In the 13th of many Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 1v1 online battle videos, I take the forces of the Tau against the Necron.
The Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 beta is currently open to anybody who has preordered the game. Set in the grim dark universe of Warhammer 40K, the game will have multiple campaigns to play across multiple factions, and will include online skirmishing and ranked gameplay. @@sabothbrainiac5844 100% agree, but even earlier. At 7:50 the necrons start turning and I'm feeling suspicious, and by 8:00 - 8:10 I'm certain what what the opponent is going for... and PE sits there for the next 60 seconds looking at pretty colors T.T

mmm yeah, it looks like the star pulse wave is going to need to be reduced in power. The range, combined with that damage upfront, let alone the potential output for landing it multiple ships, makes it do all the work for the Necron player. A star pulse from a single Necron ship shouldn't cripple your main line like that.

I like the vid but, watching three of your main ships get ripped apart because you were admiring the paint instead of separating them more was so painful to watch lol. Still looking forward to more vids though. Keep it up!

Recent Necron codex made it so they can fail leadership and run off the tabletop. It's seen as the self-preservation program over-riding the command protocols given by the commander. So a mutiny could be seen as an extension of that. Since they can't "run" away whilst on a ship unless the ship moves. Plus, Necron lore now allows for necrons higher than base warriors to gain more personality and intelligence with time and experience. So the race isn't doomed to die once all their current leaders are dead. What makes zero sense is Tyranids performing a mutiny. The entire ship is one big hivemind and thus wouldn't lose control of its crew.

@@keldor8302 Except it's proven in the lore that when a 'nid's synaptic connection to the hive mind breaks down, the 'nid reverts to a total base and bestial form. So while the ship probably wouldn't run away, it'd likely be destroyed from the inside out.

You don't seem to have any plan at all with this fleet. Are you a short range or a long range fleet? If long range, then why is the war sphere there? If it's to give you better balance or defense against other short range fleets, then it has to be in the center of your formation, not on a flank where it can be ignored. If you're a short ranged fleet, then maybe get rid of the rail guns, drop a cruiser or two for a second war sphere, and run in stealth to get as close as possible. Either way, pay attention to the strategic points. You controlled 4/5 strategic points and instead of fading back and spreading out and forcing the Necrons to take damage coming to you, you bunched up and got closer, playing right into their strengths. Sorry to be so harsh. But at some point you'll have seen enough God rays and texture maps and you'll want to form a coherent plan to win. The fleet you have now is a good one to try out those ships and see what they're good at, but if you're really trying to learn you should not use the same fleet over and over, nor should you be using the same upgrades over and over. P.S.-- I do really like the choice to use a lot of escorts, which seems to be a strength of the Tau, and something I think many players could do more of in general. Being able to scout the other side and contest strategic points is valuable. You should however put some of those escorts in front of your main group, so that they can screen properly. In this battle, your opponent knew your entire composition and location before you knew anything about him. That's because he screened his fleet and you didn't. And also because you use your probes prematurely. Anyway, you still have the best BFGA2 content on youtube. Looking forward to seeing you improve in the next beta.

I haven't played the game yet. And watching these vids gives me a headache sometimes. He doesn't seem to really read and put together what all his ships can do and remember that when he gets into a game. Which makes things frustrating to watch as a spectator. The fact that he wins sometimes despite not utilizing what is available makes me facepalm.

Yeah, he doesn't seem to read up on all the ships and put their abilities and stats into context to form a strategy. "This looks cool and i won with it...so i'll just keep using it the same way." Seems to be how he goes about things. Frustrating to watch.

Maybe you should record these games and cast them after? The problem is that you keep finding pretty pictures to stare while the enemy kills you which is super annoying to watch.

Visuals are great, but can be even more breathtaking. There was a button for hiding a hud in the 1st game. It looked gorgeus. I hope there is one here too.

