But what do you do about the holes you create from the screws? Doesn't it look bad when you take down the plywood?

Yes but you have wood or concrete 'putty' that is similar color as the wall that fills in the holes. If you ever have to attach again, the holes are already there and lined up so important to number the plywood to know where each piece goes.
