Wow! Sorry that happened to you. I own a 2016 jeep cherokee north and never had any issues. Not one! Drove at slippery and icy roads here in Calgary, Alberta where winter is one of the worst and never got stuck. The engine would run even at -40 degrees Celsius and I don't even have to plug in the engine block heater. It would plow through 2 feet of snow. Transmission shifts smoothly and even got me through deep mud (currently have Wilpeak AT3 TIRES) where any other vehicles wouldn't even dare venture in the jobsite. My Dad owns a 2014 Jeep cherokee trailhawk and he didn't have the same issues as you have. Same with my cousins 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk and his brother who owns a 2018 jeep compass trailhawk who also shares the same transmission. They have not had these issues that you had. I asked a jeep technician regarding your claimed issues and it looks like it is a electronic issue.
This happened to me 2 days ago...& I got the Jeep Cherokee 2016 4 months ago at 38,000 miles. When I took it to the dealer, they said nothing is wrong & cant find a code...It’s irritating because its happened twice. I just have to turn it off, & start up again
Hi Darian, I, unfortunately, research the problem with this 9 speed trans after my purchase. It is a very common problem with this German-made transmission.
4 sure big crap to own" 2.4 no power while accelerating, no transmission dipstick" no option to set the A/c Face or to the foots or both" cheapest design ever" I regret having this crap" 😔
I loved my 2022 Cherokee TrailHawk. Coolest vehicle I’ve ever owned. Right up until the transmission scared the heck out of me and my wife. Then I found out what a nightmare these 9 speed transmissions have been for Cherokee owners. Got rid of my TH quick.
There is actually nothing wrong with the gearbox, its due to the car battery going flat, (low voltage). It seems to be a common problem with Jeep Cherokee KL's, as they run a lot of electronics and are very sensitive to voltage drops. The ECU (computer) will shutoff certain features to the car if it senses the voltage too low. I just had the same issue 2 days ago and my battery was very low. Replaced the battery and now it's fine. A temporary fix is to disconnect your battery (negative terminal) and let it sit for 20-30mins). It will reset the computer, as long as your battery is not completely drained it should restart and drive normal. However you will need to get a new battery ASAP. Trust me on this, your gearbox is fine!
Had this happen on wife’s car about 3 months after purchase. It was used but looked to be in good condition. Since it was intermittent, I suspected it wasn’t mechanical. Checked fuses and tested the battery. Battery was good BUT died after 2-3 weeks of this ongoing issue. Replaced the battery and problem never returned.... All the while we were waiting for the dealer appointment. I never got any sort of explanation from the dealer. They checked it and told us everything checked out. They flashed it too. I suspect that the battery was beginning to fail and somehow affected the computer upon startup. Have owned the car 5 years now and the issue has never returned. Also, haven’t needed to replace the battery since ( might replace that bad boy just in case....).
I bought my 2016 TH 3.2 9spd a couple months ago…full service history from Jeep, the owner keep all records, and certified from Jeep. Knock on wood, no issues yet. Tech is great to have and mine has everything, even parks itself. These issues are all computer related for the most part and updates thankfully have resolved most of them…well, except for the rear driver side squeaky seat…have to either fold it down or have someone sit in it lol. Going to grab a can of dry silicone spray and hope for the best. At the end of the day, price we pay for all the goodies we demand. I am just going to hope that I don’t run into some of the issues mentioned above. 🤞
Thanks for making this video, our 2016 Cherokee Trail Hawk is doing the identical thing we requested a buy back from Jeep. I have also filed a Lemon Law Arbitration just in case Jeep refuses.
I have a 2016 jeep cherokee with 66k miles just got it almost 5 months ago & it just started shaking out of nowhere while I was driving. The engine light cuts on & off and a big A with an arrow and an exclamation point around! Thinking about getting rid of it
I have a 2015 Cherokee Latitude. Something in this Jeep trashed a new ten month old battery and kept having starting issues. I replaced it today and now have a hard CLUNK when I put it in gear. I dont want to drive it for fear of trashing the trans or causing an acccident. Now what!? I'm scheduling liftgate recall tomorrow to be done asap hoping an uodaye is available and hope I make it there without getting killed. I am afforded no other choice.
Crazy, as I bought and now paid off my 2016 Jeep Cherokee V6 model and never have had any issues. I use synthetic oil, and K&N filter and runs great. Sorry for your troubles.
