Living in Germany, I watched the speech live on TV and I must say: Thanks for reminding us. Thanks for everything the United States of America did for us. I couldn't be here without you! Lots of Germans love to complain about their lives, but forget, where we would be without you. I'm deeply grateful for everything! For the future I'd like to see a even more deep and faithful relationship! Thanks America!
so glad you posted this! i printed the transcript yesterday and read it on the subway - i wanted to read/hear it without all the commentary from our friends in the media... so great - a wonderful, inspirational speech.
I'm from Germany. WE LOVE BARACK OBAMA! He gives us hope. Another period of a Bush-like president McCain would cause massive depression in Europe and around the world. So please, American people, vote for Barack Obama as President of the United States! Only then the world will love your country as we used to.
Thank you for posting the whole thing! i've been waiting to see/hear it all day (i missed it live) and have had a frustrating time trying to find a way to do so. Thanks again!
As a dual German-American citizen currently living in the U.S., I really got the global vibe from this speech that I could have never gotten from McCain. I'm homesick for both of my countries, and I hope Obama gives me at least one of them back.
I watched this live on the news today, and for the first time in my life I realized I was watching something that would go down in history. Future generations will come to talk of Barack and his ideals no matter the outcome of this race. But I still have hope, even from my home in Canada, I have faith in you Americans. Choose the right candidate. Vote Obama'08!
I am a European and i believed that i had lost all hope in American but this man and this speech has changed my mind. I truly hope that we wins the presidency and manages to help create a better world.
"People of Berlin - and people of the world - the scale of our challenge is great. The road ahead will be long. But I come before you to say that we are heirs to a struggle for freedom. We are a people of improbable hope. Let us build on our common history, and seize our common destiny, and once again engage in that noble struggle to bring justice and peace to our world" Sen. Obama, you are the new shining hope for peace and prosperity not just for America but the entire world.
my god, it is just surreal how incredible this guy is! is there any situation he can't conquer? (besides bowling!) it is apparent that even if he doesn't win the Presidency at this point, the world is open to this man and his ideas. I am in absolute awe, I can't believe he really exists! WOW is right danielkvs
I´m from Germany and I really hope this man gets elected. The world needs someone like this, so all you americans should go out and vote for this guy. After electing Bush for 8 years, you OWE us that. Peace.
Wow! What a phenomenal reception and what a terrific speech! This made me so proud, it brought tears to my eyes. I am soooooooooooo FIRED UP and READY TO GO!
You should always question the leaders and their decisions. You should never turn a blind eye out of hope, desperation or hate. Never take anything granted.
Politicians can & do lie.We all know that. But what you see here is something different. Obama,at the time of this vid, was just a senator running for Pres. Yet thousands in GERMANY showed up to hear him speak. You don't get that kinda support unless on some level you've been able to touch and affect alot of people on many levels. There's not been a politicians who's been able to do that in awhile. No the man isn't Messiah. But he certainly is inspirational. And that's amazing in and of itself.
This speech was beautiful. I practically cried. America would just be silly to not elect this man... say what you want about him. I think he's as honest as one can be in politics and that he's going to promise much of what he said he'll deliver. No one can be fully prepped and ready to be the President of the United States America... It takes some courage, innovation, and spirit... Obama really seems to have it.
Barack Obama is not only an inspiration and hope to Americans but also to us, the Rest of the WORLD. It is time for leaders like him around the world to rise and help bring peace to this WORLD.
200,000 citizens of the world went to watch him speak. It is so surreal. I hope he wins. Otherwise not only America will be disapointed, but Europe as well. A McCain can't get the following Obama has generated around the globe. I am a proud liberal/progressive American and citizen of the World voting for Obama in 2008 and 2012. In this day and age polititians can't just focus on their own country anymore, our interests are connected and should focus on the benefit of all people. OBAMA!!!
It should go without saying that a potential president should be intelligent, decisive, diplomatic, and well-spoken. Obama has all of these attributes. I've watched him on this tour he is doing, and I'm still taken aback by his ease and grace in any situation. He is truly remarkable, and will lift up this nation. When I see him and hear him speak, I feel my cynicism slipping away. We need him in this world. If we don't make him our next president, we will have nobody but ourselves to blame.
