I remember watching this live with my brother. After the speech, I had a weird feeling and said, "Wow. I really think this guy may win the nomination. And probably the presidency." And my brother responded, "Are you kidding me? A black guy will never win." 10 months later, needless to say, he was eating crow.
This moment in history was amazing in and of itself. To think that we have come from this speech to actually winning the election is still overwhelming.
I remember this speech. I was crying and even my boyfriend at the time cried a couple tears. I said “That was a great speech! Someone who gives a speech like that is who we need to win the general election!” So we went to the computer and sent him some money. He is so charismatic. He made a few mistakes, like he should have declared the Flint, Michigan water crisis a national emergency, and sent in crews to replace all the pipes. That would be an infrastructure project that created jobs too. Instead he drank the water, and everyone’s heart sank. But he did so much good in office. He really made America a better place in many ways. For example, if you talk to a dreamer, you will immediately see that of course this person is American! Of course they deserve to stay forever.
I was there also. I was an excited 18-year-old who had heard his 2004 DNC speech and wanted to see this man be president. We have come so far. I am so proud of us. So proud. Let's bring it home!
I respect him a lot not just because he is the president but because the way he inspires us and he is one of among those few who i wish to meet before i die and want to talk to him.
@@jamesw288 years later and you will never find research studies that “prove” global warming is a hoax without small companies like Exxon Mobil and BP funding them. I mean what reason would these small mom and pop petroleum businesses have to fool people like you?
@@pattyamato8758 yep. It's sad that there are some people here in the United States that want a lying, corrupt, domestic terrorist and racist criminal in the White House. I for one am looking forward to seeing and hearing Donald Trump get indicted and arrested by the FBI.
2007 seems like an eternity ago. I was 18 when this was uploaded. Seeing Obama before the stress of the presidency took its toll on him is rare. He actually had dark hair here lol.
That was a beautiful amazing happy 8yrs.with the one and only the best and the great President Barack Obama..and now the person squatting in the Oval Office is a disaster in America and the whole world.. love and miss you and family President Obama❤❤❤
@@tominrochester nah, Sam's kinda right though. Obama was a good speaker, yes. But I didn't like it how his administration treat our friends in Syria and Libya. I wouldn't wish at all to have this man in office again in 2020. And I say that as someone who was a proud voter of him in 2008 and when it was a pretty thrilling experience seeing that the first black man came into office.
@@ikidu1102 That's your main gripe- foreign policy decisions in Libya and Syria? And that's enough for you to consider him a bad president? Seriously? LOL... Hey- at least he didn't incite a riot on the Capitol Building, so there's that...
@@tominrochester First off, very bad timing to make that comparison. What happened at the Capitol Building are dumb rioters, mainly boomer manchildren who can't accept the fact that they lost the election and still keep repeating the lines of an idiot in office who also can't accept he lost the election and is no longer President. That's not even closely comparable to actual war crimes committed against civilians who are drone-striked to death. But I can agree that what Trump did was absolutely unforgivable and it's time he finally leaves office. But again, pulling another fallacy, specifically the "whataboutism" fallacy, won't strenghten your point though. Now, back to topic: Obviously foreign policy isn't the only reason that makes Obama a bad president to me lmao, but nice try though deflecting and pulling that straw men argument. (and just a reminder: Show a bit more respect to the victims in Syria and Libya; And another reminder: horrible foreign policy decisions that cost thousands of innocent lives *definitely* is actually major point to make to rate the legacy of a President. It definitely isn't the only one, but a major one. It also reveals easily what a man says and preaches to believe and what he actually does afterwards) I have and had many friends in Syria, where I actually knew around 6 people who died in drone strike attacks which were directly ordered by the Obama administration. And that was a very big deal for me actually and no it's not just "collateral damage" as inhumane and sociopathic people like to call it. There were no warnings, no evacuation attempts, nothing. They were just gone in a matter of seconds. But problem solved, right? Unbelievable... They were very important to me, they were my friends. Some even lost their family and live alone now. And you downplaying and relativizing such horrific acts of war (which could have been solved differently btw) and comparing it with a dumb riot and really bad coup d'état (or whatever that was) event organized by Trump and his stupid deluded boomer voters who can't accept a loss is very insulting and you should be ashamed of yourself for even bringing up that bad comparison. This also tells me already everything I need to know about you. No self-reflection, no empathy for human life, probably even a sociopath. If I'm wrong about you, then excuse me. But seriously, your statement was very insulting. At least show some empathy and respect to the victims in Syria and Libya. (and the many other victims in other countries the US still keeps warmongering in) The clown show that happened at the Capitol Building is not even closely comparable to real