I don't know who Jona is, but it sounded like Patti, Beyoncé (a strong Mezzo-Soprano), and Melba all used Operatic technique -- even though they are pop singers. I don't think Patti Labelle has ever had any formal training, either. Sohyang is also a very strong Soprano and lives up there, but the person that made tis didn't use the best clips.
@@takemyhand1988 I can't find any reference to that at all. In fact, I seem to her saying the opposite. Where did you hear/read that from? I thought she said she just came from the church and began singing when she was really young.
@@evaneleven17 obviously Filipino will back up their Filipino singers...you will see this trend any videos when it involves Filipino singers even tho their singers is messed up they still try hard to make their singers look great🤣 Jona is not that well actually but their comment makes her like she is great when the truth is so so....💅

@geminikid1617 It's in her biography, Don't Block the Blessings. She says it on the Masked Singer, in multiple television interviews, in concerts, etc. You can google it. You will never find any source where she said anything other than she has unequivocally never had a singing lesson. It doesn't exist anywhere. I wish people would just stop making up BS and trying to pass it along as fact.
Obviously this is an area where opera singers are going to win but some of these other singers stood up very well against them I think the best were 1.Kristin Chenoweth 2.Jonalyn Viray 3.Patti LaBelle 4.Whitney Houston 5.Sohyang
Patti Labelle has other videos of her using her head voice reaching and sustaining much higher notes than this with an equal amount of volume/projection as ANY of the opera singers here! Should have searched Patti Labelle No Mic because she actually puts some Opera singers to shame !
This is like putting house cats in the Savanna with lions; when it comes to head voice, the Opera singers take it. The non-opera singers that held their own are: 1. Kristen 2. Patti 3. Melba 4. Whitney & 5. Jona
Actually Kristin chenoweth got classically trained as a Coloratura soprano, she sang in LaTravia and candide (operetta / light ) , she's done opera so it's pretty unfair to put her in the non opera singer category
I love that you use some great operatic singers of the past: Stella, Freni, Carteri. The only non-operatic singers that stood a chance here are Patti and Whitney! Others are simply underdeveloped or have no chest at all.
Melba Moore sang classical and very well. Incredible chest voice too. Celine has a good chest voice but her head voice is underwhelming. Faouzia’s chest voice is good but no head voice. Melonie Daniels had both but lost head voice with age. She is older in this clip. Jona has a good head voice but her chest voice is underdeveloped. Kristin Chenoweth is an incredible coloratura with a proper head voice and chest voice. Although she does sometimes sing classical so I’m not sure why she’s in here. I do find it also confusing why almost all examples are dramatic or spinto sopranos though from classical. And mostly verismo singers.
@Noack Somewhere Souliotis while a lyric sang spinto and her approach was very dramatic. There's no singers in this video that sing in lighter or traditional Bel canto fashion. The only true Bel canto singers here are Callas and Carteri. And even those are not traditional. IMO this creates the pretense of dramatic or ala dramatic singing being the only sound in opera when it is simply not true. Most of Stella's rep was dramatic too.
Notice the contemporary singers need lots of reverb and echo (especially Beyonka). The opera singers sound mostly raw, seems to be acapella w/ no mics tbh.
I will rate all opera singers are the queen for Head Voice,the projection,the ringing,the emotion,the vibrato,the piercing, the volume like WAW 😱 THEN come Sohyang👸 Queen of Headvoice in Asia...just listen to her current Wild Flowers cover ..so CONSISTENT and Angelic....
The only ones that stood a chance and sounded decent compared to the opera singers were Patti, Melba and Kristin! I thought Whitney would slay too but her clip was not impressive!
