forget the past, forget his skin color, forget his endorsements. Shut your eyes, and JUST LISTEN. I am a repulican US Marine. All I can say is, simply amazing.
I am old enough to remember Kennedy. I remember how inspired I was as a child. No one in politics has inspired me since then...until now at 57. "Hope is a thing with wings that lifts us high enough to see the truth." Bob Perks Barack, you are Hope...you are truth. "I wish you enough!"
After listening to this speech yesterday, I was left with an incredible feeling of unity for my fellow Americans, much as I did after 9/11. I am an American Black woman and my hope (also my name: Hope) is that we can lift each other up and truly understand that EVERY Americans' success ensures America's success. I am so tired of the racial divide in our country. It is time to talk, to listen, to understand, to respect and to move on...together. We are ONE. And I love ALL of my fellow Americans.
I'm a Brazilian, so lets say I'm writing as just an spectator. I'm so profoundly and impressed with Barack Obama that I wish I could vote for him. His speeches are inspirational and the idea of having him leading America is a strong sign of new times and prosperity, in the US and around the World. As an Human being, I'm proud to be witnessing this election. Andre
I would like to sit with my entire family. Wife and kids and listen to this.wow, Magnificently written, beautifully delivered. this guy has challenged me in an enormous way
I am crying while I type this comment. Barack spoke today on the behalf of a lot people who want change but don't know how. This message touched my heart and I pray that america will seriously look at what divide us. I believe every person in the USA should see this video. Change can happen! Change will happen!
One of the most profound speeches I have ever witness, it is time for change! I am inspired. Makes me want to go and join the movement... What am I waiting for!?
My hope is that people will take time to listen to the speech completely. It's a lot to ask for short attention span folk, but it makes a difference. He's earned the opportunity to be heard without edit and he doesn't disappoint. Excellent speech.
Obama , I am from India . I am very proud of you and America needs a person like you as President. The speech was pretty stunning . In addition to condeming the Pastors words the way you encourge your countrymen to Empathize with the "Black Experience" was really Amazing !! God bless you and my Prayers are with you . God Bless the World !
For the first time in U.S history , the question of race and its consequences in the non perfection has made a brilliant entrance in the Election Process. I sincerely hope that Obama will win . Not because he is african american but cause never would the message be more clear that America has decided to write a brand new page of its history . To my point of view the election of Obama as President of united States would definitly be the real beginning of the 21th Century as a new era
Whenever I think I'm too jaded to be moved, Barack gives another speech that gives me chills and makes me want to cry. He is a courageous man of conviction. He is truthful and honest and sincere. And he represents the best in all of us. ALL of us. I don't know that any one person can turn things around, but if anyone can, he can. God I hope he wins.
That was just the most amazing speech he's given thus far. 'A More Perfect Union' -- 'I Have A Dream.' Wow! If Obama doesn't become our next great president, I will surely be disappointed in the people of this nation. How can you not want this man to be our leader? GO-BAMA'08
After listening to this speech yesterday, I was left with an incredible feeling of pride and unity, much as I did after 9/11. I am an American Black woman and my hope (also my name: Hope) is that we can lift each other up and believe that your success does not come at the expense of my success. I am finished with the racial divide in our country. It stops NOW. It is time to talk, to listen, to understand, to respect and to move on...together. We are ONE. And I love ALL of my fellow Americans.
It is great to hear eloquence and nuance. These words speak of hope, dreams and how to achieve them. Nobody who did not spend a life thinking about these ideas could have written this, it is genuine and heartfelt.
I have NEVER been as proud as I am right now to be a Black American! This man has been ordained by God to lead this country. Obama has a spirit on him that is contagious and if you don't see that... then something is wrong with YOU! Phenominal speech!
Absolutely amazing, went straight to the root of the situation and ripped it right out. Barack is not afraid to stir up the muck that truly lies beneath all of our biases.....a true President
I echo what everyone has said here and I have to say that despite my loss of words following that speech, any my slightly teary-eyed state, I am even more inspired by people's comments and confidence in his strength, and intelligence. This generation is the dream and we're realizing it.
Thank you for posting the speech in its entirety. All I can say is wow, a very brave speech. Though I fear far more people will hear the Wright sound-bytes than actually listen to this speech in its entirety.
Brilliant, and more importantly, honest. In one sentence: "The racial misgivings are real, and arguably justified, but we have to choose whether to keep spinning it forever, or make an effort to end it."