The problem with the Tau is that their *dakka* do very little damage. Yes, their ships have alot of weapons and good range. But their accuracy is very low and do little damage. They are also quite slow

Necrons are technically a melee race like orks or tyranids but with better ranged weapons so as necrons people should always get as close as possible to the enemy teleporting units to them asap. plus their weapons are 360 in arc so they dont even have to manouver them. while tau imo should played as more spread out as possible encircling the enemy keeping them in a crossfire and so races like necrons cant use their starpulse on all of their ships at once. (after all the tau is a hunter race )

Necron AoE seems kinda broken, since you can pop it as soon as you warp and it deals so much damage. Get in close, hit button, instant win in a huge AoE

I chuckled at that comment when he said that he easily gets distracted, because when he said that while looking over the 'shoulder' of the Tau light cruiser up-close; we the viewers saw the slow-ass necron fleet edging closer. And in the back of our minds we said, "here it comes...," moment later the necron player deletes his cruisers.

I can tell you really didn't play Tau on BFG 1 as you aren't using their strengths too well, you need a screening escort 1-2 ahead of your long range capitals. You need to have more missile firing ships to maximize the focus damage from long range. And you really need to have a plan on your movement too, as many players mistake Tau just move little bit then stop to fire, when you should start moving in a flanking maneuver while firing. If you use kroot ship, it needs to be your first damage soaker which is the only thing it's good for.

you are terrified of the pulse wave... but you keep your escort engagement range within the same wave's range? hmmm ok... like... i don't understand, you already knew the wave would wipe the escort out so why keep them in range of it? you can fire like from outside that range

That battle was a perfect encapsulation of what it means to be a Tau in the W40k universe. Weak. Easily overrun. Only capable of winning via technical application of rules. And not even then.

Are tau torpedoes still the unlimited range homing monsters they were in the first game?

Yes, but torpoedoes are way toned down. They do not have unlimited turning radius, so escorts can burn past them to buy more time. Mostly though, they are limited in quantity and die very quickly to point defenses. They do kill isolated 3 turret escorts that do not manage to get protected by enemy carriers, or even other light cruisers or escorts, but other than that, they are tricky to use. Just look at what 2 seeker torpedoes did at 12:26. Against 7 unbraced turrets (an imperial light cruiser in brace for impact has 12 turret value), the torpedoes managed to move about .... 2k units before both being shot down. I don't have a feel for what turret range is yet, but it feels like it's about 4.5k. Against a stationary light cruiser in brace for impact, you probably need 8 torpedoes for even 2 of them to land. Against a light cruiser in brace for impact that burns away from you, I suspect you could launch like 20+ torpedoes and none would connect. If your opponent is closing with you, badly damaged, you are firing them from EXTREMELY close range, or you are firing against very isolated escorts, they can do work. but against capital ships? you better have a fighter screen up to distract the turrets. AND they better not be burning away from you. Unguided torpedoes in this game are actually so weak as to be almost useless, except for eldar which have no torpedo spread and can get large volleys off at minimum arming distance. I am not sure if seeker torpedoes are actually useless (because they don't share a cooldown with strike craft, have an overlapping role, and when fired in combination with fighters, they may be relevant), but they share the low health that other torpedoes have, and the limited quantity. Also, of note, they do friendly fire damage. you can very much kill your own escorts if you have them in front of a seeker missile ship at the start of a battle, which is a real issue for tau who are already really tough to control well.

You should have kept moving your forces once in range to flank them from multiple sides instead of sitting there and you never used you scouts at after the capped

Not, they are actually one of the worst factions along with space marines, very fragile and slow with a single cheap tactic (teleport > wave) to salvage game, but they can barely do anything against most factions if they spread out.

just by watching your tau playstyle... i would say you need to take out a good portion of your small ships. just have 1 or two that you keep in stealth and cap with wile concentrating firepower into main ships. i their "quirk" seems to be range? well range doesnt matter much when half the enemies stealth teleport or are 2x faster than you. so im thinking tau murderball.

Oh how I wish this was Star Wars. It has the potential to be the best Star Wars space battle game to date. But alas we have 40k and I'm not complaining whatsoever. However, I have my preference for Sci-Fi satisfaction and it will always be Star Wars. For now my wife and I occasionally play the Star Wars: X-Wing tabletop game to get our fix. Plus it's nice to display the fleet of ships we've acquired over time. Still enjoying the content nonetheless. Keep up the good work my friend.

