I watched the vid without reading the title, and recognised the pit lane exit line immediately. Back in ‘78 I rode Donington before it was completed, and entered the circuit via the paddock and through the pit area. But when I reached Redgate, there was a massive mud trail left by trucks that were going backwards and forwards from the main entrance to the inside of the circuit. So I went back into the pits and grabbed a massive brush, then swept what I hoped was the best race line. Spent a good hour almost emptying my tank doing lap after lap - until a gold Mercedes appeared at the top between McLeans and Coppice. Next lap two guys were standing by the car. The following lap one of them held up his left arm and tapped his watch. I took the hint, gave him a wave and went home on reserve. That’s how I ‘met’ Tom Wheatcroft. Great to see Barry doing his thing. Great bloke. Thank you for sharing
Is it me or were sport stars more charismatic back then. Two blokes, amongst the best at what they did, having a laugh and coming across as a couple of regular guys having some fun. Seems a million miles away fromthe monotone, one dimensional boring folk of today.
They didn’t have a team of 8 behind the scenes, from marketing, the sponsors and worst of all, H.R., telling them what they can and can’t say. Pretty much. So i read on the internet, so it must be true! 😂 Seriously though, i’m 100% agreed with your comment.
An era of real people who loved the job they did not the money they got for doing it. They had character, personalities and a connection with the folk who went to support them be it soccer, rugby, cricket or bikes. Even athletics, cricket and tennis had the wild down to earth super stars who never lost touch with reality.
A charming and characterful snippet, dripping with nostalgia. The bike is (or appears to be) an 1100 Katana. At the time it had been round for a year or two, but was still quite striking on appearance and performance. Whatever anyone tells you, 125mph on a pillion is disturbingly fast.... and I imagine Mr Sheene was hitting the brakes and getting on the throttle too. Lovely to see this.... Thanks for uploading.
Great stuff, never been a football lover but Jimmy was a legend the same as Barry, RIP both of you likely lads. I Met Barry as a teen and will never forget that smile, made my childhood. A legend.
From the days when humour was actually allowed. In a world full of robotic (or worse, completely talentless) ‘celebrities’ this really is a breath of fresh air
Jimmy was brilliant, Barry was a bloody hero, if he had the equipment every year who know what he could have done. I admired his never give up attitude. Miss you Barry!!! Both these guys gave me a Spurs fan and Suzuki rider a lot to smile about :)
What a fantastic couple of human beings! Such a shame we lost Barry at such a young age one of my all time heroes as a young lad , and Jimmy what a fantastic bloke he is world class footballer and great commentator, shame we lost Ian st John recently True sports legends and I agree real character’s not like most of today’s sports personalities
Jimmy had taken a kicking being a footballer,but after 35 years i'm glad i can post ths,after a few nasty's,yet alone all the off's,that said,this clip is great,both geezers had a fun time.......BARRY/JIMMY/KATANA
This clip was brill for me to see, my hero , barry on a katana, I noticed this was an 1100, i had the 1000 slide carb version. thanks for posting this. Dave

'Will you do me a favour?'. 'Not here Jimmy,!'. Legends - never knew this event took place, wonderful to see. Barry Sheene is the reason I ride motorbikes - one of a kind.
It's a game of two halves says Jimmy Greaves inwardly he's wishing the referee would blow the whistle or maybe the Saint could take his place Barry just loved entertaining the crowd 👍💯🔥😂👌
Jimmy was a bloody good driver too. He piloted a works Mk1 Escort to 4th place (i think) in the 1970 London to Mexico Rally. He hit and killed a horse (and nearly himself) in Panama too :)
I remember in the early 80's when I had an RD350 that smoked just about any 750 I encountered until the VFR750 came out and they edged me out. Then late one night I saw one of these Katana's for the first time and had no idea what the hell it was. When the light turned green by the time I was across the intersection the Katana was almost 1/4 block down the road. I never attempted that again.
Blimey! "Jimmy Greaves was part of the 1966 England World Cup Squad". Damn him with feint praise, why don't you...?!!" For you youngsters who don't know much about him..."Jimmy Greaves was one of the most prolific goal scorers of all time......"!!!!
