Kelly you are so right we only have one face, one skin barrier. I’ve certainly learnt my lesson from over doing it, thankfully my skin is in a good place. The main culprits over the years have been exfoliators and retinoids, however that’s my fault and not the products. I have the Naturie on its way to me, I was able to source it locally but I do have a huge stylevana order to complete and adding things daily to cart( thanks to Kelly😂) I’ve also just completed my deciem order too, phew it’s hard work this skincare lark 😂😂

Kelly - I am 53 and live in MN. Cold never bothered my skin but since I’ve turned 50 it’s been a struggle. I hate having the heat on lol, we do not have a humidifier on our furnace either… plus I sleep with my bedroom window open since I now have hot flashes ugh 😣. Anything with HA in it burns my skin… I need recommendations for cleaners, toner, essence, night cream, day cream, under eye, etc. my skin barrier has been compromised… I would prefer no acids.

The weather is getting colder where I live too, and between the colder weather and the heat blasting in many buildings, it’s been causing havoc to my skin. I just added vanicream to my skin regimen, and it’s been helping massively. Sometimes I mix it with my regular moisturizer, so it isn’t as heavy.

For the past 2 yrs due to one of your videos I’ve almost exclusively looked for creams with ceramides/cholesterol/ fatty acids. When used year round I notice I no longer get that skin that flakes off and dries out. Another discovery I sort of came across is an ingredient called L22. It’s a barrier complex type of ingredient with a ton of research behind it. In fact geek and gorgeous use it in their happier barrier. It’s jojoba oil macadamia sterols, along with squalene, and several others and I notice products with L22 (trade name)complex work on a whole other level with my skin. I’ve only been able to find one or two Korean brands that use it and several US ones. I rarely steer from Korean skincare but recently discovered brandefy triple lipid which has the l22 complex as well as ceramides collateral fatty acids, phytosterals etc. I love the texture of that cream it is very reminiscent of some Korean creams I’ve used. I get it on sale though otherwise it’s like 59$ highly recommended

Lately I’ve been using a new to me serum from skin & lab called barrierderm milky serum. I LOVE it because I have been a tret user for 15 yrs and always get pilling when I put it over a few serums but with the barrierderm it allows it to glide and slip right over it and I no longer get that annoying pilling. I always have to put one or two serums before tret when the weather starts getting cooler bc my barrier without fail starts flaking off. You kinda read my mind with this video!❤❤

I remember the Hatomugi toner was one of the first toners from Japan I used and I actually did not find it hydrating. It was too light for me. @@kathleenwarner4046not op, but the dual barrier line is really nice! i personally liked the serum (a moisturising lotion like serum, sadly too small imo) and the cream as well (i have dry skin, it felt occlusive enough while being quite elegant and not greasy). i think the toner confused me a bit (it's a milky type and i'm used to more pure hydration toners), and thought i originally really liked the cleanser (very gentle, non stripping) i realised after a while it's quite hard to fully wash off and kinda makes my skincare react with it and sort of slightly foam or leave a creamy residue

Hi Kelly, Is there a worry that using Cerave Healing Ointment around the eyes could cause melia? I have a couple of bumps that I am trying to get rid of by using Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Cream with Ginseng and Retinal. I am trying to walk the tightrope between keeping my eye area moisturized and causing melia by using products that are too heavy. Thank you for all the information you provide. I love your videos.

Petrolatum is not actually pore clogging and is considered non-comedogenic. BUT, because it seals everything in it can sometimes cause issues with the other things layered underneath it. I'm not sure what causes your milia but petrolatum likely will not cause more.

I like your video, starting from watching your another video about barrier damage and then watch this. I suffer from barrier damage since this summer, at first I didn’t know it’s barrier damage, because my face skin is keeping better and worser, and it becomes severe after sunburn and entering winter. Also I didn’t know what cause it at first, so did things made it worse. Almost all face red and itchy and painful. Cannot using any mild cleansers, only can wash with water, then super heavy repair cream, La Roche-posay cicaplast B5+ help me a lot. But I still feel not moisture enough, so partially cover with Vaseline after repair cream. (I usually am mixed/neutral skin, not oily at all, so this work for me)Eventually my face get better, recover like 95%. I hope more ppl can know that how important skin barrier health is, not like me, almost got depression. And I want to encourage ppl like me, just need to believe you will recover one day. I have bought Cerave moisture cream as you and a lot of ppl recommend, I think I will use that as daily care during winter for face and whole body. Thanks for making videos to spread skin care knowledge.

I never thought to put oil under tretinoin to help buffer. I'm nearing the end of my tret journey after two years of peeling regardless of hydrating, moisturizing, and buffing methods I have used. It's been frustrating, and my skin being in a constant state of irritation is outweighing the positives of tret, but I will give your idea of using oil one last try!

Kelly, the other day I saw a video from Dr. Pie, the Korean who tests the oils and looks at the formulas, looks at them under a microscope to decide which are the winners, and she talked about how cleansing oils contain surfactants on their own and that they are not needed. a double cleansing that if there is residue left can be removed with a toner and it makes sense not to do double cleansing because the skin barrier can be damaged with so much cleansing, what do you think about that? 😊
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll 11 месяцев назад
I personally think that would be a really finicky method for removing makeup/sunscreen and likely would require the use of cotton pads which would be kind of abrasive and wasteful if you don't use the cotton resuable ones. As someone with congestion prone skin it also doesn't sound like a good fit for me. It's an interesting experiment but the performance irl is what matters and you can only determine that by using the products. Don't over cleanse or use harsh products is still the advice that should guide us all.

Hey Kelly, I think the hatomugi skin conditioning milk and the skin conditioner are 2 different products. I know it since I too mistook the conditioning milk for the skin conditioner. The milk is like an emulsion whereas the conditioner is more like a milky toner 😅
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll 11 месяцев назад
Yes there are 2 versions. I choose this one since I like to use watery and thin toners first, the thicker emulsion texture layered on top really helps hug that in while offering the moisture level I'm seeking in the dry weather.

Hi! Really appreciate the video, great inspo for when the weather turns colder! Just one thing, i have the naturie product you showed and it's not meant to be a toner, i think you confused the conditioning milk with the skin conditioner (which is supposed to be much more watery, like a milky toner). The one you demo'd is the smaller bottle which is supposed to be a lightweight moisturizer in a recent expansion of the hatomugi skin conditioner line, which is why they have very similar and kinda confusing names

Argireline should help but also collagen stimulating ingredients like retinol or vitamin C will hleo make more meaningful longer lasting changes.
