"Hard to forget that night, huh? In a way, Batman, this was the site of your first great failure. Maybe even your greatest, but certainly not your last" ~ Jason Todd referring to the creation of the Joker
What is it with everyone holding Damian status as a biological son above the other adopted sons? I know that DC keeps pushing "Damian is Batman's son", but flat out telling that he's the only son that matters to Bruce is just plain wrong. As we've seen with Injustice, the fact that Damian is related to Bruce meant nothing when Dick Grayson dies. And when Damian was dead and Jason told Alfred that Damian's death was worse because he was Batman's son while he had been just another Robin, Alfred tells him that Bruce feels the same way about both of them.
I 100% agree with this. As someone who is adopted myself, I even find some offense in statements like this. However, that's something that I've long since accepted as something you can't understand truly unless you've experienced it yourself, either as a child who's been adopted or a parent or family member of an adopted child. Most of the time I just write it off as that. But some people are really ignorant and blatant in that they think blood means more than adoption. Those people I just stop watching.
Sofia Matos like when Jason died that was the original Batman’s greatest failure I doesn’t matter if ur biological or adopted I’m pretty sure batman loves them all
Well in the comics after Damian died Batman went to apocalypse with the Hellbat suit just to get his body and bring him back to life but Batman did not do anything like that for Jason
I disagree completely. Damian dying was not worse than Jason Todd dying. Bruce doesn't rank one of his children higher just because one is related to him. Blood doesn't matter to Bruce - it's actions, and behavior that Bruce cares about the most. Side Note: Batman does say he's disappointed in Damian in Injustice, and says Dick Grayson is the true heir to his legacy.
Both dying was equally as bad. But in my opinion, DaJuan dying was much worse. Because of he was his only son. Also, the Injustice universe is not canon.
I'm surprised there's no mention of the creation of Two-Face. It's depicted in several media that Batman attempted to save Harvey from the acid attack, but was too late to prevent permanent damage to half of Harvey's face, thus creating one of his worst villains. Sure, Harvey had a split personality before that, but it was the burns that made him turn into an outright villain.
Batman is an old pulp superhero, created in the same era as Superman. Many comic book heroes wore pants like that over their tights. Akin to the circus strongman type?! Batman, Superman, Flash Gordon, The Phantom and so many more... etc.
First:To quote batman himself "If I killed him I know Gotham would make someone much worse" aka Batman would rather fight an evil he knows rather then a new chaotic evil that would come. Second:He's also not the judge or jury so in a fair trail the actual judge and jury would have to sentence the Joker to death which I am honestly surprised hasn't happened yet. If you believe in justice then you generally would let your morals say the justice system should decide the Joker's fate.
Devious J But then we just go down the Injustice storyline again, except the man at the helm of the Regime has contingency plans for taking down anyone who might be able to stop him. The Joker in particular is the one villain Batman can never kill because doing it would feel far too right.
Tbh I wish they would stop killing and bringing characters back. I think killing Jason and bringing him back was fine but when they did the same thing with Damian I got made. Damian is pretty much a younger version of Jason.
Lol when Jason died Bruce was all sad and stuff but then Damian died Bruce literally had the guts to go to Jason and destroy his new trust with Jason, by tricking him to go with him to the place Joked beat and killed him and asked him if he remembered how he died so he could get Dami back.
Robin (Dick Grayson/Nightwing) Also created and formed the Teen Titans, one of the greatest super hero teams of all time. Dick can also go one on one with Slade and win, which even the Green Arrow and Batman had trouble with! And this was BEFORE he was Nightwing! I love Dick Grayson.
@@PotatoKernels In the regular DC universe, Jason died, came back to life thanks to Ra’s Al Ghul and trained for 5 years by pretty much everyone, Batman style. He DIED. Someone who actually died and then came back to life said that it was like being in a never ending abyss. So it clearly fucks you up. In the Arkham games, Jason was not killed, but worse. Joker tortured him for over a whole year, electrocuted him every morning, doused him with water, cut him up, and let all of Batman’s rogues gallery beat him up, breaking of knows how many bones. He even had some of them dress up as Batman and beat him up. Then gave him a knife and let him kill them. So he was clearly royaly fucked up. The only reason he managed to escape was when Deathstroke broke in and Jason bribed him with 10 Million Dollars. When he was broken out he hacked into Wayne Enterprises accounts and sent the money over to him. So tell me that that is easy to get over. Batman hated and beat himself over the fact that he had been to Arkham himself WHILST Jason was still there and didn’t know.
