Linlithgow Reed Band lead the march of the Civic Party from the Burgh Halls up to historic Linlithgow Palace during the 2022 Linlithgow Marches in Scotland. Bathgate Brass Band then follow, leading the march of the Dyers' Party towards the Palace. The Court of the Deacons of the Ancient and Royal Burgh of Linlithgow is a voluntary organisation made up of male and female deacons from town organisations, other duly elected men and women members and all living Past Provosts.
Linlithgow is one of Scotland’s most ancient Burghs, having received a royal charter from King Robert II in 1389. This gave the town’s authorities the right to hold markets, claim revenue and administer the port of Blackness. A condition was an annual payment to the king - and the need to patrol the town’s properties and boundary every year- the origin of “The Marches".
