My Dad has a Basset Hound. he's 9 years old and I can confirm just about everything that's been said in this video. He's lazy, but he is so loyal to the point where he fill follow you around no matter where you go. he loves any attention he gets and can never get enough of it. the moment you stop petting him, he will try to put your hand back on his head again, its the cutest thing ever. Here's to hoping he lives past 10!

In this breeds later years, they are susceptible to back issues due to how long their spine is. Ours had a spinal collapse and we had to let him go, but he made it to 13 years. This breed also has one of the best noses. Keep them occupied or they will follow their nose anywhere.

When they asked to shake hands, the basset hound was like “nah I’m good” but the other dog was like “LOOK AT ME I CAN DO IT! LOOK HOW GOOD I CAN DO IT TOO! SEE?! SEE?! WHY AREN’T YOU LOOKING AT MEEEE?!!!!”

I've no ever known a Bassett Hound owner that wasn't "in total love" with their dog. All I saw was a blob always lying around, barely moving. But she saw a whole dog and loved it dearly.

One of our bassets was called Sebastian and he was the most paternal dog to have lived . When my sister or I would cry as babies he would jump up and cuddle us until we stopped crying and fell asleep. And he cared for the puppies of all breeds we had :)

We had a neighbor who had a basset hound that would sit on top of his dog house (like Snoopy) and bay for hours. Pretty annoying.

Bassets don't get older, they get cuter.

My best friend in the 1980's had a purebred Basset Hound. He was such a small, awwdorable puppy bought from a reputable breeder. By the time he was one year old, he was over 200 lbs!😳 He wasn't obese or overweight at all. The vet said that possibly a recessive gene from generations ago was likely to be the cause of his gigantic size. None of the dog's siblings had gotten so large and the breeder was stunned. The hound was great with her small children, and loved to give them - one at a time - piggyback rides. I've never seen a huge Basset Hound again.

They have some of the cutest puppies known to mankind lol.

I had a basset hound not that long ago and she was very loving and always excited to see me. I’m only a teen but I would highly recommend getting one.

You forgot to mention 1 problem with having them in an apartment, the noise levels. They have an echoing, ear drum shatter 'bay', they actually make very good alarm dogs due to their sense of smell and how alarming the noise they make is. It's kind of shocking how such a big sound can come out of suck a short and stocky dog if you've never been around them before.

When out for a walk their nose goes into overdrive and their ears shut off. Be aware if taking them off lead they will follow their nose ignoring your commands. Another adorable Basset breed is a Petite Basset Griffin Vendeen. Lighter weight rough coat French Basset. Cutest puppies.

Over 40 years ago ,wheny husband and I started living together we had a small trailer in a trailer park in S.Fla.abput 4 trailers up,some friends had a female greyhound the adopted ,and on the next street over, there lived about 3 pr 4 young guys in the Air Force sharing a trailer.One of them owned a very large wonderful Bassett hound named "Doobie".Doobie was SO smart and his ears nearly dragged the floor.The coolest thing about Doobie ( my husband knew the owner and told me this!) was that the guy liked to kinda drink a few beers and fall asleep laying on the couch,so he taught Doobie,that if he would fall asleep and drop his cigarette onto the floor- fo Doobie to go over and scratch it out! I'm not sure if he encouraged a natural thing he already did but that was pretty incredible in itself.But THEN I found out that the great puppy my husband had when I moved in with him was Doobies son! His name was Zeigfrey,and I was further blown away to find out that Doobie's "wife" was the rescued female greyhound just up the street from us! She was ALL legs and stood far from the ground,was streamlined and had once been a racing dog at the Greyhound track in Miami.But Doobie stood on 4 legs barely 8 " high! As if the logistics of that relationship and parenthood aren't mind boggling enough....One day we were out in the yard planting a few things and Doobie came down the street ,stopped at the gate of his "wife's " house,stood there a few and I could see the two of them sharing kisses and tail wags before head ended up at our place,where he saw his son ,Zeigfrey,laying in the yard.He came and laid down with him in the shade and visited with him for about 30 minutes.They traded nose nudges and puppy was truly excited to see his father! And it was wonderful to see a dog who KNEW,recognized and spent time with what he actually just wanted to do to be with his own wife and son! Doobie and Angel went on to have several more litters together and Zeigfrey always was so happy to see his dad,as was he! What a remarkable and great dog he was! And Zeigfrey too!

