Thank you so much for making this video! The morons over at Barricade sent me instructions with several vital steps missing out of it. You're a life saver!!
On that cb antenna mounting location. An antenna needs a solid ground to be effective, sufficient height, and most importantly resonant on the segment of the rf spectrum you are operating. If it were me, I'd use a Hustler 2" ball mount attached to the bumper on either corner, and a 102" stainless steel whip. Those antenna are literally indestructible, and resonant across the band with no adjustment necessary. If needed, you can fold them over and secure them with a line for low clearance issues like parking garages. I've used one for years, and they have never failed me. Also, it's good to use a tennis ball for preventing the whip from wacking your vehicle. I also use a short line to keep the whip from bending back too far. If you get a ham license, general class and above, the 102" whip when coupled to a random wire antenna will open up your access to lower frequency bands that have outstanding propagation, like 40 meters.
I used your video to install this bumper less the tire carrier. Went pretty smooth. I did all by myself just used a jack to hold the bumper while I started the bolts on the side. We'll see how it holds up rust wise with MN winters but nothing a little spray paint can't fix. Thanks for the video.
Hey CPO, I've been watching your channel a lot to get ideas for my jku. How have your barricade front and rear bumpers held up to rust? And have you had any problems with the rear bumper with tire carrier? What about towing?
Did you have any issues with the bumper making contact with body? Also, on the underside 4 bolts, does the bumper actually contact the frame? To keep mine from contacting the body up top I had to use spacers to adjust it away from the body. I also had the bumper contacting the lower bolts on the license plate holder. I may just send it back and see if the new one fits better. I have doubts because I sent the front bumper back because it was bent where the fairlead mounts. Plus, both front bumpers have metal inside the fairlead opening. I'm going to have to grind that away so the rope doesn't contact the metal bumper.
+marty barman yeah....i had to grind down my fairlead slot. the bumper doesn't contact the body at all. It was close and tight to the license plate mount, I do remember that. I'm not sure about the question about the 4 bolts and the bumper contacting the frame. sorry.
+OVERCLOCK3D - CPO I was asking if the portion of the rear bumper where the hitch is mounted (4 bolts) butts against the frame on the aft and bottom. I had to use washers to space these 2 spots to keep it off the body and the plate holder. BTW, Great videos. I've learned A LOT from your info. Thanks
Great videos! Got two questions, where did you end up placing your trailer wire harness? and have you towed anything with it yet/are you comfortable towing with it? I am looking to get this bumper but I do tow a small 4.5ftx8ft trailer with my atv and would like to still be able to do that, as well not have my trailer wire harness just dangling down. Thanks!
I tucked my harness up out of the way in the back side... I can't remember exactly now...but it was out of the way. I have towed a small trailer on a cross country trip, and had no issues. It's as sturdy as any other hitch I've had. You can see the trailer in this video.... somewhere around a minute in I show it, and then it shows a few times after that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VH-a4PpnuCE.html
Thats awesome thank you for the fast response, I have pretty much the exact same trailer. I saw you had the safety chains set up in that video you linked, did you have to drill holes in the bumper to be able to hook them up?
hey I have this bumper without the tire carrier. is the carrier strong does it wiggle and make noise when you drive down the road?? please let me know thanks
trey michel I just recently installed the same bumper and tire carrier.... did you install one as well? I've been looking online for any answers on this. I noticed a little sag in the rear and a slight sway on the freeway. I haven't added any additional items besides this as of now, I have the Rubicon Express 3.5" lift. Thanks
I have little to no experience with working on cars, I am looking at getting this bumper for my jeep but i really do not want to have to pay to get it installed, would you say this would be somewhat easy for me to do myself? great video it helps a lot.
Did you find this bumper and tire carrier to be complete junk? At first, this bumper was great, but over time it makes tons of noise. I'm not sure if the rattling is coming from the spare tire are itself, or if it's from the handle. Please let me know. I noticed you went with something new. Thanks!
+Tim Grossi .5 hahaha. I honestly have only heard it a few times. Last time found my handle was a little loose, and tightened it up and no issues since. The handle assembly came pre-installed, with apparently no thread lock on the allen bolt...so it worked loose over time. I've heard a few squeaks here and there, but they are intermittent. As of late, Ive heard no noise. Others may have different results.
Chief, I like you channel and presentation style. But, I have to ask this question. Why do Jeep owners find it necessary to remove perfectly new, usable, and working components and replace them with primarily cosmetic replacements?
Cause the plastic bumpers that come on jeeps are trash they look like crap after 5 months in the sun fades the plastic and the factory plastic fender do the same.
A rear tire carrier bumper is more function than aesthetic as the stock tire carrier can destroy the welds due to the heavier and much larger aftermarket wheel and tire combo. You need a heavy duty one to support the big spare. Also the steel construction is much more durable than the flimsy plastic ones when it comes to offroad abuse
+Clyde Vasey Soon I hope! It's almost completely edited, but it takes a while...and unfortunately last week and this last weekend were extremely busy, so dedicated editing time has been limited. I hope to have it completed in the next day or two.
