To their credit, when the Bangles met Alex Chilton in 1986 and found out that he had not received any royalties for this song, they personally wrote him a check for $16,000 and then made sure that he received all royalties due him. It speaks well of their character.
@@joyk555 You guys have ruined me on this woman....I can't get enough of her...I totally cheated myself, back in the day. I'm tryin' to figure out how I can blame you, somehow.....but I can't.
Such a PHENOMENAL cover. Wow. Michael's voice is perfect. So much talent in this band. They did a really nice job of sharing vocal responsibilities. Michael was definitely the right choice for this song
Micki!! Listen to that voice and bass!! The Goddess at stage. Her grace and beauty makes Micki fabulous! This song is one of Bangles best. Bangles- one of the best liveband in the world when Micki played bass.
Wow - she is so classy. Susannah was the cutie pie party girl. Vicky was the wild rock girl. Debbie was the sweetie pie. Michael was the girl that you wanted to marry.
This song is one of the best bangles ever did and it should be an single ...Michael Steele has the bands best voice..so sensitive and hurtfull but sexy her song "somethin to belive in" for the bands third album in 89 is one of the best songs radio ever played....many critics says Steeles song always was the best and that she is the best member sad that she left the band in 05 (horrible year) but she is on myspace ofthen
Michael was the prettiest of the Bangles.Where ever sge is now,may GOD kindly bless this dear girl, her beloved pets, and kindly keep them both well&safe. All my love, and best wishes for dear Micki. Her parents in Heaven must be very proud of this dear girl.
She is still alive. She was probably the most talented one of the band. She really does have that late 1960s psychedelic aura just like Ann Wilson of Heart does.
You probably are right,my dear friend. She was the prettiest, and most talented of the Bangles.May God indeed kindly bless this dear girl, her beloved pets, and kindly keep them both well.Danke schoen, mein lieber Freund David, and God bless you,and Happy Memorial Day!
i love the little poke on Susannah's shoulder at the end.. great mood between them, and Michael's experienced bass playing and smooth stage presence is pure gold. 49 yo, listening to this record since 86, classic ! and i'm into noise music !! but those ladies nailed something, a..vibe that connects - it's rare
i feel like micheal steele has so much talent and i wish she was featured more than she was in the bangles..shes got a lovely voice...ive been playing bass since 85 and i obviously am still doing it...she is my fav girl bass player..i also liked kathy valentine's little bass line in the go gos head over heels..but i dont compare the 2 groups..bangles were more jingle jangle rickenbackers and paisley..where as go gos was more california rock and roll with a spalsh of punk lol.THANK you 4 the vid!
To have kissed Micki's sweet, pretty face would most probably have felt justl ike Heaven,I imagine.Dear God,please kindly bless, and take care of this dear girl,Micki, wherever she is.She's a really special girl, and human being.
I loved the Bangles and this song was one of my favorites. Amazing to think she was the only truly seasoned member of the band, having worked with the Runaways (Joan Jet, Lita Ford - most have heard of) and she actually sought them out (she knows her awesome). Magic.
I was working in the USA in 1989 and I saw them play live at the Mid Hudson Civic Centre, Poughkeepsie NY - one of the best live gigs I've ever seen, they were on top form and the crowd went absolutely nuts. A very happy memory :).
Lets thank pretzelFarmer for putting 16 rare Bangles clips here! I hit the favorite button 10 seconds after it started! These chicks are all excellent ! Why micks voice wasn't used more in other songs is a mystery ! Thanks Pittsburgh Pa.
I am 59 and I finally discovered the tremendously wonderful group Big Star; I checked the CDof their 1st 2 L.P.s from the library. 5 stars!! for both LP's I couldn't believe how great Sept.Gurls was, I played it 10 times in a row. The suggestion box sent me hear and now I find that the Bangles were for real. Beautiful cover of S. Gurls, and all of the other songs I found from this concert were awesome. Beautiful musicianship. And U ladies too! To discover BigStar and Bangles in the same week!!
Michelle, return please !!! At least one more time. I rediscovered The Bangles again (once again) and I'm crazy with their music. But, this video is my favorite. This version is awesome. Her voice is ... perfect.
Little History on Michael.. Original member of the Band the Runaways. Was the second vocalist along with Joan Jett. She left the band before they released there debut album. She was replaced by of course Cherrie Currie vocals and Jackie Foxx on Bass.
September Gurls was almost a totally Micki single... You can hardly hear the rest of them. Not that I have anything against it! :D Michael has the talent her songs were all amazing.
Especially before it was hip to drop the name. Notice how the audience doesn't react at all to hearing "Alex Chilton." Guaranteed almost nobody there ever heard of him or Bulig Star in 1986
Me too.I wish this dear girl the very bedt.May God kindly bless, and keep this dear girl well & safe along with her beloved pdts. She deserves the best, this dear birl. All my love, and God,s Blessings & Proection,my sweetMickie.
And this beautiful, (loved her sinve I was 14,..I am 38 now, and a musician myself) NEVER needs to look at her hands, as she walks this Bass, in so many gorgeous scales. SHE was the talent, Vicki the drive and the R&R baby,..Debbi,,.good solid drummer,..Susanna,..good voice in the mix of Harmony,..but um, what else??????
I think the Bangles' inclusion of September Gurls on Different Light did more for the resurrection of Big Star than anything else. Certainly for me, as an 80s kid, I had no idea who they were, but I had to look up this "A. Chilton" listed in the liner notes, and discovered the magic of Big Star (well actually some years later but still...)
Sadly no, The Bangles version was just another album track, never a single, never drew a lot of attention. There were always musicians who appreciated Big Star thru the 80's, but really it wasn't until REM made it huge late in the decade and kept talking about Big Star, along with other bands that were popular at the time such as The Posies and Teenage Fanclub(among many others) that there was really a big interest, leading to the re-releases(along with Chris Bell's solo work) and reunion. That said, The Bangles version of this was the first time I ever heard a Big Star tune in any form, and this is great
steve hardman Yeah I guess the song went way over the heads of most at time, and it wasn't really easy to research who wrote it before the web. I think for me it was Teenage Fanclub that brought it to my attention.
+steve hardman The Replacements did the song "Alex Chilton" on their fairly successful "Pleased to meet Me " (300,000+ sold) album...I think tit was the first single released from thtat record
Flipper85 Darn right they did. Every now and then you see a band pay back somebody who was an inspiration, and they actually got Alex to play guitar on the song Can't Hardly Wait too. Hopefully that caused a few people to discover AC and Big Star, just like the theme song from That 70's show did, or the opening of the film Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist got people to discover Chris Bell and Big Star. Hey, whatever works, just glad when people find it one way or another.
michael plays and sings wonderfull here, (as always). I think, with the nudge at the end she told Susanna :: "you did well. I am satisfied with your performance" 😊 :-)
Ulli Schuster she always gave Sue that nudge at the end of this song for some reason. I've seen other footage from concerts where she did this as well. Must have been a little secret thing to them.
Suzane Thomas excelente me encantan sus canciones y tiene una excelente voz. Cuando yo era adolescente me teñía el pelo de rojo ja jaa!!! Sigo escuchando su música. 🌟
Vocal and bassplaing by Steele - and in total; a perfect song... The Susanna's rhytm playing is really nice; her own beat on that strokes.....I suppose it - too - tells a lot of her character? ed
Michael is my favorite of the group. I think she was the most down to earth. Vicki is to hyper, too much soda. Debbie, she is a great drummer. Female version of Peter Criss
