On set Joel Schumacher kept yelling out before each take “remember it’s a comic” to make sure that it stayed goofy

Honestly I think Joel Schumacher made good movies for kids but only in Forever did I notice some deeper themes building visually. As an Adult Forever is kinda decnt to me lol but Batman and Robin I can't stomach to watch again. Still I think all the actors, directors, and producers are exceptional talents; and I recognize chemistry needs to be perfect for a vision to truly come together. Movies are hard yo- Wb
@daeviant

I really think blaming the writer for a bad movie is unfair. It really is the director and producer that makes the decisions. If they thought the script was bad, then they wouldn't use it. Studios have also been known to take good scripts and turn them into garbage, a la Spiderman 3, Thor 2, and pretty much the entire DCEU.

but the asteroid didn't kill the dinosaurs, i mean, it probably killed some by falling on their heads. What killed the dinosaurs is the giant scale chain reaction due to the asteroid impact, provoking volcanos to erupt in mass and then the climate going on a winter so long no big vegetation or dinosaur could survive (besides toxic ammounts of volcanic ash all over the place) , herbibores got sick and/or died, then carnivores ate those sick dinosaurs and died too, not counting the harsh unforgiving climate. Somethings for sure, the winter effect had nothing to do with the ice age , most probably not, that's because scientists could document several ice ages trough years, but couldn't get as far as to determine if there was a greenhouse effect during dinosaur times or if one was relatred to their exctinction. I think I was about 8 when I saw it in the cinema and the scene where Robin hung his clothes up to dry was the most memorable part and it had a real effect on me at the time. I was always a messy kid and oblivious to the benefits of tidying up but I also always harboured a secret fear of losing my family and used to have nightmares about it. The scene comes after Robin loses his family, and he shows Alfred that he's independent and capable and still moving forward just when he's being looked at as a victim. 8 year old me was very proud of him and the memory became a small touchstone for a developing mind and I hoped that I could be that strong and just carry on getting little things done for myself and survive if I found myself alone in the world. Being more present and more tidy and organised and doing inane things for myself because they needed doing helped to make me more capable of dealing with the dreams.

15:00 I think Dick was intentionally trying to get in the cave here. Earlier in the movie Alfred told Dick that this room was the only room in the entire mansion he wasn't allowed in. He was using his ninja monkey skills to try to get into the room before the door shut behind Alfred. Feels more like Dick being a curious little kitty than a "he just happened to land in the Batcave" thing. Super minor but I had to show my super sick paying attention to the movie skills to Mr. The Alien.

I think it has to do with the films being comedic then it is that the execution was botched. The 60s show is a complete parody of the original comics, and people love that show. Dick "landing his ass in the Batcave" wasn't a mistake. He was up on the 3rd floor so Alfred would think Dick wouldn't be able to follow behind him, then Dick did the routine and slid into the silver closet to beat the door closing. He didn't know it was the Batcave, but he was very curious about why that was the only locked door. Elvis is so entertaining, and it's disappointing that he missed something that I realized when I saw this in the theatre when I was 14 years old. Edit: Wait wait wait wait. My favorite thing about these movies is that Joel probably designed one of the best on screen Gotham aesthetics ever. the scale, grandiose buildings, the over the top + art deco & gothic architecture along with all the neons it's like cyberpunk Batman without any of the cyber, it dazzled me as a kid & its the prime reason I revisit these movies, it goes banana's on an OLED TV and i know for sure Arkham Knight took inspiration from it cuz a lot of the designs felt nostalgic to me. But i have never and will never give Joel Schumacher any flack for making these movies. As bad as they are i can find enjoyment in watching them & he said himself he didn't mean to make a bad movie he only wanted to entertain and that i was lol. Not to mention it became precursor to some the best Batman movies that have become classics. It's wild to think we got Batman Begins only 8 years after this debacle.

I gotta say I think Kilmer was the Andrew Garfield of the Bat-men in that if he'd have been given a better script he could've been the best Bruce Wayne ever. There's leaked footage of deleted scenes that would've allowed his emotional vacancy to pay off as he finally opens up to himself and confronts his feelings and guilt - the title "Forever" was chosen as the movie would've followed his struggle and finally conviction that he'd be Batman, forever. But a lot of it was meddled with by execs and producers after they got so burned from the reception to Returns

(those are the only 2 movies ive ever watched that i had to turn off and never finished.) and joel Schumacher is 100% capable of making genuinely good/well made movies. falling down is one of the best movies ever in my opinion. and 8mm is really good too. im glad his batman movies exist.

TLJ only did the movie for his son because two face was his favorite batman character and straight up told a producer he didn't understand the script, alongside the fact that he wasn't used to sharing the screen with another actor and didn't want to be one upped by Jim Carrey which led to him massively overcompensating. His performance in the movie manages to feel both phoned in and wildy over the top at the same time.

My ex once met Chris O'Donnell in 2001 while working on Boca Grande at a resort, this particular gig was catering for a wedding that Chris happened to be a guest of. My ex loved the Batman films and Chris was probably the most notable person he had encountered while working there. Anyway, he had occasion to speak with him at some point when Chris approached the banquet table he was taking care of, and so my ex said to him "Hey, you're Chris O'Donnell right?" and Chris said "yeah I am, what's your name?" to my ex replied totally deadpan "I'm Batman." My ex was just trying to be silly, and so he was taken completely aback when Chris shot him a dirty look and said "ya haha real funny, fuck you man" and walked away.. So I guess maybe making those movies was an embarrassment to him by that point.. I think he thought he was being insulted, but that wasn't the intent behind it. Or maybe he was just having a bad night, who knows. He pretty much faded into obscurity not long after the early 00's anyway. I love these movies tho, they are cheesy and fun as hell.
