This is a Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Fokker D.VII handed down to me from a friend. This series will cover the good, the bad and the ugly on what has occurred in the past, what will be done to make it right and turn it into a beautiful plane that will enjoy many years of flight. Join me for the journey.

As a painter myself, after masking over the first colour I spray a tack coat of the first colour to seal any tape leech. Then spray the second coat colour. This will leave a clean edge. Hope this helps. I am up to the fire wall install on mine and did one thing different. I am rotating the motor about 15 degrees to bypass most of the dummy engine cutting. Ordered the 90 degree exhaust adapter and 240mm flexible extention on the hope I can somehow put it in the manifold.

Looking great!! On my DR.1 I did not bother to mask the wings. I sprayed the bottoms light blue first then carefully did the tops of the wings in a dark blue. Made a nice soft leading edge

the fix to stop the light going true color is painting everything with silver paint first , the silver coat will stop the seeing true light without having a dark shade on your top coat ,it 's doing the same light neutral base color coat as white primer keeping your top color as bright

Why did you not stick with dope for the colors as well? I have always had problems mixing products with dope. I have had primer start lifting and flaking off after I was done and flying my planes.

Was thinking of sending an e-mail to see if you were still alive. It's been a while since the last video.

Still alive.. Sent out a couple 'short videos' between the regulars. I give you a buzz tomorrow to see how things are going at the new homestead.

Is the ace premium paint good for painting a gasser cowling? Everybody I talk to said to use automotive paint, like apoxy???? It is expensive, and i've already put too much into it. HELP!!!

The blue Color should be perfect for contrast between your paint and the sky blue of the sky. You never wanted to camouflage the bottom of the plane. You won't see the plane very well, bad news. But I know you know that.
