuable. Make sure to trade with everyone. Some times you can find people are selling really good things even though they are not "shop owners". Also it's very important to explore the map like you're playing a Final Fantasy game. There is usually a chest or something good to loot tucked away around every remote corner of the map. In this episode you missed to discover at least 3 chests and and recruiting a companion because you didn't look around. There is nothing wrong with pulling up the map to see if you explored everywhere. That brings us to a 3rd thing. This game allows you to solve situations in many different way that will result in many different outcomes. You can even kill off important companions to the main quest story or even refuse to recruit them so think of what you're doing. Some quests are also time sensitive. Time however is not linear. Time move forward when you go to the camp. In the DnD 5e rulebook a long rest is 8 hours but there is nothing in the game that say how long it is. But if you sleep too many times before going some where, an important side quests can disappear. In act 1 there are at least 3 things I am aware of that will "go away" if you're spending too mush time at the camp. PS: I recommend you look at bg3.wiki/ for leaning about the classes and game mechanics. It's better explained than what you find in game. Especially for those that never played the table top game before. Especially if you want to create some multi-class builds.
I am going to provide some advice/clarification on the ability scores. Obviously, feel free to completely ignore this if you would like. When it comes to ability scores, 10 is considered "average" in that area and has a modifier of 0, every 2 every two levels this goes up increases the modifier by +1. You can increase these scores normally up to a maximum of 20(a +5 bonus). Regarding odd numbered scores, strength is the only ability score where and odd number does anything at all normally. This is because your carry weight is determined by your strength score and not the ossaciated modifier. Besides that there are certain items/feats that provide a +1 bonus to cerain ability scores which can allow you(if you have an odd number) to increase one of your midifiers while still obtaining a feat in the process. That being said without having a deeper knowledge of everything available in the game going for even modifiers is definately the way to go in general.
Its kind of trippy seeing this on pc, ive been playing on xbox and the interface is very different for consoles. Still a great game either way though. Im really unfamiliar with crpgs (cause i dont pc), and i dont know too much about dnd either. Despite that i decided to pick up the game up because ive heard nothing but great things about the game, and once i started playing i got hooked. Cant wait to see what gopher does with his playthrough. By the way this is completely off topic, but I'm just kind of curious what kind of characters other people picked for their first playthrough. I went with a female drow (the non evil version) ranger wth the animal companion.
My first character was my go-to standard human rogue. My 2nd character is a half elf wild magic sorcerer. I adore her so much. Having wild magic proc is unbelievably fun. 😂
Nice stream! Finally! A streamer who actually READS the Action and Spell descriptions and figures things out. He doesn't treat the game like a First Person Shooter game and actually takes his time to understand the mechanics...... unlike some streamers. You have my SUB! 👍
Gith is great choice, i tend to always play Gith Bard babe in friends multiplay. Gith minus is no dark vision But as they are "aliens" grown up in pocket universe where time stands, they tend to live 1000y and master lot of arts. So they from get go wield Greatswords and medium armour, this makes them greatest fighters. Now depends what subclass bard you choose but college of Lore has great Bardic Insp. ability's and lvl6Bard/lvl6Paladin or Rouge damn interesting combo..
The character creator is trash! Tf you on about? Literally 6 face options to choose from 😂 No face sliders No body No height slider And the same voices for every race! Games from ten years ago had better customisation than this But it’s okay we have nudity and genitalia to choose!!
Hey Gopher, think of it like Microsoft flight simulator. Don't worry you will be fine. You play as a party, so each character has different strengths. You could think of it as a table top simulator, You are one person playing 4+ characters instead of a group of people, each playing one character. Just remember to breath, it will be fine.
I'm so many hours into the game and don't know wtf I'm doing, only makes sense that the first two hours of this video are just character creation and settings 😅😊
Fantasy & magic is so not my genre, I'm more a sniper rifle, RDR2 kinda gal but I will totally sit here & watch you play this game for 3 hours. You totally bring your characters to life.
Well it's either the mindflare or the Demons from the 9th layer of hell. And the mindflare thinks you are on his side and the demons is going to kill all of you if they kill the mindflare and as a level one character I don't think a CR20 pitfiend will work out for you.
Holy hell Gopher that is almost my first build Gyth Bard just with worse stat dist, cantrips and spells and so on just because I never played D&D or an actual CRPG before for that matter.
Okay, so I might just be crazy, but I know part 2 was streamed today (been dying to watch it all week, but it hadn't happened yet) but I cannot find it on the channel, is there a reason for this? I just got home from work excited to watch the video and it's not there. I even bought cheesy poofs and Dr. Pepper for the occasion on the way home. :(
@@abd733.k We will need to wait until Gopher is awake and can investigate what’s going on. Maybe it was flagged for content, however it would clearly be an error by RU-vid because I doubt there is anything restricted about his stream. I have my fingers crossed 🤞🏻
I can certainly commiserate. I had to stop myself and just resigned myself to the fact that Gopher is likely in bed, like any sane person this late (not that I'm accusing Gopher of being sane or anything...) and that if anything is going to be done about it, it will likely be tomorrow at the earliest. I just hope that it CAN be reposted and that it isn't some sort of technological hiccup that somehow has deleted the entire thing out of existence. @@KalaBrae
Triple buffering while nice, causes some crashes to occur, i experienced my first crash recently and when i set triple to double the crashes have been 0 so far.
In D&D you get Ability bonus at every even # starting at 10. So it will go like. 10 +0 12 +1 14 +2 16 +3 18 +4 20 +5 Etc. The odd #s stays the same until you hit an even # Strength: is for your strength skill checks and carrying weight, and damage. Dex: is for you Dex skill checks and your AC (armor class) defense. And if you get weapon finesse you can use your Dex mod to attack Instead of your strength. Con: mostly has to deal with physical saves. Like pushing threw exhaustion. Or taking damage . Intelligent: how smart you are mostly skill checks for knowledge about a subject mostly good for Mages/ magic user's. Wisdom: how wise you. It is mostly used with how good are you at reading people like detecting Lies, sensing Motives, Innuendos, etc. It is also used to save against any mind control spells basically you're will power. Cha: very good for anyone who is a performer or the smooth talker. It is used with skills like bluff, intimidate, Deplomacy, etc.
