I watched a youtuber livestream playing this game and she also got completely lost a bunch of times, and she had the lifestream chat to help her and all of us still got confused :/

I nabbed this day one, and I have to agree. It's confusing and just... not anywhere near fulfilling its potential. Trying to figure out how to do whatever I need to do next is frustrating, and the lack of a mini map makes even basic traversal a chore (esp for "directionally challenged" folks like me). I played several hours at launch and just can't bring myself to go back. Buyer's remorse... big time. Really wish I'd seen your review first. ETA: That said, Balatro has been keeping me both busy and happy. I seriously hope you guys are planning a review of that one, as it's been insanely popular on PC (even getting some "game of the year" predictions), but oddly overlooked on Switch, despite being a solid port. Sooo glad that one came out when it did, as I've had a hard time putting it down.

I totally hear you on the systems. I was googling how to complete the first quest and it was all because of the lack of info and the fact I also needed to craft something before I cooked the food ughhh.

I wish the bad things like the map could be cleaned up. I was going to buy this day one but looks like an update and a sale away for me!

I think this was a fair review and accurate. I did see a few other reviews talk about the confusing system, so I was mentally prepared for it, which actually made it seem not so bad once I did play. I'm quite addicted at the moment. It's so linear that I really wasn't confused until the rest of the islands were unlocked. But, I'm figuring out more and more how to use the tips in the quests and such. It definitely could be better. Probably my biggest gripe is that I can't use all the carpets in any place.

Seems like as this is the last of the collaboration, they wanted to implement as many features as possible and ultimately suffering from bloat and Feature Creep. Shame too, there is promise in many of these systems to stand alone if fleshed out. Perhaps a few updates before support concludes might tidy up the bloat otherwise the collaboration ends with a confused wimper.

Too bad about the issues and slightly wonky responsiveness. I love the art style and the animation. And some of the ideas were really cool, like the backpack home. Based on your footage, I thought the player character's walk/run animation was excellent and distinct. I love the way he hops from one stubby leg to the other. It kind of reminded me of certain stubby/rotund characters from stop motion classics, like The Nightmare Before Christmas. It seems like this one needed a little more time in the oven. With any luck it'll get some Baldo-esque TLC, then we can hear all about it on a future All-Patched Up episode!

This game has been on my radar since it was announced last year. But I'll wait until the game is on sale and when it updates, if it does.

So disappointed as I was really looking forward to getting this one...but wanted to wait a week or so for reviews everywhere & just wait & see. Glad I did. Pretty & aesthetically pleasing - but that's not enough to lure me & hopefully many others in as gameplay is everything imho.

Hopefully they can patch and fix some of these issues. The graphics and animations are quite stunning.

I got the game at release and mostly don’t regret it. I like the game but soemthing didn’t sit well with me while playing it. Then I looked up the devs. This game is a happier and lite/diet version of graveyard keeper. I’m not saying it in a derogatory way just both games have a lot of the same issues around the same systems. It’s a good follow up just once I realized it it’s impossible to unsee.

Yeah, I had the issue with getting stuck. Especially when you needed to unlock skills to do something. I was so stuck figuring out how to add my sliced beets to the oven. Turns out, I hadn't unlocked one of the three skills I needed to make that dish. I have learned to look there first, but it would be nice if that would have been the next step on your quest list. Instead of just saying something like: Set up a food stall. Which takes many steps in between to get there. But overall, it's enjoyable and the graphics and especially the colours are excellent.

haha, your Yordle is like a little MCV from Red Alert with that backpack.

Sounds like there is some fun to be had but with Unicorn Overlord right around the corner I'll wait for a sale before picking it up and adding to the old backlog

I feel like I would absolutely enjoy this game, as a life long league of legends fan the setting does the trick for me already and the stardew valley gameplay elements make the whole package seem perfect. I could probably overlook the flaws, not every game has to be 9 or 10 out of 10. Some of my favourite games ever regularly got 6 or 7 back in their day. Amazing video as usual, can’t wait for the next one! (PS. COYS 😉)

Even before the layoffs Riot Forge had a history of not patching the games post-release. Now? Even more unlikely.

I bought this game and played about 3 hrs. I found it so convoluted and confusing that it became frustrating and boring. I don’t like to slowly run around forever trying to figure out what I need. There is a guide online but I can see I would need it a lot. That’s not fun for me. So I’ve gone back to Octopath Traveller 2 which I’m playing until Unicorn Overlord comes out. I did great with the UO demo despite its complicated system and that’s what I’m looking for in a game. Thanks for the review!

It does look really cute, and all the positives coupled with the £19.99 price tag make me want to buy it. But, I would be so hacked off hunting through the menus all the time to work out what I was meant to be doing. Glen said he would buy it in a 50% sale, but I would rather hope the developers looked into those issues and resolved them, and I would happily pay full price.

All of your negatives seem like positives to me! This is what I loved about their previous game Graveyard Keeper, you were a 21st century man teleported to a strange medieval village with strange citizens and you had to figure out how that strange world worked all by yourself. Some of it was through trial and error, some of it through deduction, but it was super fun and rewarding to finally figure out how this system or that system worked and how the different systems interacted with each other. I understand that it's not for everyone, but for me it was a ton of fun!