I have a 2016 grand Cherokee summit, and took it for a diagnosed and some codes came out recalls but my engine light still on after a reset. Called the dealer ( jeep ) and they told me to drive it for few miles. But Im concerned.
I suggest describing your findings to Jeep Chrysler, and perhaps these issue with the, now well known, faulty German transmission issues could be resolved.
I have a 2014 cherokee trailhawk whick I just bought. The emergecy flashers come on whenever they want to and also shut off when never they want to. Probably going to cost big bucks to get it fixed.
Test your transmission pressure switch, most likely the sensor is bad (if your familiar with using a multimeter, disconnect the sensor and do n ohms test ( continuity test) , should read 0 if the sensor is good and if it read a crazy number or says “ OL “ it means the sensor is bad Hope i was able to help -Gringo’z Garage
sorry for your problem bro. I had a 2015 Cherokee. I kept it for 3 yrs and had to sell it before I encountered these guaranteed forthcoming problems. Im 52 yrs and never had a car I owned less than 11 yrs except for the crummy Jeep. Never again. Good luck with it
I have the exact same problem with my 2018 keep Cherokee, only has 40k on the odometer, I bought this vehicle brand new off the lot, and almost got into two major accidents trying to get home. Now that I am home the vehicle will not start, and the horn keeps honking like its getting broke into, I had to unhook the battery to shut it off ( key fob won't connect). Replaced key fob battery and reconected the battery and still wont stop honking or start.
Brakes are locked up and my engine is disabled, had it towed to the Jeep dealership and it's been there a month now and no progress. They can not figure it out, very dangerous vehicle.
I have a 2016 dodge Durango that has done it once it was an update that had to be done to the transmission and auto start stop system after the update was done has never done it again
So, Recently purchase the 2016 Cherokee limited. Has anyone had issues? I total can not stand the start/stop feature. Sometimes i forget to shut it off. Thanks in advance.
I work at a dealership, that buys allot of Jeeps for resale the ones with the most transmission issues are the Cherokees and grand Cherokees they almost never throw a code and yet will put the driver thru some very scary and very dangerous situations from bucking while driving at speeds of 30mph to my own personal experience of 65 mph, as well as unexpectedly switching into different driving modes while driving jeep should be sued period for not addressing this I have a15 Jeep Grand Cherokee 140k and have had trans issues since I bought it at 129k and I am currently replacing the trans for a newer one and expect to have problems with this too. Run when you see these vehicles someone could easily lose their lives just from owning one!? Jesus come on jeep!? or Chrysler?! or fiat or whatever you want to call yourself ! WTF
Same issues here. Just picked it up from the dealer and they said there was no code and this is about the tenth time this has happened and 9 of those times it's been on the busiest f-ing freeway (101). The last time it happened going uphill and the only thing I could do was let it roll backwards into the shoulder while traffic was going forward at 60 - 70 mph. It's scary as crap. I'm escalating this to jeep cares and see what happens. Bought it new for $42K 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
Well, the thing about the parking brake is if you have your door open when you start barely pulling forward the parking brake comes on that’s a safety feature. My jeep does it to me and it pisses me off every time.
OMGGGG I FEEL YOUR PAIN I HAVE SOO MUCH ISSUE WITH MY 2016 JEEP AND I JUST GOT IT. REPLACED THE TRANS AND STILL THE SAME ISSUES. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Yo I’m so glad I don’t have this problem but my airbag sensor is always on, also from time to time my car will like jump when I’m barely pressing the gas, not often at all but still it should NOT be happening and is very dangerous.
In My 2017 Cherokee the parking brake just randomly comes on all the time while driving and I’ve had one time so far that I put the car in drive and all the lights on the transmission selector started flashing
Manabozo, you are probably right, but after incidents, and much more research I learn that the 9 speed transmission made in Germany had a common defect, and was the culprit.
Hello Marvin, I want to warn people about the many problems in modern jeeps, and i wanted to ask you if it's alright if i use more than 30 seconds of this video?
My emergency brake was coming on. Had a leak into the module. Common issue with 2016. They are “considering” a recall. Mine cost a fortune to resolve… not under warranty!
I just bought a 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk a month ago. If you slow down it won’t downshift from 3 unless you come to a complete stop. It is flat out dangerous because if you pull out into traffic it won’t go. I am fighting with everything I have with the dealer. They basically refuse to acknowledge the issue. I am so close to hiring a lawyer if they don’t take this car back.