Obama didn't only speak as a citizen. In Berlin (and other counties) he also spoke as politican who runs an election campain. Anyway, I hope that Obama will win.
Obama doesn't seem to be reading from a tele-prompter or from a written speech before him. I think it's very impressive that he can believe so much in his ideals that he just knows it and doesn't have to be told them.
Hey! First: I'm german and before I saw the first 5 minutes of this speech Barack Obakma got me. Before I thought that he is unsympathic and I was for HIlary Clinton. But he has such a big character and personality! It's awesome! I hope that he becomes the president for long time without accidents like good4 american presidents before! For example J.F.K! I think he can and will change many things! Greetz from Germany P.S. To look this speech was a part of my homework ;-)
I am european living in USA and I can say that Obama is the only way to go. American people need to wide open they eyes. No more "Bush business" please! Vote Obama!
i hate how people say he has no substance behind his words and that he will do nothing. In my mind if he has a good staff behind him he can chage the world becuase this guy inspires people. As soon as he opens his mouth he makes you want to listen to what he will say
Four years later, I'm crossing my fingers once more for the American people to make the right choice for their country, as well as for the rest of the world. Obama 2012!!
Stop hating on Obama. You can have a rock band to brign them in, but you can not make them stay once the band is over with. People stop hating on Obama. Look at his 2004 DNC speech. he wrote that speech
Some could hate his race, background or friends but you cant hate his vision for the future. He is indeed an inspiration for not only americans but the entire world and this speech has solidified that. I know he will be the next president. I am so blessed to be alive and attentive during the rise of his leadership and legacy. I wasn't alive to witness the immediate influence that Abe Lincoln,FDR,JFK or MLK had on our country, but i am able experience his. This is history in the making
Its Very Noble for him to be spreading his view and message not just to America, but the world. As America is a country that effects the world, even though I'm Australian, I spread my message to americans on visit here to vote for him!!! Where ever I travel, Id like to go to visit a country that makes effort in understanding where I'm from, shows equality & effort to understand world views. My love for America can be given, & by all, not just an American patriot. UNITE THE WORLD BARACK OBAMA!
Mr. Obama, you have been brilliant, resourceful and altogether inspirational. May God bless you as you near the end of this tremendous journey. Thank you for taking the dreams of so many, and carrying them with you every day. Obama will make history in November.
*Applause* The world needs Obama. No other serious contender for the White House carries his message. Obama's been carrying this message for years. We love you Obama!
I was there (I'm a Berlin native) and I can tell you that almost nobody was there for the rock concert. I guess most didn't even know there would be a programm before Obama speaks. Make no mistake they came to hear Obama, not for something else...
Obama is new and a breath of fresh air. Mccain is old and has confessed on many occasians his lack of knowledge on how to find the on button on a computer. I don't know about you but, I want a president that know what is going on today and can operate in today's world not the world of 30 years ago.
Dear Mr. Obama, I am really amazed by your speach in Berlin! Shall all the good thoughts you have spread all around. Shall your wish to change the world become true. All the best for your!
Thats kind of wrong. His staff organized a small concert so people who came 4 or 5 hours early in order get a good view, were entertained for their efforts. I'm pretty sure there weren't 200t people though.
I think the rest of the world sees that America is truly becoming a diverse nation. I'm a republican but I will be voting for Obama, hopefully he puts together a great team together that can truly change America, because we need strong leadership. California, my home state needs strong leadership as well!
this speech ranks in my opinion as one of the best if not the best speech given by Mr Obama..... for your country and the rest of us around the world Sir, please go and win this election. For freedom, for liberty, for a better tomorrow, please LET THERE BE CHANGE
Although he doesn't write every speech, he has written many of the most memorable ones, and two bestselling books as well. His speechwriter has said "It's like being Ted Williams' batting coach." I agree with you that it should be a top priority to support our troops, but I also think that giving the finger to our European allies is not what is going to make us safer. This speech is about working together for the common good, which is Obama's whole message.
How can anyone watch this and deny he has the charisma to bring America's reputation back. I bet old man McCain is having a hard time sleeping at night.
I have been an Obama supporter since the beggining, and yet I continue to be shocked and amazed by the incredible things that he is doing. In a world where light seems to be vanishing all too quickly, Obama is a beacon of hope. I would love to see Bush give a speech even remotely like this.