"Barack is the first candidate in my lifetime to strip some of this b.s. away and I just hope we don't blow this chance. Man, if we miss this opportunity, we don't deserve it." - Win Butler (The Arcade Fire) I don't know how many times in the past I've heard people mention they want a president like Obama, only to retract their statement for an illegitimate reason. Win Butler reminds us all that Obama exemplifies what we are all looking for, and it would be a tragedy to blow this oppurtunity
This speech is the best speech on race that has been delivered, not surprisingly, by the most brilliant candidate we have had run for president in a very very long time. It is so timely and timeless.
Masterful, messianic, and professorial. A speech so powerful, I am rendered speechless. It should now be apparent to any fence sitting, equivocating voter who the most contemplative, diplomatic, and unifying candidate is. The future is now, and only through togetherness will it be realized -- by releasing fear's grip and extending an open hand (heart and mind) to our neighbors, we shall create "a more perfect union." Tremendous. Thank you. Mr. Obama.
His political courage is on par with his outstanding eloquence. He could have skirted the issue, but he dives right in and says things no other national politician has had the courage to say - and this in the middle of a political campaign. He is a miracle for this country.
What a blessing we have as Americans in this election: To finally say "No" to the politics of division, distortion, distraction, and fear -- to say "Yes" to the policies of unity, solution, truth, and hope. I look forward to doing my part to help President Obama create the more perfect union he so beautifully describes in this speech.
his intellectuality is incredible. he has an amazing way of using words to convey his inner thoughts and if I was old enough to vote I would have done it in a second.
Fal I couldn't have said it any better myself. What I find great about this speech and about how he approached this tough situations is beyond phenomenal. He quite possibly is the first politician I have seen that didn't denounce this man as a person but talked about as a friend and family which is touching imo. It's like you'r family you may not agree on everything said and done but denying them cause their ideals and avoiding their existance there of is nothing short of heartless Obama 08!
This is the only candidate I've known in my lifetime...whom I can see has a true passion for this position as president. His love for his country and the citizens can be seen in his eyes. I've never seen that before in any candidate of any position. Thank you Barack Obama.
Here I am with tears rolling down my face after listening to this speech. I hope everyone here has contributed to his campaign...i did. not much, but i did. but remember, it takes a big man to cry...but it takes an even Bigger man, to laugh at that man.
What a great Speech by Obama.. Hi, I am Waki Abdullah a 30 yr old male student from "Bangladesh" and I love Obama .... Obama my political mentor, the living legend and the best political leader ever seen in my lifetime. Notice I am a "Bangladeshi". Still I have contributed little amount for Obama campaign because he is possibly the best Hope for World Peace. GodBless Obama, America and the world.
He is such an inspiration; that's one of the most courageous thing I have ever seen a politician do. He challenges all of us..the genuine of that man is just ..... (didn't find the word yet)I'm speechless
Mr. Barack Obama is wise and smart. He is a very well educated man and he has the ability to bring Americans together for a higher purpose. I encourage everyone to join me in voting for Change we can believe in. With Barack's leadership Yes We Can, and Yes We Will.
As an American living overseas, in a homogenous society, where little is known about the outside world... I can still confidently talk about this man and have everyone agree with me. This man has GOT to win. The whole world is depending on this.
Oh, my god. I almost don't care that it was President Obama who made this speech--someone needed to! But I am totally thrilled that he DID make this speech. :)))) Thank you, sir!
wow! i gotta be honest- i usually don't listen to political speeeches because candidates seem to talk in boring circles but that was really inspiring. i actually wish it wsa longer lol
He recited this whole thing on his own. McCain would've recited it from a screen and would've screwed it up many times. Props to Obama for a great speech.
A lot has been said about his lack of expirence, but expirence is so overrated. He is the type of person that can tackle real issues in a cool, calm way. He carries himself like a president! This speech is an instant American classic!
Not just a President or a leader... but a true hero. Telling the truth. Owning your mistakes. Allowing for differences. Being calm under pressure. Being true to yourself. How badly we need a hero. It only takes one. The right one.
Brillant! Barack has done many great speeches, but this one is by far the best! it moved me, and strengthen my belief that he would make an excellent President! Obama 08!
My mother is black from Trinidad(slave trade, and Venezuela), my father white, from australia, my sister is married to an arab, the other a Canadian, and I Danish woman. I too attended the best schools in the US, and the middle east, and jakarta, and singapore. His story can happen everywhere not just the US. It was nice to finally hear about him from him, and from another like him, but I look very white, go on brother and get yours, you deserve the presidency. Just know there are more of us.
