The Bangles’ harmonies were top-notch. As a trio, they still have a great vocal blend, but I feel it was best with bassist Michael Steele in the mix before she retired from the band in ’05.
@@JeffTheGent yes, that sweeping harmony line at 2.59 is a line of sound that very few bands could capture live. It was great that women, by this era, were able to be in a band with just as much attitude and style as the male bands.
Back when bands male or female actually played their instruments and could sing without auto tune or backing tracks. All of these ladys could sing and hold their own. Very talented. Some so called singers today wouldn't know what to do if they had to actually play live and sound good, it just would or couldn't happen. Love this band............
David Andrews Agreed...and actually all of the Bangles were seriously good musicians. I saw them live back in the 1980's and unlike many of the female acts of the day, Paula Abdul etc., the Bangles did not lip sync or use other crap. The Bangles were talented and they did not need that other fake stuff.
2003 Trans Am YOU ARE 100% CORRECT. BEAUTIFUL WOMEN AND LIKE YOU SAID NO FAKE STUFF OF ANY SOME SORT. BANGLES ARE TALENTED GROUP. THANK YOU FOR YOU POST. YOU UNDERSTAND.

Vicki Peterson played the hell outta that lead guitar in this performance and on the studio version of this wonderful Jules Shear song! 🎸 Much respect to the other Bangles too: Susana Hoffs on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Michael Steele on bass and Vicki’s sister Debbi Peterson on drums. And the four of them sound amazing on the vocal harmonies.
Oh my God, Susanna may the most perfect woman God ever created!. That face is perfection. That voice is amazing. that body "i'd be giving to her" if I could. Those eyes, those lips, that hair. oh my god
It's such an amazingly heartfelt song. Wonderful. I know Bangles were superstars of their era, but somehow they still feel under-rated and slept on as serious musicians.
I love the Bangles in live performances. To think that the record producers many times didn't record them playing their own instruments (probably because they thought that they were "just girls"). Debbi is awsome on drums, and Vicki just rocks those guitar solos. If anyone doubts Susanna as a rhythm guitarist you just have to observe closely as she belts out those jangly rhythms on that Rickenbacker 12 string. And Michael, well she is just the epitome of "cool" on that bass line. Gotta love them Bangles.
I love this song! They are all really talented and gorgeous. I think the sound better live. Concert is great. What a perfect rendition of beautiful song!
Micki!!!! You are so beautiful and I really like the way you harmonize with the lead singer. You are the best and the most beautiful! Your beautiful face is a masterpiece of God! You're the best female bassist!
Sadly I never paid that much attention to there great musicians, amazing live, I loved their songs back then for sure but never bothered to catch them, my loss. Rick on ladies
I know Susanna and Steele are the two that most people like the most. But I've always been the biggest fan of Vicki Peterson. Maybe I'm a sucker for guitar 😂
Always loved it when she sings 'he's crazy for this girl' as I was crazy for them back then. A British reviewer of this song likened Susanna's vocal to Dolly Parton!
@@donmoore7785 Well, that parts the start of it, yeah. But, now that I hear how much more rock-and-rolly they are live, I like it and can listen. Better than the studio versions, fer shur....
This was my favorite single from the 'Different Light' album, it should have been a much bigger hit. This version sounds like a carbon copy from the album, but that's find, the vocals are so exquisite!
@mikey777799 Their first full length album had 2 covers on it, and their 2nd lp had 4 covers on it. Their 1988 album had no covers at all. That was the one with "Eternal Flame" and "In your room" on it. They've released 2 more full length albums since their reunion, one with no covers and one with just a few. So to answer your question, they wrote the majority of their songs either with each other or with outside songwriters. Their best songs were their own. "Dover Beach", "Following", etc...
One minor disappointment: at the end Susanna does not let her Rick ring three times on the B chord in the a capella chorus as per the studio recording. Otherwise: what a perfect rendition of a beautiful song, such gorgeous women and what a great lead guitarist. Christ Almighty, near perfection on all levels
I thought I was the only one who noticed lil nuances like that..LOL.Yeah, I really like the harmony stacking in this mix as well, speshly the lines during E to F#.Has that suspended feel! Seems to slightly differ from show to show.
One thing I noticed: Live they 'rocked' a lot harder than they did on their records. Debi's drums had more of an echo; Vicki's guitarwork was more aggressive. Well done
It's because she has a lazy eye. If you watch her in interviews you'll notice it. You can only see it when she is looking right at the camera. She's hyper-aware of it and self-conscious while performing. That's why she always looks far left and far right when the camera is on her face. You can't tell that way. And people thought she was trying to be sexy. She wasn't at first, until someone told her how sexy the side-eye thing was in "walk like an Egyptian". After, she did it all the time. #littleknownfact
In interviews, Susanna has said that she looks side to side to control her nervousness on stage. Some performers pick a spot in the back of hall. Susanna picks out certain people from the audience and shifts her glance from person to person as she sings.
@99Karloff I'm almost 100% sure this is a TV camera recording. Film has more of a different feeling to it visually, even when seen on VHS like here - different artifacts, color, etc. A proper digital transfer would still blow this out of the water - this rip has both the aspect ratio and frame rate messed up.
@beatenaroundthebush I mean that even fully dressed (as opposed to many other female singers nowadays), Michael is still sexier than most. Sorry I didn't make it clear