war, buddy. And I hope you quickly realize that soon enough. The world isn't the US. But your answer doesn't surprise me at all, as it's a typical Two-Party answer. Democrats and Republicans happen to be very inhumane people during their time of reign and won't hesitate ordering a drone strike, taking your rights away step-by-step, lobbys still having a major influence in congress, etc. except when election day comes near. Then all of a sudden they're all for peace, change, love and union. Only to incite another war once they start their term. It wasn't different under Bush, Obama or Trump. And it won't be different under Biden. You do you though. But honestly, everyone who still votes for either of both parties seriously needs to get their brains checked. That's just my take on it. Yes, I was a fool and a strong supporter of Obama back then in 2008. I believed in true change for a moment, especially because seeing a man with the same skin color like me for the first time in history becoming President. I thought: If this was possible after black people have been oppressed for so long, then anything was possible I naively believed. But I grew, I learned and saw things aren't that easy. And populist ideas, may they come from a Democrat or Republican, will never help us advance any further in society. I get that populist ideas and great speeches (like Obama's speeches) kinda bear the charm of simplicity and charisma, but they don't solve the actual problems. And this is what Dems and Reps still do not seem to understand. They just keep going with that rhetorics of change, freedom, guns, etc. whatever it is. But in the end, they just keep continuing their old fashioned style of feeding the military-industrial-complex, paying aid to Israel and not condemning the violence done against Palestinians by the Israeli military, or keep upholding very outdated traditionalist ideas that need a serious reform. If you actually read my comment 'till here, then good job. Most people I talk to can't even make it to this point, because apparently they don't want to read "all of this text" but still want to engage in politics xD (I wonder how these people want to read novels) I wish you a nice day.
itumblers If want someone to support your idea's as one of the most amazing Congressman from the state of South Carolina Trey Gowdy in a summary you will not gain their support by attacking them by name calling and hardening their heart and ultimately their ears. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Our country is better than this, please you can disagree with someone in a respectful manner!
Joel Muriuki Obama won because of a man name George W. Bush. If Hillary Clinton or John Edwards were the democratic nominee they would of won on election night 2008 because of Bushes legacy. George W. Bush is part of black history, black history month.
Dragon Quest i It would been the same just like Obama regardless of race, and gender. Hillary Clinton 44th President of The United States of America 2009-2017. Barrack Obama 47th Vice-President of The United States of America. Clinton-Obama 2009-2017. And you know what I would say if Hillary Clinton won the presidency, because of George W. Bush legacy. Hello! Don't you remember what happened in 2001-2009? We were better off with Al Gore being our 43rd President of The United States of America. 2001-2009. What if? What if Al Gore was our 43rd President of The United States of America? 2001-2009?
HOW can anyone ever forget this wonderful moment!! No words can express the feelings 💖 My whole sleeping patterns changed cause I followed your campaign, prayed untill 2016! Still praying for you& you're family's protection. 2021🙏🙏💃💃💥💥🌟🌟👍💕💕💞💞💙💙💙❣️❣️🌍🌍
Man, if we could have him serve so many terms!!! He and his family and his words made us feel hope. To know only two terms man that’s an injustice!! Obama rocked us as Americans why can’t everyone see it!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
It’s taking me forever to read this amazing historical memoir bc I keep going back to view these incredibly hopeful moments of a better time...here’s hoping for a redux with Biden/Harris in 2021. We deserve to feel proud of our nation again.
Crying even now because of the Audacity of Hope and a Man and his family who changed the world. I miss him and the First Lady and the kids and the dogs. It was a time...such a time. Glad I got to live through it. Blessed.
+The Video Game Database (VGDB) Almost certainly doesn't. It's practically a miracle this one exists. When Obama announced his campaign, almost nobody had ever heard of him outside of Illinois. (And some, like myself, who had watched the 2004 Democratic National Convention remembered him.) He stood almost NO CHANCE of winning the nomination. (Which was the real battle. The Democrats were going to win no matter which of the two major candidates won the nomination.)
+OfficialMarcos'sVideos that's one improvement - the tech boom. Facebook, Twitter. And the iPhone becoming the World's most marketable brand due partly to the same trade policies Trump bashes everyday. Another? - the Stock Market bounce back, that tech contributing to this as well. One more, just for fun? The auto industry boom. The cherry on top of the mini cherry - the lower gas prices. Mic drop
The day of his inauguration was such a special day. There was so many exited people that filled the streets that day. It didn't matter if you were left or right it was a gr8 day in America that day
Democrats are the Majority in the Senate! sorry, you don't know what your talking about. He always does what he wants to -using Executive Order! He has managed to destroy the American Dream! That's why our country is a mess and especially unsafe- because of: Barack Hussein Obama! -a Sunni Muslim liar- who supports the Muslim Brotherhood! Wow! he's just peachy!