@@nahlataha1744 i know what happened but still how is that relevant. Both red hood and arkham knight started if hating bruce but at the end they no longer do and helped him, only difference is one died and one got tortured and also one has an army the other doesn't.
@@PotatoKernels He gets to annihilate Gotham’s crime rate, destroying its very structure by standing at the very top of it. In the Under the Red Hood film it shows that perfectly. But all of this really fucks him up. He actually has a mantra that he repeats “I’m okay”. He constantly tries to convince himself that he’s okay when he knows that a part of him isn’t. Even though it seems amazing what happened to him, in actuality it really fucked him up, and it still kinda does.
Mr Funnyman it wasn’t the Nolan trilogy. The worst was Keaton as he wasn’t able to move his neck. He had to rotate his whole body to look to the side. The Nolan suit tried to fix it but it wasn’t perfect, then they confront it in they dark knight as mobility vs protection. He picked mobility and it was a better choice.
NO CAPES!😆 But no seriously have you tried jumping around and fighting in a cape? That shit is heavy, and weighs you down, which slows you down, and, it even caused his identity to be revealed when it got caught in a conveyer belt.
Barbara Gordon isn't crippled for life anymore apparently you can get better from that in the DCU. I dislike it I loved her as Oracle and prefer Cassandra Cain as her protege and new Batgirl and Stephanie Brown as Spoiler.
I feel like his greatest failure is not completing the mission he set his sights on once his parents died. To save Gotham. I'm not saying that under his rule, it's gotten worse but Gotham is still a criminal driven city. I still don't understand why people move there or stay there for that matter. People laughing everywhere or killer plants attacking you as you walk out your door or even deadly riddles. Like who knew riddles could be deadly? Apparently, people still in Gotham
The writer's always give the joker a free pass labeled "not guilty by reason of insanity" cop out. Psychiatrists and therapists all step in because they want the feather in their cap for "fixing" the joker. Plus, as well as plot theories go, I recall reading a few that suggest that the government keeps giving the joker a get out of jail free card so as to break Batman mentally so they have a legitimate excuse to take over Wayne Enterprises and get all that Wayne money and Waynetech goodies.
Yes, but the one time there was an effort to railroad the Joker as being sane to stand trial and be up for the death penalty, Batman worked to unmask the conspiracy to croak the Clown. Which ultimately means Batman is about law, not justice or even empathy for victims. At some point, after the Joker has broken out of Arkham for the 20th time, you have got to deal with him yourself and put an end to it. This is why I prefer The Shadow. He'll let a villain be dealt with by the law, but if they flub it, The Shadow sees to it that there isn't a repeat performance (his first villain, Diamond Bert was sent to prison then arranged some crimes while in prison, then started another murderous racket when he was released - The Shadow arranged a duel with Diamond Bert rather than let him job the legal system again and get back out to cause more deaths). Batman is simply unwilling to do what needs to be done for the public good.
Carandini And as I mentioned in one of the other videos, Batman's got more blood on his hands than Joker's b/c of his inability to kill someone whose completely unable to be rehabilitated that he's literally letting the Joker keep on killing. Also if anyone from any universe that would kill Joker w/out a second thought would be both the Punisher and Ghost Rider from Marvel and Rorschach from Watchmen.
TheAllaksion Paul Dini agreed with that assessment. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the Arkham City tapes with Hugo Strange and Joker for a unique twist on this.
Do you see the difference between murder and execution? One murders because one wants to, because it feels right, whereas an execution is meant to be a person impersonally carrying out a sentence. Can you really tell me that Batman wouldn't feel good if he killed the Joker?
Sorry, pal, but that last one's a lie, one of many that Joker has told about his origins. It's right there in The Killing Joke when Joker himself says how he considers the past multiple choice. We didn't see his real memory of what happened, just the version he decided on that night. No less than Paul Dini had a theory he shared through Hugo Strange in Arkham City: as every account of Joker's origin about himself includes Batman, then that means Bats is the scapegoat for something that was entirely Joker's own fault.