Overall looks pretty good. Stands out a bit and that's a good thing

I know you may have felt harsh in your criticisms, but I think you were spot on. I’ve been watching several different youtubers doing blind playthroughs, and their and my observations have matched yours, almost to a tee. It’s got the bones of a good game in there, but needs some serious post-release love if it’s ever to achieve its potential and until such time, I think I’ll be steering clear.

Well what you describe with the systems, leveling up, stuff like that. That happened to me in Palia. But in your review you didn't mention that at all. So I guess there's like a culture in this kind of games where the less they know on how it works "the more relaxing" haha. Well anyhow you know what could've helped? A good old trusty manual! But now a day's thats for dinosaurs hahahaha. I guess a happy medium would be for them to add an optional tool tip system for those that want to "know more" on how things work hahaha. Developers going a little bit too deep into making things minimalistic hahaha.

Man, I was looking forward to this. This had so much potential but it sounds like this needs updates and post-launch clean-up.

Can someone tell me if this game looks good on nitendo switch lite? I really loved the game, but i'm usure if it's worth buying it for my nitendo or my pc instead.

I watched a reviewer stumble around lost for quite a while and they mentioned after 10 hrs they still had difficulty navigating the game. I think the small issues adding up means that this is a miss for me. But you made fair points. Sometimes ppl are less critical on 'cozy games' than other genres.

Am I the only one that doesn’t get confused with this game? I actually love the fact that I sometimes have to figure out things on my own

I bought this game on steam for my Rog Ally…I returned it for now. It’s cute but it did play with stuttering that was very hard on my eyes. I had no idea what I was doing. In Canada it is a $45 game and I don’t feel it’s quite that range. If it goes on sale half off, and has updates then I would gladly try again

I've played about 10 hours of the game and I don't agree with your assessment. The reason is I've heard other game reviews say similar things to you BUT I don't think the game is meant to be played in a big chunk (I get it you've got to review it). The first night I played, I probably played about 3 hours, the following day close to 5, by the end of it I felt a bit frustrated because there wasn't a huge amount of "this is what you need to do next", like you said the game hints at what you're supposed to go but certainly doesn't point you in any great direction. I think that's the supposed to be the charm of it, you figure it out yourself and then there's that feeling of accomplishment. It's like a huge puzzle that needs to be pondered over, rather than a game where you play to get from the beginning to the end. I've played Graveyard Keeper and that certainly doesn't give you any hand holding, but it has a bit of cult following, and I think Bandle Tale is the same. It's for gamers that like a slow burn, that want that sense of exploration and accomplishment when they figure something out. As for the way the Yordle's walk, oh my goodness, it's so freaking cute! I don't get why you think it's janky, I love it. I think this game will be enjoyed by a specific type of player, it shouldn't be written off (or reviewed negatively) just because it's not the reviewers type of game (or because the reviewer couldn't play through it quickly)

I think your character walks that way due to having a "casted" leg.

What a shame, it looks like there's a great game under all the issues. I hope you get a chance to revisit this in an All patched up video.

Omg the quest log taking up like a third of the screen. Did they not the trust the world they built to fill up the screen?

I've seen multiple reviews with these same complaints, so it definitely seems like it's got some fatal flaws rather than just preferences. Such a pity, I was so looking forward to it!

This game looks pretty good, in spite of the headaches. This will probably be a sale pick-up for me, unfortunately. Not in the budget to add to my backlog right now. Lol!

Arkham Knight got updated. The patch is MASSIVE and i think you should cover it...i didn't start the game yet, so i don't know if they've been able to fix something but...here it is

I watched some gameplay from a cozygame youtuber I like. Honestly it's sadly not for me :( the art style is adorable, but the gameplay seems tedious. I dont want to buy games that I wont love playing, so I just watch others play it to scratch the itch of new games :-) works like a charm

Sounds like a lot of the negatives could be fixed up with a couple patches so hopefully we see this on an episode of all patched up! I'm also bummed riot shut down riot forge because the majority of the games out of it were really quite good!

Like the art style of this one but not been into league of legends at all and currently playing too much Stardew.

I played LoL like more than 10 years ago. Tristana was a painfull character jumping all over the place.

It's so odd seeing all these League of Legends spinoff games come to Switch when I have never played or watched the game.

Was really hoping for this game to be good...

The character movement does look really janky. I don't know if this is exclusive to the Switch version, or if it's a genuine issue with the game. Though to be honest, I was never a player of League of Legends, as it wasn't really a type of game I cared that much into playing. I will say the pixel art style kind of reminds me of the Drawn to Life games on DS, as they both consist of little fluffy creatures, and they're both rendered in highly detailed pixel art.

Not sure about this one. But hope for more games from the League of Legends universe so I don’t have to play LoL and deal with the toxic community

I like it, but it has some strange gameplay decisions, so it's very grindy, parts not always play together well and the map is quite useless.

Just a sad shame that the devs got laid off after this game released 😢

Shame. I'll have to take this one off the wishlist. I trust Switchup scores over anyone else, even over Meta Critic. Even if a Meta score is relatively mediocre, but Switchup score is good, I'll always go with the boys. Nice bit of brown-nosing! 😅

Menu design is not something you can skimp on, just like any other interactive element in a game. A game can look amazing, have great ideas and gameplay, but a frustrating and inaccessible menu can ruin the experience entirely.

Been waiting for this review. Having had the frustrations of gameplay echoed on a number of other channels as well; this is a real disappointment. Oh well. One less for the backlog!
