POLICE believe the body found on the rocky coast of the Greek island of Symi is missing TV doctor Michael Mosley.
A spokesperson told The Sun they had identified his body using his watch and clothes close to a dangerous cave complex known to locals as "The Abyss".

I am Greek and every year I'm visiting our islands. I can't stand how many tourists are sitting in the sun around 13:00-17:00, it's EXTREMELY dangerous !!! I understand that many of them live in countries without sunshine, but PLEASE don't do that. Water, hat, SPF, shadow. You can enjoy the beaches early in the morning or after 17:00. I'm very sad for Michael Mosley. This beautiful island became his last place. R.I.P.

You local people have learned from a young age how to behave in such a hot climate. Many foreigners like us British think our summers are hot and assume those conditions are the same as yours when are definitely not. The sad thing is, Dr Mosley was an educated man and a doctor and had enough medical knowledge to understand it was dangerous.

it's so very sad. As an Aussie you know you don't walk around in that heat...the thing with heatstroke is it catches up with you and there's no 'saving' someone once they get to a certain level of heatroke anyway... we don't know why he made the wrong turn or didn't turn around and what he was thinking - but he was a nice bloke and it's heartbreaking that he nearly made it to help and shade etc. He said he wasn't feeling well when he took off to start with. We never know when it's our last day. so bizarre and so sad. he had so much more to offer the world.

Old Aussie woman here. Few years ago, when I was same age as Dr Mosley, I got heat stressed after chasing the neighbours sheep out of my garden. About 30C, rushed out without my hat or phone, moving quickly over rough ground getting all the stragglers, then had to fix hole in the fence, before trying to walk back home. I was OK until suddenly I wasn't... felt dizzy and nauseous, head spinning, the ground swaying beneath my feet. Luckily i got to a tree and lay down in the shade, where I stayed for 30 minutes, then crawled on all fours back to my hayshed and a a water tap. Had a drink, soaked my clothing and hair, then managed to stagger to the house. It happened so quickly. That poor man... can only hope the end was quick.

He may have become confused in the heat. I myself was badly affected when walking back to my hotel in the Netherlands a few years ago (the temperature was 40C). Luckily I was able to sit in the shade until I felt well enough to continue walking to the nearest shop, which happened to be air conditioned. After five minute in the cool shop I was able to walk the rest of the way to my hotel. I am very careful now.

There was a statement from his wife saying he took the wrong route. He had water, a hat and umbrella and the route he had planned was not a long distance or on difficult terrain. No phone, no water, no information on where he was going. He was on the beach of St. Nicholas and went to Agia Mariana, where no one was waiting for him. Why did he do that? he made it to the first point, but took a wrong turn at that point, instead of going left he went right.... he was probably just not thinking straight or not familiar with the route or whatever. he was with friends and wife so probably thought he didn't need his phone - their plan was to go to the beach then head back before leaving, together. I also never go outside between 1 am-4am, but sometimes when on a day excursion is not always that one can choose where they let you off. But I also think people in Northen Europe need more education regadring heat, we are not used to knwledge.

Very sad ending, R.I.P Mr Mosley. People forget how dangerous the terrain is then add in the heat, never travel alone & always carry a phone or some type of communication device so you can call for help. I see it all the time especially tourist taking unnecessary risk without consulting the locals first, a walk might not sound dangerous but there is no shame asking a local before setting off on your little adventures, if he asked a local this unfortunate sad disaster could have been avoid & always stay on the paths.

The cameraman found him. In the boat with the mayor filming. They notified these guys to check, what it was. @@alanjohn9789 it's called Greek news malaka'. Also hiking and living in Greece. You can smell a decomposing body with or without a light breeze, and that is just a rat, hedgehog, cat, sheep, goat. In another article they mentioned they did a perimeter check the day before, but did not see him, as he was in a crevice creek. So certainly they would have smelt it. In another article, one rescuer said they could smell the body on approach. Many news sites, reporting false news.