Actually, the only thing not known about Joker is BEFORE he faced Batman at Ace Chemicals, and the reason for why Joker was even there. There is no doubt the two were there, as Joker has brought up Ace Chemicals many times, and of course, Batman being the one blamed for his condition.
We know that they were there. Because Batman knows what happened. We just don't know who the joker is, and why he was at ace chemicals in the first place.
Johnathon Haney Past can't be multiple choice. The Joker is the most delusional unfunny person that has no comprehension that he can't tell a good joke to save his life. That's why Batman never laughs at his jokes because he's lowest garbage with the delusional that he isn't responsible for creating pain and suffering of persons, amd nothing he does is funny
Jason Case And for just a second, I thought you might have had something worth listening to...my mistake. Humor is in the eye of the beholder, after all. One could argue that Joker's refusal to the past in the eye is the biggest joke of them all.
0:50 He has a point there, mind control happens a lot in comics. So does villains with similar or even identical powers to the heroes, which at least some of his plans would also work against
You guys finally got me as a subscriber. There's plenty of list like this, but most of them involve Batman not breaking his no kill rule and such. I enjoy your Young Justice origin story stuff and other character backgrounds, but I rarely subscribe for one or two series on a channel. Seeing something like this adds enough to do it though.
my list is this: •Bruce's parents are murdered •The Red Hood falls in a vat of acid and becomes Joker •Barbara Gordon is paralyzed •Jason Todd is killed •Batman's back is broken by Bane •Damian Wayne is killed •Batman kills Joker at some point
how is bruce's parents are murdered his fault? he was 8-10 at that time jason todd was killed by the fans who voted for him to die. batman was tired and forced to capture all his villains once they escaped from arkham by bane so how could he save himself? seeing the guy batman was up against, there's no way he could have stopped damian's death. read comics bro
Ashutosh Prakash They’re still failures, smartass. Only one I disagree with is the parents one. Also, just because the fans voted for Jason Todd to die doesn’t mean shit. You think the characters in the DCU know that?
Three of batman's biggest failures that were not showcased in the DCAU, were as I'm listing: 1. NOT saving Jason Todd in time. 2. NOT saving his son Damian Wayne in time. 3. NOT REALIZING THAT THE JOKER WOULD TRY AND KILL COMMISSIONER GORDON'S DAUGHTER, AND TRY AND MAKE GORDON GO INSANE.
Why is Damian dying more of a failure than Jason dying? Jason had become like Bruce’s son and he died first. Jason’s death shaped Bruce more than ever since the death of his parents. He was in a constant state of turmoil, that even Nightwing, Alfred and almost Tim Drake couldn’t make him move on from Jason’s death. And before you give the “Damian is the biological son” answer: Alfred commented in a comic (forgot the name) that while Jason sees himself as another Robin, he and Bruce see Jason as a son to them both. So I don’t see why Damian has to be up high on your list while Jason death is a measly #3 place. It should be the #1 place, if anything.
I mean the person that killed him was Joker and Joker has done many other things to the bat family and DC in general so I definitely think creating the Joker would be worse
I think Jason todd should be at number 2 because it was a way bigger deal in the comics and batman says Jason's death is his biggest failure while damains death is barely ever mentioned
@@killmonger5097 It was for around three years or more, not one. And you do realize that Jason is legally his son as well, right? Bruce has legally adopted Dick, Cass, Jason, and Tim, so they are just as much his kids as Damian is. Biological relation to Bruce doesn’t make Damian more important than his siblings. You can be related to someone but them not be your family relationship-wise; and you can have no blood relation to someone but them be your family relationship/bond-wise. Family by blood ≠ family by relationship/bond. That said, Bruce was significantly affected by Jason’s death, and he’s never fully gotten over it. Then there’s the fact that Joker frequently taunts the Batfamily about it.
Stephanie Brown; alias Spoiler. Child of lesser-known villain Cluemaster; alias Arthur Brown. First canon universe female Robin. (Technical first was Carrie Kelly from DKR)
Something i'm still confused about in terms of the famous Killing Joke scene is why didn't Barbara just defend and disarm the Joker before he could shoot her? She has the skills and the training to do so yet decided to just turn and run (at least in the arkhamverse).
Probably because she was shocked to see the Joker unexpectedly. It was like a horror movie and apparently, horror movie logic was applied in that situation.
