After the demise of the classic Radio One(1967-2008)radio was lost to audience aiming radio stations where they are aiming at the younger generation. Today's radio is a far cry from the radio I tuned into in the 60s70s and 80s. Radio One Vintage should have been made a permanent GOLD station. It reminded people of the days when Radio One was the best station on the planet. Was but not anymore.
Takes me back to my childhood I have some wonderful memories of those days listening to the radio with my parents, They were simple times but truly happy times,
It's great we hear Tony B then and that he is still around now. Plus 50 years. Great longevity. One of the few that enjoy presenting and playing music.
That Peter Powell jingle reminded me of the good ol' Capital Radio jingles. (To me one of the best ever stations with an eclectic set of brilliant DJs like cuddly Kenny Everett and Peter Young, both sorely missed IMO).
☺☺☺☺ (from the 70s) On my solid state transistor radio cost me Two pounds from Rumbles at Hornchurch high street with an ear plug I would sit in Suttons school class room Listening to radio one...
That will have been either late 60s or 80s - it certainly wasn't a mid-70s jingle like all the others!! I don't remember it and it's not among any mid-70s R1 jingle packages I've ever heard.
Written by (I do believe) Kenny Everett a classic Disc Jockey from when Radio One first started. Kenny was known for making his own jingle packages. In fact he had his very own studio built for just such a job. Music Hour By Hour Too Much Oh Your Tower It's Great Odd tower Music Hour by hour Up To Date Wonderful BBC.
Thanks for that think i'd heard that info somewhere , somebody will know him . On the Arnold story I remember Tony Blackburn saying once he was a black labrador it almost makes him real .
fantastic .if only we could go back, thanks you tube and disc jockeys esp tony Blackburn a fantastic disc jockey, but to numerous to mention they were all good and the TV and radio was great ,and our country was our country'' great britain''plenty of employment .now look at the state of our country we have got nowt we had shipyards, coalmines, steelworks metal works, factories shops breweries farming fishing etc etc etc and the elite have demolished the lot and gave it to other country's all what our forefathers built on shear hard back braking work .vote out of europe
The "summer radio" Peter Powell jingle was Chris Rainbow, yes. He did some generic ones which he renamed for different DJs on Radio 1 and Capital (not sure about elsewhere)
This is when radio one was actually good to listen too, it's really awful now!, I cought a couple of minutes of it when listening to radio two last night, barely recognisable compared to this!