I took a black on black sport on a test drive and it was flawless didn’t have any problems I was afraid it wouldn’t be able to get out into traffic but it did and it was quick smooth and ready to dance. But if course it was new lol but I see people are still buying these heels I think you guys might have just got a bad one that might need servicing or a program flash
Hi I know this video was made 2 years ago but im having a similar issue with my 2017 grand cherokee trailhawk edition for example im going 85mph its still in 5-7th gear even though its a 8 speed automatic it doesn't wanna shift right
I have 76k on my 2017 Cherokee, v6 4wd model. In the shop now due to the transmission shifting hard or skipping gears. It’s never cut off though or stopped working.
Mine does the same thing I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it tho that’s just how these transmissions are they ride rough Dodge makes shitty transmissions.
This is 2021 and this a gotdamn shame this shit still happening to ALL these Cherokees. Someone I know just paid theirs off like 5 months ago and now this is happening.
I just bought a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk a month ago and this just happened to me 😩😩😩 It’s really scary. I’m literally crying and worry after reading all the complains. 😞
I had this exact problem and my mechanic changed my battery because he said everything couldn’t communicate because the battery was giving it enough to communicate. I got stuck in so many intersections. I called Chrysler and they said my car wasn’t a part of the recall. Now the 4wd light is coming on still so it’s back to the mechanic today.
What happened because I'm having the same exact problem rn and they telling me the same thing. I can't believe a bad battery could cause so many problems. My 4wd light has been on since a week after I brought it. And transmission light comes on randomly while I'm driving and car has no power to move.
I worked on a contract overseas and the company leased an entire fleet of Jeep Cherokees along with the Compass. Every single Cherokee had transmission issues. They often shift an random intervals and would lurch the vehicle ahead when shifting from 4th to 5th. Absolute worst modern vehicle I have ever driven. What's sad is that when visiting home, I see these everywhere.
I had this same issue i have a 2016 jeep Cherokee about a month ago I changed the throttle body haven’t had this issue sine now i having other problems
I have 2013 jeep Cherokee sport and my car is doing the same thing my drive is blinking algo it only moves 10 and it will look on neutral and i had to disconnect the battery to move shifter !
I had my 2015 Jeep Cherokee sport, the engineer light start turns on occasionly since 2017, send to dealer few times, they worked on it, and every time engineer light on again soon after got back my car. it then had big transmission problem 2019, can't backward, send the dealer since Sept 2019 to replace the power transimission, got my car back Jan 2020, and since Aug, 2020, it start popup the message " Shift P postion then to the desired gear", sometimes it can not move while driveing, It is very scary and dangerous, so frustrate.
I have a 2014 keep cherokee limited. The exact same thing happened to me as I was literally pulling out of a gas station and got stuck on a two lane road for 30 mins. This got me very worried and I was with my dad in the car . The parking brake randomly went on without me touching it, and the car started shaking when I left it on for more than 15 seconds
i have a 2014 Cherokee Trail hawk. Had new trans put in under warranty, after started having flashing light on gear selector. Had new wire harness installed from trans to shifter. Now having problems with car stalling after I fill up with gas. Found that the EVAP system is defective letting the EVAP system fill with fuel instead of vapors. Only quick fix is to not fill tank all the way. This car has been a complete NIGHTMARE. I will never buy another JEEP/Chrysler product again !!! Just a real piece of S*it
Not sure about the rest, but perhaps with the parking brake randomly turning on might be due to one of your doors being open. I know my 2017 Jeep Cherokee has a safety feature for turning the parking brake on if a door is open. Might be the problem to that particular thing. 🤔
@@Jeffenglar1970I fixed the EVAP issue by dumping good quality fuel system cleaner/lubricant in the tank. Started with two bottles at once, ran tank dry, refilled, and another bottle. Then a bottle every three months. Two years and counting.
It’s your door sensor not reading All products with an electronic parking brake will apply the parking break upon shifting into gear if any of the doors are sensed open. Safety feature !!