As a seventeen year old, you should know that they're not all white men in our government. I don't know who told you that:( Don't believe everything you hear. You have a world of knowledge at your command- the Internet:) It would be good for you to do some reading;) Obama is a lying Sunni Muslim/ atheist/ devil worshiper, sociopath, Anti- American, Communist terrorist! There are "no" good words for him or to describe him! Sorry to see that you are being mislead, as many are..although some are even confessing lately that they voted for him, and regret this. He is destroying America, and only cares about money, and his fellow Sunni Muslims here and in the Middle East! If you're around anyone that says good things about Obama..Run!
Ok i know what i m talking about you sir dont know what you believe in talking about obam being muslim telling me ''do not believe what they tell me." Its people like you that truley confuse this country with stupid conspiracy theorys. I like the president you should be proud to be alive at this time because he will now be in American history forever and you cant do anything about it...
Ismael Diaz Yes indeed.. as THE WORST, and only! -Anti American, conniving, manipulating, arrogant, lying, do nothing, self-serving, greedy with the tax payer's money- a Bloodsucking Tyrant of a President!.. and that's how he'll go down in History-buddy;) and I'm not a "sir" silly. Be proud to live in this time??? Don't you have a clue that this is the worst time since the Depression! This is the first time we've had such Evil around us! You didn't have the pleasure of living in the 50's,60's and 70's.. All we have now is our hope and prayers to comfort us. Obama wants a one government America, and World. He refuses to uphold our Constitution and protect the American people. This, will be his downfall in the end!
compare this announcement to the dozens of people Trump had to hire to stand in the atrium of a mall!!! ahahahaah. The connections to Lincoln, the active crowd (unpaid to be there), and the uplifting (not we're doomed) tone.
I pray that our brave nation can understand the essence of this man and not stigma one may have about his skin color. As an 8yr US Marine Corps veteran I would follow him with much conviction!!
I was one of the few who believed in Obama from the beginning. (Everybody says this, but in this case, it's the truth.) I introduced my parents to him (it was his concession speech in New Hampshire [yes we can] that finally won my father over completely) and I got them to vote for him in the primary. No question they would vote for him in the election; I didn't have to lobby there. No, we didn't get everything we wanted. But we got a damn sight more than we would have if any Republican had been elected. (Unless John McCain had been elected and then died of a heart attack. The inability of Sarah Palin to form a coherent sentence in the English language [due to her lack of sentience] would have rendered her relatively ineffective, and left things in the hands of Democrats in congress.)
No, you didn't. If you really believe in Obama's message and not voted for him just to cover your own insecurities, you would see that he's accomplished about 85-90% of what he sat out to do. And nobody gets 100% done. It's not possible all you can do is push for change and work on as much as possible.

I absolutely love this president. He's accomplished so much even in the face of the worst recession of our time and white house obstruction. He is incredible
The most educated President of the United States of America!!!! And that hurts for a lot of ppl. Specially the first Handsome African American!!!love him!!!!
I was at wasaw, studying. After watching this I was convinced of that this guy going to be the next president . His eyes were telling tht he was already seeing tht happening. What happend after his election, 2008, has never been seen before. It was joy accross the world.
Did you think it would be easy? Maybe you were not paying attention its about us to carry it forward and make the choices that will bring about a change. We know he ran into the great wall of bigotry and division from day one...but if you actually investigate he did more than you thought he could ...more than they thought he would without support from his own party most of the time. He was no coward and every stumbling block they put before him he prevailed.
I don't know your life or struggle but you could benefit from hearing the truth. Educate yourself and look past your bigotry and see where you could possibly educate yourself.
+Diane Johnson I have educated myself enough I know that he has taken thousands of jobs away and made our country a socialist state and he has had thousands die for his war that he said he would bring the soldiers back and that was he reason he got elected more stuff he has done is that he has dozens of gun regulations and has put us in TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DEBT and he has openly said he doesn't like Christians and plus his father was a Muslim and I could keep going but yes I have educated myself
We were reluctant because we didn't think he could win the Democratic Party's nomination because of our nation's racial history, and we were afraid he was in imminent danger of being assassinated.
