In this video I clean the interior on the barn find Skoda.
This has not been done for at least 25 years... Its dirty and moldy, but It seems to be like new under all the dirt!
Also it has been pointed out that the engine sounds to be running on 3 cylinders, and to investigate that I do a compression test on the engine...
Is the engine any good still?

I always thought that these cars were unfairly criticized. They were usually very reliable and totally acceptable for their low low price. Yours is superb.

I do not have a garage so my restoration project was put on hold since the end of November because of the winter weather. Visited the car today and found a mouse had been living inside. So another bonus point for you and the Škoda. Along with the "no" rust you can add no rodents. Luckily there is little damage, just some chair stuffing removed and shredding of newspapers and plastic bags which were begin used for storage of nuts of small parts.

Ive found some rodent trace under the engine tray actually... but so far no damage... Its unbelievable how much destruction such small critters can make!

Very exciting to follow the progress. This car appears to be in amazing condition, considering the age and history!

Love your channel so far, I wish I had found you sooner! You have a lot of interesting projects! I only have 3 myself (Audi A8 D2 4.2L V8, MB W202 C180 and W124 250D). Also, the reason the steering wheel (and seat belts) grow a lot more mold is because that is where you tend to put your hands and leave invisible films of fat and other body products.

Wow! That floor is nice! That door-hinge looks solid, like a door hinge... Those seats look tidier than... than... than... 170psi? You lucky bastard! In the poems of old, tales of Skodas were told, they weren't gentle & brave, they were slower than mould... [verse 2] [chorus] [verse 3] [chorus] etc... (Maybe I'll finish this, if you finish that)

I get hooked on your videos, because your favourite cars seem to be similar to mine. I had there Trabants 601 and three Wartburgs (353/ 353 Tourist/ 1.3), and I remember a Wartburg dealer in Bramminge on our way to our Holiday resort. A little hint on cleaning: use two buckets, get clean water/ fluid from one, Clean and rinse the cloth in the other buckets. So you only foul one bucket and only use clean fluid on the Surfaces😉😁
@SeasideGarage
@SeasideGarage Год назад
I dont have the patience or cars with good enough paint to make double buckets necessary :P But yea it would maybe be wise to do. I need to get a wartburg one day!

I'm really enjoying this series. I would have been very surprised if there was a problem on compression test, it can only really be HT lead or at worse the distributer cap. It's an awesome car and if it needs a clutch I wouldn't think it would be a difficult job. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Yeah... I know someone who bought an old Twingo via my ex (the original owner was some friend of my ex) and they complained bitterly how the car reeked of smoke and wet dog. It only cost 100 Euros though and was in reasonable shape, apart from needing a new clutch and a lot of cleaning.

Its going to be too nice for a daily driver, specially inside ! i hope you will use some rust proofer on it to help preserve it, its a lovely car. I bought a mk1 escort that had come from Hungary (i am in the uk) and tried to preserve as much of the original car as possible, a couple of years later i have had to change the leads !
@SeasideGarage
@SeasideGarage 3 года назад
That is exactly how I would like to revive this one... not to many new parts and getting as much of the old to work :) I am going to rust proof it though... :)

Those cars can be described as crude yes, but they're effective, I keep reciting my dad's one, but it never missed a beat, only mechanical thing I recall going wrong was the choke cable breaking as I'd previously reminisced about, it just did what it was built to do, be a car, and it did it well... :)
@SeasideGarage
@SeasideGarage 3 года назад
Crude is really not always a bad thing... not in my eyes at least.. :) The simplicity also makes the issues less common and easyier to fix... Like a 2cv that it seems like you know something about! ;)
@twocvbloke
@twocvbloke 3 года назад
Simplicity is something I appreciate indeed, and the 2CV is the epitome of it (and is where my heart is when it comes to classic cars!), where you can unbolt body panels and get to where you need to be for service or repair, or drop the engine & transmission with a few bolts to work on it with ease, versus having to dismantle an entire front end just to get to a small component like modern cars are these days... :)
@SeasideGarage
@SeasideGarage 3 года назад
@@twocvbloke I totally agree.... I really like the 2cv... I also owned and restored a Mehari once... that is the essence of simplicity.. :)
@twocvbloke
@twocvbloke 3 года назад
The Mehari is a fun looking derivative, there's even a company making new electric versions of them too (which has been tested by HubNut here on youtube), but the 2CV is the one I love the most, it's quirky, fun and looks so different to anything out there today... :D
@SeasideGarage

@@twocvbloke Yea I saw that! Actually I like the 2cv more also, mostly because its more usable.... But on a sunny day a mehari is wonderful !... :) I need to get a 2cv again soon..... ;)

that car is in amazing condition for that years old and they always were bomb proof and even if you have to do the clutch dead easy the engine comes out the back on a trolley so easy to work on no computers or silly electronics just basic mechanics they dont make them that easy anymore

@@SeasideGarage they are simple engineering as you have discovered and with a bit of work that car can be back on the road at not that much cost and apart from a few unusual design flaws were a very reliable car and they didnt rot away to nothing as you see from that one you have
@Ragnar8504
@Ragnar8504 3 года назад
@@stephenramsden9955 They're still all gone here. I think I've only seen one of them on Austrian plates in my entire life and that was almost 20 years ago. Even across the border in Czechia and Slovakia they're nowhere near as common as they used to be. In 2004 I met a Czech chap driving his dad's dark red 120 LS around. He stashed his booze behind the rear seat's back rest :-D

@@Ragnar8504 they are very rare and in my country the united kingdom ther were hundreds or thousands of them on the road back in the 80s but all gone now and you never see one now and i had one as a budget car and did 97 000 miles in it from new and it never failed me once and so easy to maintain if you had good mechanical knowlege and not any complicated things on them just basic and its great for someone to find one especially in good condition

i believe you stop to early the starter test for the compression, the cylinder 2 was on his way up to 170 to.To me the spark plugs are way way way too black and to finish how lucky you are for the seats.. i guess you are the only one owner of straight new skoda seats : ) felicitation
@SeasideGarage
@SeasideGarage 3 года назад
Yea I could maybe have gone for a bit more...But the result is really good! The plugs are black (not the 3 cylinder) because the engine has only been running for a max of 2 min. with full choke on so it is over fueling and fouling the plugs.... :) Hehe yea! Im so lucky!
