NOTE: I am aware that my ribbons are indeed backwards. slams forehead into table Somehow I must have put them on upside down and never noticed during the 10 hours of preparing my uniform, recording and editing. And I have no idea how I managed to let this slip, as I always take my uniform very seriously. But please enjoy the video!
At BMT you're going to have to drill on a daily basis. This video describes the basic drill movements that you'll use in BMT

0 week-wall locker lock wouldn't budge 1 week- missing blousing strap 2 week- moving leg unnecessarily during fest 4 week- almost blacked out on PT pad, Messing up EC (didn't let him in though), crap shave, and sister flight MTI made me jump when she slammed the door 5 week- simple drill, broke bearing 8 week- missing PT jacket from BEAST. Including the instructor change out during 4WOT, I'm still surprised I was never Recycled.

Ahh thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm about to take the asvab in about two weeks and have been looking for videos that teach the commands and things like that, so that I won't go in completely dumbfounded. Your videos are super helpful and I think I now have a feel for how basic is going to be.

From an old Master Sergeant, I gotta say you're the most squared away airman I've seen. Even calling commands is respectable.. I know you're moving along, having seen your other videos. Just make sure you always remember where you came from, take care of others, and maintain your bearing. I've been retired many years, and that has helped me endlessly.

WildBlueYonder, Great job and keep up the effort to promote the Air Force in a positive environment. I am a retired Aircrew Flight Equip. Superintendent with 29 years of service and was a Acting First Sergeant. I am involved with the Civil Air Patrol and I use some of your videos to show to the young cadets that are considering serving in the Air Force on what it is like currently. Keep up the great work and know that your efforts have reflected positively about the Air Force core values of Service before self and are impacting young people into making a decision to serve this great country of ours. I am proud that your my fellow "Airman" blue suiter

One thing about drill that gets on my nerves - it's really just a pet peeve of mine - is when people say stuff like forward harch, or attench-hut, especially when they are using a speaking voice. I've met a lot of people in Civil Air Patrol who do this and it makes me cringe, and also apparently my squadron's deputy commander dislikes this as well since he gave us a 15-minute lecture on why this is incorrect, and why a lot of people tend to get it wrong. In AFMAN 36-2203 (Figure 2.2 - "Commands Portrayed Graphically"), the manual shows us how to emphasize our command voice when calling commands loudly - for example, when commanding multiple flights. While elsewhere in the manual, commands like "forward march" are described to be pronounced like any normal person would, this diagram tells you to pronounce it as "forward harch". This sounds strange to anyone except those who have been conditioned to say it that way. This pronunciation is only meant to assist you if you don't know how to use your diaphragm properly - NOT to tell you how to pronounce the word "march". If you aren't convinced, please say the words "one, two, three, four" out loud. Sounds normal, right? But some people - when describing the command "Count Cadence, COUNT" would pronounce these numbers as "hut, toop, threep, fourp" like Figure 2.2 shows. If you're in a classroom, teaching a group of people completely new to drill at a normal volume, you would sound stupid pronouncing your numbers like that. Figure 2.2 shows you how to really use your diaphragm to shout those numbers out, and if you're screaming, they might come out sounding like "hut, toop, threep, fourp", but not if you can help it. If you're speaking indoors or at a reasonable volume, your commands should come out exactly as they are pronounced on paper. "Forward, march" is "Forward, march" - not "Forward, harch", "Right, face" is "Right, face" - not "Right, hace". Don't butcher your words if you don't have to. It will either make you look dumb, or make you come off as a military brat. It doesn't sound professional at all, and it goes directly against AFMAN-36-2203. Pronounce it the way it is supposed to be pronounced.

I have a question regarding your demonstration of the position of attention. I was in basic in 1984 & we were taught that our feet are TOGETHER & NOT at a 45 degree angle as you have shown. To me, that seems rather awkward. Did they change it?
@WildBlueYonder
@WildBlueYonder 9 лет назад
StarX81 Yes, they've changed it to 45 degrees now. It is a little more difficult to make sure your feet are at 45s, but it looks a little better in my opinion. Thank you for your service!
@alexdiego3523
@alexdiego3523 9 лет назад
Are you allowed to adjust your feet a little if they aren't really 45º or if heels aren't touching? Or do they show you how to prevent from happening?
@WildBlueYonder
@WildBlueYonder 9 лет назад
+Alex Diego Once your legs swing around to their resting position, you cannot move them. If you do, you'll be in double trouble because 1. You didn't put them in the right place to begin with and 2. You adjusted. Your MTIs will teach you different teqniques if you aren't getting it though. I would say from experience to pivot your leading foot a little further away from the centerline of your body than you would naturally. This way your second foot can come up and make up the other 22.5 degrees

Why is it "Hace" instead of "Face" or is this just pronunciation.
@WildBlueYonder
@WildBlueYonder 9 лет назад
:O great question. Well, some words are pronounced differently when they are used in whats called a "command voice", like I used in the video. In this instance, Face = Hace. Rest = Hest. March = Harch. Etc. The basic idea behind it is that you can be much louder and use your diaphragm to expel much more air/sound with an "H" sound than an "F" sound. Thanks for the question. I love drill/ commanding and can talk about it all day long
