I have no doubt that if the Paras had not set foot in Northern Ireland, there would not have been 2 major events that turned Catholics against the Army, Ballymurphy and Bloody Sunday. If the Royal Green Jackets had been there instead, more restraint would have been shown.
Unfortunately the British Army just did in Ballymurphy what the British Imperialists do/did throughout the world, repress and subjugate local populations by murder, imprisonment and torture. Has the British government learnt another way? No - Iraq and Afghanistan continues on the same theme.

Iraq was in the shit with suddam in charge now its ten times worse with sunni v shiite and the emergence of isis. The british empire and army call the natives terrorists and crimnals when they oppose or retaliate in any way while at the same time they invade their land pillage murder torture and oppress the same people. You do know why the US and britain invaded iraq maybe because of the oil but why afghanistan maybe because its the biggest opium producer in the world. Controlling the heroin trade is a massive plus for any goverments coffers. Who cares that there was no wmds found or that countless afghanis british and US soldiers lost their lives.

The british empire and army have probaly killed more innocent civilans than the nazis ever did by a large margin considering the british empire stretched two thirds of the world and had invaded 90% of the world at some stage and lasted nearly 400 years. Only 22 countries were never invaded by britain. The ira were amateurs compared to the british killing machine.
@@brendanwalker4696 in Scotland we have non jury trials. I've been on the end of them a cpl of times. Only a judge or magistrate. But they only hand out small sentences. Like 6 months. @freeballymurphy hi i was wondering how you got the archive of this video... i had a brother who was shot dead in ardoyne, he was 12 years old anthony mcdowell, the british army shot him, there was tv cameras there interviewing people and the soliders about the shooting but i dont know or how i could retrieve that footage.. would really appreciate if you could help... thank you
Sorry to hear about your brother. If it was filmed then try and find out who it was that was filming it. And try and see if you can get the footage from them. Good luck with it. Murdering rat's. Hate the British army and government for these attrocities.

It seems pure daft to be having a battle in the middle of a council estate - people could get hurt. Surely a battlefield could have been found nearby. And where were the Gardai - probably out the road operating a speed trap for handy fines - instead of tackling the real criminals running around in broad daylight firing guns and letting off fireworks and driving the dogs crazy.