Or she probably didn't recognized him in disguise after she gave up being batgirl, witch she should had until it was too late and put her own father in danger.
I'm not being funny but ppl r saying Damian is a failure but literally batman failed Tim and Jason wha more than Damian. If u think about it Damian was a success by batman as batman saved Damian and made him a better person teaching him right from wormg but with Tim he got one of Tims parents killed and with Jason he got him killed. But with dick and Damian he saved them from becoming something worse and made them better ppl.
In Arkham Batman, Barbara being paralyzed by Joker wasn't Batman's failure(even though he blames himself), but Batgirl's failure, because she knew most, if not ALL of Batman's moves, so it was her failure due to lack of action because she disarmed people's gun's before, so why didn't she do it on Joker? I'm not hating on Batgirl, but knowing the moves she knows should have saved her spine.
The second before I opened the RU-vid app I thought of Thanos saying “You could not live with your own failure” and then the first video in my recommended is this
If we go by the comics, the Joker was a man who used the Red Hood helmet to enable himself to safely traverse effluent-laden waters to secure an escape from chemical and pharmaceutical labs and factories. One time, when Batman happened to be the one stopping instead of a regular security team, he dove into an effluent stream, as he had before, and this time, the hood leaked. Batman's presence was irrelevant to the change; it was the result of the Red Hood helmet leaking. No less, no more.
Batman couldn't save Jack Ryder from being The Creeper in Batman animated series episode BewareThe Creeper (To be a prototype Freakazoid) and in BatmanThe Braves and Bold He was responsible for creating Plastic Man.Two of them are now Anti-Heroes.Needlemouse Didn't mention those two especially Plastic Man and he the first funny and Goofy Superhero in 40's before Deadpool and Freakazoid(my two favorite Comedians) where even created, plus he in the injustice comics.
Ricardo Santos suprising fact is that the Creeper in Batman the Animation series is not the one in comic. Bruce Timm just created a proto Freakazoid because Freakazoid just became a silly cartoon instead of action.
Fun fact about the Joker crippling Barbra. Near the end of the No Man's Land comic arc, the Joker kills Commissioner Gordon's second wife, and in response Gordon shoots one of the Joker's kneecaps out. The Joker actually laughed at this because he realized Gordon was doing to him what he did to Gordon's daughter.
Honestly to me Jason's death was a far bigger failure than Damian's. After he was brought back to life, the first thing Damian did was hugging his father and telling him that he loved him. Jason however never got over the thrauma, hence why his relationship with Batman is so fragile and constantly on the verge of breaking.
5:51 what he means by blood son is because talia al'ghul had Bruce Wayne's blood (somehow) and cloned it (with the help with ra'shal ghul) and trained to become a member of the leauge of assassins. Later older, he is adopted by batman (i think)
Batman has said Barbara Gordon and Jason Todd were his greatest failures. Not so much Damian because Bruce also brought him back later. But yeah, I guess what happened to Barbara and Jason wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t accidentally created the Joker.
I just saw the joker movie yesterday and I have to say it was incredible strongly recommend watching it. The portrayal of the joker is very interesting and perfectly done to represent the psicotic mind of the joker
I really love the channel and its content, and no disrespect when I say this, but how are you going to put of Bat’s failures in front of the one that Batman Himself has said to be his “greatest failure”?
Darth Stalker Joker and the rest of Gotham's villains made the choices and created themselves. They say Batman created them because they don't want to admit they fucked themselves up.
Batman never created the Joker. The Killing Joke origin isn't canon since the Joker says he perfers his past to be multiple choice. Meaning, that whole story about a unnamed man with a pregnant wife could be a hoax. The Joker never really told his real origin because he either doesn't remember or refuses to tell anyone.
well why wont batman just ask the flash to time travel and stop him from creating the joker in the first place. i kno w theres gonna be all this timelines shinanigans but there are ways to change time in a proper way while having only a couple of things different.
Beating Superman. When that happened there was a divide between fans. More people were saying Batman was overrated and others started saying Superman was boring.
Batman creating The Joker is only his fault by self blaming. No one truly knows what could have happened differently. Not even characters in fiction. Batman only faults himself for creating his own archenemy which is understandable if you see through his point of view.
