Well, there's a kinda historical anime based on America but it's set during the "dry law" called 91 Days, it has lower production values and it's far shorter than Vinland Saga but the story is not half-bad. Aside from real events this show is so good because the author knew how to use such characters to tell a meaningful story about love, war and revenge.

a lot of people didn't understand when the priest said "what made the alcohol", it's a reference to jesus when he turned water into wine.
