I saw the Bangles open for Cindy Lauper in 1984 in University Park, Pa, at Rec Hall. I never had an opening act impact me to the point I told my friend, “these ladies are going to be big successes.” I never forgot the Bangles and this was before all their famous hits.
In an interview she said that look was completely by accident. The director kept yelling at the girls to not look into the camera. She was looking off to the side, remembered what he said, and did the little blink thing instead.
Prince wrote this song for The Bangles because he had the hots for Susanna Hoffs. Duh! Who wouldn't? I love this song and her voice. Not the typical chick singer sound. Plus i dig the fact that ALL these ladies can really play and groove, which is way cool.
I was flabbergasted when I found out Prince wrote this song under the name Christopher. It just showed what a genius the guy was. And then I heard his version and I was like this guy is incredible. And I wanted Susanna so bad. I would've loved to tell her C'MON HONEY LET'S GO MAKE SOME NOISE.
This was an MTV concert...back when MTV actually showed music! Yeah, everyone looked and sounded great, especially Susanna, lol! This song has actually aged quite well, I like it much better now than I did at the time....

I would imagine they would rich. Hugely popular in the 80s and had many hits. I would have to say they one of my favourite groups. When I think of a group I really loved they come to mind.
This song sounds even better when performed live. I love the way Susanna's voice echoes from the microphone in the arena. People can say what they want, but Susanna was the main attraction in that band. Nothing against the others, they all had a role. But, she was by far the most attractive and her voice made it all work. And those eyes are hypnotizing!
That has nothing to do with her being the main attraction in the Bangles. She is the only one of the four who became a star while in the band and whose name most people remember.
@@ChildOfThe1970s Agreed. It's like Debbie Harry, who never made it far in the solo career. Don't get me wrong. Clem Burke is an amazing drummer and Chris Stein is a great writer...but Debbie WAS Blondie.
I knew Susanna was gorgeous before I ever saw her just based on her voice. To me she was one of the best lead singers of any group then or now. Taking her out of the group would be like taking Gwen Stefani out of No Doubt.
The best girl band of my time their songs melody,the voices and the way they played.others only they could only sing. Butt they could not play the instruments.the bangles is the best.

Suzanna looks a bit like Christy Canyon. Aside from her smokin body and pretty face, they all are great musicians, it's not easy to exactly replicate a song on stage. I think I was 7 years old at this time, the 80's were great.

One of the few real live performances of this song on youtube and its fantastic. As a side note, the 'side eye' that Hoffs is giving, left and right while never looking forward or into the camera is because she couldn't see the camera in the distance in the middle. She's usually got a great awareness where the camera is as can be seen from multiple other performances.