That Star Pulse Wave stuff is just waaaaaay too strong right now. You would have won if it weren't for the obliterating power of that. I reckon it would be better if it had fixed damage that it shares between ships. So against one ship it's potent. But against three, it's just 1/3rd of the damage to all three.

Dude, you gotta make better use of your assets. The warsphere was sitting there 50% of the time, not getting a single shot off. Instead you waited for the necron drives to recharge. You also wasted a lot of time on your experimental railgun. Use it when you can get a shot off. Instead you waited until they blew your ship up, effectively wasting one or two shots. If you take certain ships and abilities into battle you have to use them. stop using the warsphere if you leave it in the artillery formation, it's useless that way. It's pretty obvious it's intended for boarding and close range fighting.

Honestly I think this game is quite basic in terms of movement options. In this game all the fighting is done on a single plane and you can't manoeuvre a spacecraft under or over another ship. There could be a lot more options to be had for strategy if you could go under or over another. There could potentially be armour or weapons weaknesses on the underbelly of a ship AND stronger armour or weapon strengths on top.

There's too much focus on keeping it similar to the table top game. I was in the same boat with the first game, lack of true 3d movement in modern space games rustles my jimmies especially since homeworld did it in 1999.

Not really "their abilities" Just one. Star pulse wave. Star pulse wave is both so overpowered it clearly has to be nerfed, and the only thing that is holding up what is otherwise clearly the second worst faction in the game... not even without it. Just if it was even toned down to function in it's primary role, I think necrons would start giving space marines a run for their money for "Worst faction in the game". They are super vulnerable to template weapons, because their ships have a very inflexible movement mechanic. As soon as you jump, you cannot high energy turn or boost, so you just get templated to death. nova cannon spam in particular wrecks them. Also, most ships have shields to absorb the first nova cannon shot, and many capital ship have shields to absorb the first 2+, and then brace to mitigate the small number remaining that actually connect. Not so the necrons, who just eat every nova cannon that is placed on them unless they teleport. The meta is just to find the cairn, drop nova cannons one at a time until he teleports, then drop everything on him. Their cairn is flat out terrible: it's got the same fighter escort as the scythes, making it super vulnerable to being bombed, and it cannot brace, so it takes basically 33% more damage from bombers of all other major capital ships. It's turret value is also not good. They are very vulnerable to ramming, because they are not immune to morale and cannot brace for impact (which negates morale damage from ship collisions). They are also super vulnerable to critical hits, which is a problem for all expensive ships in this game, but particularly for the expensive ships without shields. I feel like their guns are good, and their theme is great: they have super powerful guns which just shred enemies at medium range, but they have the best, most intricate ships in the game, so you don't want to just ram them into other people like orks with retrofitted asteriods. They also have a cool interaction with stasis bubbles, because their guns do not have flight time and they do not use strike craft or torpedoes: you can shoot through stasis bubbles but your opponents cannot get bombers through, or for that matter, macro cannons. The problem is that the vision of them as one of the slowest factions in the game is just not working. At all, and while a long cooldown teleport is acceptable in single player, it just does not work against a competent human player.

I think it will be pretty good already if devs just nerf the starpulse, remove health regen cap, increase regen from 1 point per second to 4 or 5 points and remove permanent critical damage for Necrons! :p

@@R2700x I like the sentiments, I am not sure about the specifics. I think that removing the health cap would be a big mistake. It would make for really tedious kiting matchups, and necrons can in fact disengage. Regenerating half your hit points every battle is already a lot, and the necrons can already disengage and reeengage repeatedly, because of how gauss whips ignore shields. I think the game would just get super tedious, in short, even if you could balance it. As for the rest, to be honest, I am not the guy to comment. I don't even really remember how everything worked in the beta any more. What does pyramidal reconstruction do? not sure. What's the cauterization delay for regen stance? is there one? don't recall. Which weapons prevent necrons from regenerating for a while? I think it might have something to do with some of the dark eldar stuff?
