Thx for your video and people feedback as I almost purchased it but will passed since the battery issues. Video audio notifications WiFi and temperature will impact the battery lifetime. Great idea but myq might need to create a model with power hardwire or solar panel charger option. See ya guys and happy holidays ✌🏼

Great update! I've been following your posts on this, and as I mentioned previously, my initial battery life was just a few days with intermittent disconnect (with garage door closed) and difficulty invoking the live video feed. Total fix for me was a Netgear mesh WiFi extender placed just inside the passage door from house to garage (placed high, above that steel door). I'm now on week 9 since last charge with 26% remaining (I'll be swapping the battery soon). My settings are full ON notifications, with video Recording and Person Detection ON. Motion sensitivity has been in the default LOW (step 2 of the 5 options) but I've recently upped it to level 4 (as I noticed it missed detecting a UPS delivery the other day -- usually picks them up fine) and it still takes two days to drop just 1% battery. I've yet to notice any false motion triggers. For me, the Netgear Mesh extender properly placed was the absolute win. Also, I did the firmware update yesterday and noticed a new Face Detection option in the menu (located in the Account menu on main MyQ opening screen). It offers to scan & save faces to tell you who is being detected. I opted to leave that off -- maybe a cool feature for some but it's not the people I know that concern me, it's the unknowns (and I'm not interested in adding faces of my family and myself to an internet database). Have not seen/heard of other specific changes with new firmware. I'm absolutely thrilled with the performance of this little unit after getting the WiFi signal strength where it needs to be. EDIT: just to add my location is Nebraska, it's December with lows typically in the 20s°F. No doubt battery life will change when we get some real winter temps, we'll see.

Wow that's awesome! Thanks for following along and I'm glad you have found it helpful. More importantly I'm glad you found a good solution to your battery issues. It's beginning to look a lot like the WiFi radio is what's causing a lot of these issues when it has a weak signal. Thank you so much for adding your update and what you did to resolve it. I also agree, it works really well and it makes me sad so many are having issues and not able to experience it as it's meant to be experienced! Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Cold weather update: Seems to perform well down to, and just below, zero degrees F, but motion triggers at -13ish (F) have totally zapped the battery the past couple nights. Our low temps the past five nights (Nebraska, USA) have been 15, 4, -7, -17 and -15. It made it through until that -17 night. I received a "disconnected from network" notification those last two nights as car headlights triggered a recording (we live on a corner where turning cars' headlights strike my garage area a couple times per night). Fresh 100% battery swapped the next morning after the -17 and it happened again about 12 hours later with the -15 night. With both incidents I checked the outdoor temp at the time of the triggered recording and it seems -13 was the fatal temp both times. Good news is that it performed great down to single digits and a bit below zero. And even better news is these extreme cold snaps are rare for us! It looks like one more night and we'll be back to normal winter temperatures. Until then I'll have that second battery charged and ready for a swap.

@@shadduck Wow, that's awesome! I really appreciate your continued updates. It really helps understand the battery usage. It definitely seems that most of the battery drain problems are wifi radio-related. My temps are 20's for the highs and a couple nights in single digits, and it has done really well.

I've eliminated video and notifications so basically, it's just a keypad. Battery still lasted about a week. I think the issue is the wifi receiver. It's very weak, and can not connect through metal garage doors. Even with turning off video and notifications it must still try to connect to wifi for live view.. You may not have a faulty wifi receiver in your particular keypad. I have 2 garage doors each with a Myq video keypad and both get a fair signal. It gives a notice that a fair signal will cause a battery issue. When I open garage doors the signal is strong. I have an extender in the garage 12 feet away. I also have a wifi camera and 3 smart wifi bulbs just outside garage doors. They receive a strong signal with garage door closed. My Samsung phone just outside garage door receives a strong wifi signal. Keypad always shows fair and live view never connects with doors closed.

Yeah I bet you are correct, similair to a cell phone that has a bad cellular signal and keep trying to connect it will drain the battery much faster that with a strong signal. They really do need to look into this, thanks for the update I appreciate you comment!

Maybe the quality of the extender (and are you absolutely certain the keypad connected to it vs the weaker router signal that you're extending?). I'm speculating but your description is EXACTLY the experience I had initially. After placing a Netgear Mesh extender just inside the entry door to the garage from the house (placed high above the steel door) the Keypad works great. Solid video connection on demand with the garage door closed and now on week 9 since last charge and battery is at 26%. Notifications are full ON with video Recording and Person Detection ON. Motion sensitivity has been in the default LOW (step 2 of the 5 options) but I've recently upped it to level 4 and it still takes two days to drop just 1% battery. For me, the Netgear Mesh extender properly placed was the absolute win.

Defn avoid this thing if you experience a Canadian winter, entire thing freezes right up. Not sure why they even sell it up here.

Battery takes 12ish hours to charge lol. Also they charge a subscription for this, which is unfortunate because we have ring security already and paying per month on that. All these monthly subs is just annoying, Amazon and MyQ should combine that subscription model since they integrate with ring and my MyQ garage door opener itself. Also MyQ needs to have a zone map you can tweak because I set mine up to look outside of the garage towards my driveway for extra security. Great product but they need more improvements and it will be solid! Also the WiFi signal on the keypad is not good… I tested putting a spare satellite router in my garage and still the signal is weak and is literally 12 feet away… I don’t get it, I have very good WiFi routers that I can go down the block as still have full signal. The issue with the keypads are the WiFi signals, they are no good!

I totally agree there is a lot of room for improvement, and from what I can see on their community forums, they are really listening to the users. The time to charge is way too long for sure, another reason why I bought a second battery for a quick swap.

My battery only lasts for 6 days. I put a comment on their Facebook ad and they sent a PM to my messenger to ask for my address so they can send me an extra battery free of charge. I got the extra battery after a week. Great customer service but still annoying that the battery doesn’t last long even the new one I got. I think my problem is the WiFi signal.

The signal is weak and the router is far from it. I have a ring stick up cam just above it and the battery lasts about 3 weeks.

@@sanjuanjun Interesting, it does appear then that the poor battery performance can be linked to poor wireless signal. Sounds like the adapter they use in the device is consuming a lot of power trying to stay connected. Thank you for the information!

Yes, I think it’s the signal being weak and it keeps connecting causing it to drain the battery. I hope a firmware update can correct this.

WiFi sucks on these devices with very high end mesh routers 6E! Says I have poor signal and it’s in my garage.. very unfortunate

Again, agree 100%! After having many people comment on my videos about the battery, it definitely seems to be a common denominator for the poor battery life some are experiencing. I, too, have some good, brand-new WiFi 6E mesh devices, and it says my connection is fair. That being said I have no issues loading the video stream remotely and I have consistently gotten 8-9 weeks out of each battery charge so I'm good with that. Like you said earlier, once they iron out some of the kinks this will be a fantastic product.