@@jasonlaguardia468 it's also in my 2017... This happens in a bunch of years because the jeep blogs ppl are talking about it and keep is not addressing it
I have a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee 75th anniversary. I am the only owner and I've been stuck now four times. 2 times in traffic, once in a taco bell lot and once in my own driveway. I get stuck, can't move and nothing helps at the time I have asked Jeep about this and they say no reports have been made, yet I see its a problem with many
I just bought the same vehicle last week (May 19, 2021). My check engine light came on last night (May 22) and when I plugged my FIXD computer into it, I got a P0303 code (cylinder 3 is misfiring). Talk about be mad 😡. I have an appointment made to take it back to the dealership tomorrow morning at 7am. I did purchase the extended warranty thank God! I live 60 miles from them so I am praying that I make it and the repairs can get done. After reading the comments and frustrations that so many people have with Jeep’s (which I thought was a good US made vehicle), I’m starting to have second thoughts. Think I might have to go back and rethink getting the INFINITI I was planning to buy. Here’s hoping the issue can get fixed. Thank you for sharing your experience with this vehicle. Appreciate it.
I have had my Jeep Cherokke for a about a month and the check engine came on yesterday morning when I drove to work and now the dash board light and the radio screen will not turn off or the radio
I bought 2018 brand new last yr, right before i pulled in my drive way leaving the dealer the car stopped in the road check engine came on... it started driving again i took it back to dealer it stopped on the highway just suddenly yes dangerous... they had put a different computer in it... i still dnt trust this car it jerks and stutter at times
Because of being stuck with the very same problems not knowing the problem until I viewed your video....🥴.so much for safely driving across country,I can't even get out of the parking lot🙄 Yet THANKSGIVING GLORIFYING HALLELUJAH,VERY HAPPY UNTO ***G💛D***THAT I'M NOT IN THE MIDDLE OFF ~ OF NOWHERE WITH 1000MILES OF HIGHWAYS IN EITHER DIRECTION !
That was actually what i was told I have a 2017 jeep grand cherokee and for the 4 months I've had it, the service shifter jas come on once each month. I will be going back to that dealership early Monday morning.
I’m having the same issue but after googling enough, the dealer needs to flash set the system. Basically a software update. I am going to a dealer soon.
@@regisnyder we tried the flash 4 times never fixed the issue. Jeep finally put a new trans in, but now havin EVAP problems. Cant fill the tank full or car stalls until EVAP empties itself. about 20 miles of hectic driving
I just paid off a 2015 Jeep Cherokee..haven't had any real problems. Except when I first got it.. I went to take off and it just shut off. It did this like on three different occasions..Guess what I needed? An oil change. The car was trying to prevent me from locking up my motor. Guess who stays up on her oil changes now. My service shifter light has come on.. and I just watched a video on how to fix it.. I'm praying Im able to enjoy this vehicle for a long time . I'm enjoying o car note. oh yeah I had to replace my radiator.
I too am having the same issues. Luckily it happened a block from my house. I was able to get it in the driveway. Took the battery out to check it. It was fine. Put it back, now just the engine light is on. Getting diagnostics on Wednesday.
Take one of your battery cable off and let it set for 5 minutes to rest the computer and your problem will be solved. I have the same year and model as yours and that's the only way i can get it to stop doing that
This is safety issue bro it was happened to me also And i asked i found out the company wants you to push brake before changing transmission I tried and it works !
Claire Burnsed it’s clear before you go push the brake then turn the transmission to D for example you’re stopping in traffic light and you put transmission to N normally, when the light gets Green the first step is push the brake then turn the transmission to D it wouldn’t stuck you anymore.
Good news and hope bro, really i just bought the same car 5 days ago and faced same issue at the traffic light and thought the car has a problem with its transmission, but i saw same warning that instruct to put down the break and change it to D bow it's ok.
Mustafaljuboori not a mechanic or a software engineer but car computers try and learn driving behavior. A new car will shift slightly different than an older car that’s been driven by the same person for a while. My guess is because the car can already change how it shifts, a software glitch that tries to shift the car into park isn’t unreasonable. I’d love to really know what’s up though
Not saying this is the case but was there a clean carfax? Any accidents or flood damage reported? A lot time dealers will sell salvaged vehicles and of course there’s electrical issues especially in newer cars. Also if you have the Uconnect service it will update on its own without having to take it into the dealer. That being said it definitely has some major issues and I would not try to drive it at all until the issues are resolved.
You know mine would do the same to me as well and would die mid turn into an intersection. Just now got home and my transmission was over heating. Bright orange glow and was scary and badly made it home putting up a hill
I have a 2014 jeep Cherokee and they are telling me its my rear differential and estimated around 2600 at a jeep dealership. I have an warranty of course they are not trying to cover. Pls help how did you get rid of yours?