My Bassett Hound from growing up was a Wonderful Dog. I still miss her!

They are also VERY vocal, they have a voice louder than a Husky, it will surprise you how loud they can talk. Aside from that, they can easily be a lovable best friend 🖤

I have a hound mix with ridgeback and Great Dane and this describes him soooo good!!! Loyal, loving , has great smell, lazy , laid back, determined , and stubborn . He’s amazing though a 100 💯 % recommended this breed !!!

They most definitely are not lazy, but one of mine is definitely more active with zoomies then the other, not to mention, they have two very different personalities. If you decide to get a basset hound you'll never know what your going to get and its one of the charms of them 🙂.

My recommendation, get insurance before their first ear infection, clean ears regularly and Scotchgard your carpet.

They are the sweetest dogs. Perfect for children who pull their ears. Nothing phases the sweet-natured basset.

I'm an old man now, but when I was around six or seven years old, my family had a Basset Hound. We loved her and she loved us. She was extremely gentle and loved it when the neighborhood kids came around and gave her pets. Then, one day, my younger brother and I were sitting on the front porch with our dog and the mailman came up the walk. He delivered our mail and, as he turned to leave, patted my brother on the head. Samantha tore him up! We didn't get into any trouble and no one tried to put her down, but it was the most unexpected thing to have happened. So, not only are Bassets good companion animals, they will protect your children, too. Lesson learned.

They are great dogs but just know they are messy af. They shed constantly and drool worse than a mastiff.

got a basset puppy in march, she was born in mid december. it is now almost september and she has done thousands worth of damage to our house and has caused my nose to bleed multiple times from jumping on me. she's eaten things she shouldnt have and had to be taken to the vet multiple times. she howls half the night and despite professional, specialized training and a lot of effort, the only command she knows even half way decent is sit, and if she does not receive a treat immediately after sitting, she will howl and bark and jump until you finally reward her. All this being said, and even though she is a massive pain, she's still my best friend and I wouldn't trade her for anything

We had two when I was a kid. They played tag in the backyard. Too funny. One in front one chasing. Tag the butt of the lead dog turn around and chase the other one.

I love these dogs. I met my first one on a Kentucky farm, where my mom went to see an old friend, many years ago. I saw sitting on the front porch and this adorable Basset Hound waddled up to me and jumped into my lap. I've adored these dogs ever since.

My stepmom had a basset hound when I was a kid. Sweetest dog ever. And they're hilarious to watch. You might want to waterproof your whole house before you get one though. There's a lot of drool and slobber involved.

I have a 1 year Bassett named Charlie. Best dog I've ever had. He sheds worse than a husky, stubborn as a mule, slobbers on everything, constantly cleaning his ears and his barking and howling can be heard 4 blocks over. He's extremely intelligent, loves to play fetch and is a super tracker. These dogs are also very strong and likes to play ruff. I wouldn't recommend them as an inside dog especially if you are a clean person and keep a clean house. I take mine to work everyday and he is great with all people, also very loyal

Bassett are the best. Had one that was very energetic and active. Always had a younger dog around and she lived to be 15.

You will never "Train" a Basset Hound. You will just come to an understanding. I lost my "Basset Princess" 10 years ago and these dogs will change your life. They are just big lovable goofballs. I miss her every day.

We had one till her back went out at the age of 12. She was an awesome bed cuddler, and critter finder. Still miss her.

It cannot be overstated how stubborn they are lol. We have two, and sometimes it feels like it would be easier to move a house by hand than get them to do something. Great personalities though, and incredibly loyal.

While definitely not the most popular dog breed, I like them a lot because they’re overall mostly friendly and approachable animals that just like to chill and hangout. Safe to say they will for sure be a perfect couch or bed cuddle buddy

I had a beagle basset mix for 13 years. My wife and I had to put him down a couple of days ago. I have to say he was the best dog I could have ever asked for. Him not physically being here has completely gutted us. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for both the Beagle and Basset breeds.
