Coating you lures with a big fat layer of epoxy really makes it so much nicer. It really isn't that difficult to do, but is also the part of luremaking that has ruined most lures for me. In this movie I take you through all the basics of epoxy coating , and talk a bit about the tools you need. We will also get into some of the most common errors, and how you can solve them.
If you like my holder system, then watch the movie about it: • Lure Handling System

Good Morning ! First of all congratulate you on the excellent RU-vid channel and the beautiful work done, I hope you continue. Very interesting all the explanations and conclusions. I have some questions about the epoxy resin you use. Is this epoxy that you use over time yellow or not? Between this epoxy and Devcon 2 epoxy which one? I can apply this material to plastic bait, for example: goldfish Duo Tide, Daiwa, Shimano, etc. etc, etc ..., to protect paint and scratches from triple hooks? Thank you and good fishing
@SplishSplashFishing
@SplishSplashFishing 4 года назад
Hi Goncalo. The epoxy I use doesn't yellow over time, or at least not the 3-4 years I have used it. I have not tried Devcon, but have tried some other fast hardning epoxies, and I do think that the result is much better with the stuff I use. Yes you can apply it to existing lures if you clean them up and maybe sand them with some very fine sandpaper. However no matter what they will get scratches from hooks and bites. I don't think you can avoid that with any product. Good luck

Hi,i was buy Glass Cast 3. Easy to work with that one resin .I made 50grams wobbler with few layers,between each one layer day after made next one layer of epoxy. Before fishing i was wait 3 weeks for dry epoxy..Looks really nice.But when i went fishing my first day i got 4 pike and many many many scrathes.When i throw the wobbler,the hooks also scratch on the sides, this made me not happy.So i looking for epoxy resin much stronger then this one to protect my wobblers better.So if you know any other one resin give please know.Thanks

Great work! I always enjoy watching your videos and have learned a lot from them. All the issues you mentioned working with epoxy, are very recognizable 😁. But i have one more... My hook hangers sometimes get clogged with epoxy while the lure is turning on my rotator. This happens more than i would like to and it is a quite a job clearing them after the epoxy has hardened. Any tips on this one?
@SplishSplashFishing
@SplishSplashFishing 5 лет назад
My best advise would be to keep the hookhanger eye far enough from the body to leave space for the epoxy. Also try brush away from the eye rather that towards - I that makes sense. Good luck
@gillesderoeck7937

Hello and thank You for this video. I’m quite ready to try epoxy coating on my first home made lures and for sure it will help me a lot. Your workbench is impressive, and Your work too, really congratulations! Just a question on a point You did not mentioned: I have read that sometimes people take the opportunity of epoxy coating to add some specks onto lures. Have You already done that sometimes? If yes, do You have any advices for doing it? Would it be better to do it on the first layer? Or one of the others? Thanks again for sharing Your experience. Nicolas

I assume that you refer to spots, fins and lines - I would paint those onto the airbrush paint before the epoxy. It's only the signature, I add in between the layers. Good luck with your lures

Its just normal denatured alcohol uses for houskeeping. Yes the lid with a hole is just to minimize evaporation. Good luck

Dear Splish Splash , For the last layer of coating, ıs it necessary to use another material such as varnish or just resin is enough because I am making jigging and always my jigs hits to the rocks at the bottom.
@SplishSplashFishing
@SplishSplashFishing 4 года назад
@@Batuhankaygan976 I dont think you can completely avoid chipping with lures that hit the rock. If your jigs are metal - lead, tin, etc. there are the posibility of using powder coating. There are some types of that that are nearly shatterproof. But still if you topcoat with epoxy, it will chip. For my own jigheads, I just remelt and cast again, when they are too badly beaten up.

is it true that the next coat of epoxy should be applied before the previous one is completely hardened as it does not stick and can crack easily in use. Other some RU-vid videos say something like this or is this epoxy brand specific that should be considered?
@SplishSplashFishing
@SplishSplashFishing 4 года назад
That is not my experience. I have often repaired old lures by adding layers after several months, And have not had layers that have split. As long at you keep i clean of dust and grease, the layers seem to stick nicely together. Can say if other brands have this problem, but like you I have heard the saying

Hello !!!! I ask you a question, I have made an alamo wood lure with an acrylic paddle, the size of the lure is 12 cm by 3.5 cm high, the reel line is not on the paddle but on the lure's snout, the way is similar to rapala's super shad rap 14, and I have a problem that when I swim against the current at a good recollection speed it starts to swim in circles and appears on the surface, do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong???? Thanks !!!!!
@SplishSplashFishing
@SplishSplashFishing 2 года назад
Hi Claudio. Normally that problem is caused by the lip/paddle is not 100% perpendicular to the lure body. When you fish against the current, or at high speeds, it really doesn't take much to make it go to one side or even rotate

I dont think that its completely the same, as they probably has changed the formula to get the properties you would expect from a glue. But it is generally the same thing, and I know that quite a lot people use 30 min epoxy glue thinned with a few drops of alcohol to coat their lures.

super video, jeg har oplevet jeg ikke har været nøjagtig nok i min opmåling af de to komponenter og ender op med en overflade, som ikke hærder perfekt. Kan man her dække dette med en ny perfekt blanding? og derved opnå et godt resultat?

What would be the denatured ethyl alcohol for domestic use, which is used to clean glass and tiles, what would be burning alcohol ???? Which has a bluish color or the one used to disinfect wounds ??? Thanks

Try using a different brand of epoxy or paint as there seem to be something in your epoxy that disolves the paint. Could be alcohol. Maybe use a sealer after the painting.
