You are very forgiving about the not- so-subtle differences between the repro and the original. The lip paint on the 1-5 dolls was much fuller and slightly overdrawn (and gorgeous in my opinion), and the hair continues to be a challenge for Mattel. The bangs are better but NOT right, and the color is nowhere near the original Titian. Glad they are trying to satisfy collectors, but Mattel has the archives and financial resources to make these Silkstones perfect!
So glad I came across your channel-love seeing others find joy in Vintage Barbie. I learned something new watching this video-your knowledge of Barbie and fashion is incredible and I look forward to watching more content from your channel!
Yes, I ordered her shortly after she appeared on the website, Im sure glad I did, I didnt think she would be sold out so quick, same goes for the black Francie, I sure didnt think she would disappear, be sold out. Its great that both did so well, Hopefully that will get Mattel to approve more of Bills repro designs
Great Review! She is stunning and as a vintage collector myself you are absolutely right about the materials used in the reproduction versus the original vintage pieces and it includes all parts of the process of creation from selection of material and construction. I am seriously thinking about this "Fiery" girl, I have a #4 as well and surely she would'n mind having a silkstone incarnation side by side. Thank you so much for an Honest and Pleasant Experience. PEACE🙏
Thanks for another beautiful review. I bought her for quite a sum and hoped I would get another one for less - alas to no avail, however I am still Ok that I bought the mine for a bit too much. Looks like they did well and I can see why - love her a lot. Thet black marks - I usually replace the black ribbons by white - whyever they choose black ribbons to tie the dolls in.
I love her red hair. I did not make the connection that the ties created the black marks! That makes sense. I’ll have to find some nice satin white ribbons to replace mine too
Great video. Just found your channel on here. I am a huge Barbie fan and collector. This one sold out very fast. I didn’t have any chance to get her from Mattel. Please continue these same kind of videos on the various Barbies again I haven’t looked at your other videos, but I like your channel. Happy Holidays!
Can't comment on the reproduction but in so many cases, unlike the other Barbie Mattel fashions of the time, After Five was often a little ill fitting with a wider waist than was necessary. For some reason the AF dresses were not uniformly sewn. But close enough...
I really like her. But, there are things that throw me off a little bit. Mine had a defect on the nose, a « resin » bubble on her upper lip and some flecks of red paint on her cheek. They seem to do the backwards ponytail curl with those, most likely to fit better in the box, but it really disrupts the final product in my opinion. The promo pics are always super flawless while the final hairstyle leaves something to be desired. The quality inspections are really done hastily it seems if done at all. They seem to try to cheapen out on the outfits and accessories, since I’ve noticed in the latest reproductions some plastic snaps on the clothes instead of metal ones (it’s cheaper most likely) And the cheap plastic earrings really show in my opinion where the repro line is heading. There will be fewer releases and more and more stinginess in the quality of accessories and quantity of them. Im hoping for a midge silkstone repro in 2023 since it will be Midge’s 60th anniversary! But on a positive note awesome video as always !!
@@somelikeitvntg I though about it, but in person it’s not THAT visible. I found out about those issues when I looked at her under magnification. And since I’m in Canada it does take a long time to receive a new doll. So I chose to keep her, but I will have her hair restyled and makeup defects fixed by an artist based in California
I feel that. Quality control is to be desired for sure. I would be scared to look at everything through a microscope haha. I hope we get a silkstone midge too!
@@somelikeitvntg i am a new comer when it comes to collecting Silkstone Barbie, just started a few months ago.I am hooked and my wallet is crying😂😂😂.I will slowly build up my collection, maybe buy one each month, just get the one within my budget.I would not spend more than $600.
I wish I could find these Barbie's online, I can't find any nice vintage clothes either. Does anyone know where I can get Barbie's like the one in the video? 🙂
I only have one articulated silkstone barbies by Robert Best. The articulated silkstone is much skinnier that the reproduction silkstones. Not sure about the original Robert Best silkstones
@@somelikeitvntg Hi, The original Robert Best silkstone is exactly the same height as the articulated ones, but of course like you mentioned the articulated silkstones are much skinnier. My bubble cut is much shorter in height, and I was wondering about the height of the Barbie After 5. Sorry I should of asked about the height and not the size. Thanks
@@emilieworksinchanel The Silkstone vintage height should all be the same since it is made from the same mold and naturally a little shorter than the Robert Best Silkstone, IMO The Best Barbies (non articulated) ever after the vintages.
Míle buíochais ☘️ 🇮🇪 A thousand thanks 😊. I have a repro blonde barbie in the black and white swim suit and waiting to receive the brunette 35 year barbie you did a review of . Was never into Barbie but the vintage ones really interest me now .
@@somelikeitvntg Don't she is supposedly one of the most valuable Barbies ( and the most collectible Google it A few years ago it was worth $1069 I kept that one in the box I dress up my Lucy's Italian Movie Lucy doll because she was only $10( mind you this was 1999 and she was coming off the run at Walmart
