This is the new project on Seaside Garage.
Its a Skoda 105 S (Estelle)
Its been off the road for 21 years and have not been started for ages.
Its apparently a very low mileage car and could really be a rare find!
In this video I set out to get it running, or asses the engine condition.
Its a real Barn find... Its been in a barn since the late 90´s and just came out of it a couple of months ago.... I pick it up in the snow on the isle of Funen.

I'm so pleased you saved this car from the crusher. With so few kilometers and such little rust, that car has many kilometers of service left in it.

It was really a very old new car

I was trained as a mechanic on these exact cars, in all its variations. I am sure you are aware of it, but just e few pointers: Remember to bleed the cooling system the right way. There is only one right way. Get it wrong and goodbye headgasket. When trying to cold start, be genorous with the choke. Full choke, 8-10 pumps on the acceleratorpedal and let go of it. Turn the key. They will start everytime. I love you are doing this. Those cars weren't as bad as some tried to make them out to be. I owned 3 myself. most fun cars I owned. And have owned a lot of different cars.

Thanks for the tips! :) I do believe its bleed right... It seems to run well and keep cold. :)

I use to work on one of these cars in 1986 the body work was a bit rough but the engine was reliable here in the Uk most people made fun of skoda but u could pick o.e up cheaply now they must become a classic from the 1980s I an a subscriber and I just seeing these old cars bought back to life has I worked on older cars from 1980suntil now so great chanel Love it we want more Phil in stoke in the UK

I remember from my childhood seeing all of them running about... now they are gone... I really like to bring these kinds of cars back on the road.. One thing is the history, another thing is the memories they bring us... Its really valuable in my opinion... Many more will come im sure! Thanks for watching Phil!

It's also my first car in 2007 :) Yeah, it was lots of fun and enginnering :D I added digital speedometer to it. Its great advantage were extremely cheap original parts.

I can remember my Uncle having a blue one in the 80's. It was a quirky car in the UK and considered very much a poor man's vehicle. I can remember it being a lot more reliable than most other cars in the family! Unfortunately, he set fire to it when welding it one year. Thank you for bringing the memories back!

Its a real underdog... way better then what people thought of them... But still weird and quirky for sure! Thanks for watching!

Clutch is hydraulic. Master cylinder is in the front and slave cylinder is in the back on top the gearbox. Probably a stuck cylinder. Nice to see it run and to see your enthusiasm! Fuel gauge is probably stuck. Happens after sitting for a long time. Some gentle ticking on the dash will help 😉 in the fuel pump and in the carburetor as well are sieves. Maybe good to check them.
@SeasideGarage

Thanks! Ill check it out.... hope its a stuck cylinder! would be much easier then a clutch! ;)

Aside from the blowing exhaust, it sounds as I remember my dad's Estelle, just make sure the choke cable is in good condition, I remember the one in my dad's car snapping, and having to trawl through various scrapyards to find a good cable off another car (which I loved, cos I always picked through parts of the car where people left or lost money, which was fun!!!), and in the interim had to fit a temporary cable from something else that was front-engined and it ended up poking out the middle of the back seat, all just to keep it going as a daily driver... :D

Great to hear it running. If it was like my 120LS then clutch is hydraulic to a slave cylinder on the bell housing. If I remember correctly if you lift the carpets next to the battery then there is an access panel - remove that and you should be able to see the slave cylinder and bell housing. That then operates the mechanical lever arm that pushes the clutch release bearing. Personally to sort out the clutch I would leave the transmission in the car and just separate the engine and remove the engine out of the rear.

Would be my idea too. But I think that’s not even necessary.

I was looking forward to this video and what is going to happen to it lol I actually enjoy more the little fixes to improve a car rather than big restoration, or maybe even when people "flip cars" (ie fix to make small profit) I also like the way you explain and go about filming it!
@SeasideGarage
@SeasideGarage 3 года назад
Thanks Ivano! Yea me too... when a car receives a total restoration it also looses a lot of character in my opinion... So I enjoy just keeping them on the road and fixing whats necessary.. :)

For servicing cluch. Just remove engine. It is realy simple. I changed engine on this car twice. Unbolt bumper, back wall with lights, tow hook asembly (it shared bolts with back engine mount, which you need to unbolt anyway). then some bolts between gearbox and engine, some hoses and wires. Then you need two jacks. One under gearbox and second with wheels under oil pan. And just pull :)

Thanks for the brilliant video. At the same time as Communism collapsed, I bought a cheap 1978 105 just to get me through winter. It suffered from over heating 4 months later and went to the scrapyard due to spare part prices almost tripling since the wall came down. It is a great regret that I did not buy a 2 year old 120 5 speed at that time, as the spare part prices fell back quite quickly. I bought a 4 year old Fiat instead and it rusted away in no time. I look forward to any updates you post.

Hydraulisk kobling...
@SeasideGarage
