Bear McCreary wins Best Score & Music for God of War Ragnarök at The Game Awards 2022. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
@@TheOogenator1992 that is Bear McCreary the composer for the gow 2018 and ragnarok and he is 43 years old. Rob Zombie is 57 years old and he made no music for god of war
Raeb's Lament alone I think would've won. Its such a deep piece, done on such a rare and solemn instrument. I've always wanted to learn, but he's the main reason why I'm striving to get a hurdy-gurdy.
55% - People who thinks Xenoblade 3 should've won 30% - People who thinks God of War Ragnarok deserves it 10% - People who thinks Elden Ring should've won 5% - People who thinks Sonic Frontiers should've won Just your comment statistics guy here
@@doomset1231 did you just say 'anime music'? Thats gotta be one of the silliest statements uve heard in regards to this. Sure, not everyone likes anime, not everyone likes xenoblades hybrid orchestra/rock music, but anime music would just refer to music in anime. Its not a style, its just a place where music exists. Its like saying i dont like cars in america, when those same cars are all over the world. And do note, we arent exactly a minority.
@@f1reman237 ragnarok sold over 3 million more copies so I’d say you are a minority at least when compared to the game that did win the award. Also if you specifically meant people who like “anime music” aren’t a minority, I can confidently assume that you are.
@@EagleEyes500 doesn't change the fact that more people voted for god of war ragnarok . I think gow has amazing soundtrack . But everyone entitled to their opinion
@@pototat8405 Ah yes, the Console exclusive got more votes then the multiplatform game must be nice in that dream world of yours Also, you do know that winners are determined by a blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%) ?
@@cplay8712 just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s worse. You can’t say hip hop is worse than rock just because you don’t like hip hop. Best ost was in high competition
@@elkevinski You can dislike this type of game, but the soundtrack is amazing. God of War OST is too close of a moovie style. It works when you play. But I really don't want to hear it on a CD. For me It's a generic Soundtrack. Japanese composers are far better.
Bro I love Ragnarok, it’s in my top 10 favorite, but Xenoblade definitely deserved this award. The soundtrack was amazing and tracks like Moebius Interlink went hardcore. Everyone of us is entitled to an opinion on media we like and criticize. I’m just leaving my opinion in the sea of many others. For others that will see this message, please note that I don’t not want to be involved in any internet trifle.
@@rogelioayus yeah I’m well aware of that. I think part of the reason why GOW won was that’s despite Xenoblade getting more attention as of late, it is still rather niche and has a smaller audience compared to GOW. But hey, that’s just a theory a game theory.
I knew Xenoblade was never going to win Game of the Year but this award felt the most painful. The soundtrack to 3 was so tightly composed and layered, mixing some of the best parts of 1 and 2. Making flutes from scratch to make it sound as unique as possible. I get GOW needs to sweep, but it's upsetting
I just went and listened to the whole ost while working on a thing and... eh. It's definitely better than I expected but a lot of the tracks feel similar or just not nice to listen to while doing other things. I've heard that the music works really well in game to help with the mood but I prefer having music that is just always nice to listen to. Xenoblade 3 should have definitely won this award *in* *my* *opinion*
@@thegamewin100 I never said working out, just working on projects. And anyways, I wouldn't listen to this in the background because I just don't care for the soundtrack that much
@@Zxanonblade I love it the valkariye theme is nice odins thors heimdall got a remix which is alright the trailer song that goes pan pan pan pan pan pum but it’s kinda hard to find on RU-vid the dragon music is nice too
This should have easily went to xenoblade or elden ring God of war has like 3 memorable tracks at most while the other two have like over 20 memorable ones
@Anthony Mercado I agree, I am also upset that those other games were nominated, despite the fact that their ost’s were made by a wizard to merely make it seem like there was an ost when in fact the music was all fake ):
Literally the worst nominee to win. A Plague Tale should've taken but Elden Ring, Metal Hellsinger or XC3 have also banger OST. God of War soundtrack is a rehash of the previous game.
Seeing alot of Xenoblade 3 and GOW fans fighting over who got best ost. As a xenoblade fan Im really curious and want to sincerely ask GOW fans what yall think puts it above Xenoblade 3. I listened to it and thought it was really good, but its all the very standard "epic orchestral music." Its down to opinion, but I think xenoblade 3 is better because its much more unique and diverse with its sounds. What do yall think about these osts, and how did they make you feel? I sincerely ask yall to check out both osts because they deserve being listened to.
I am wondering why sonic frontiers was not in this category, it's either because they don't like that kind of music or is that they knew it was gonna win if it appeared there
Respectfully disagree with this award. Won't argue about the quality of the gameplay and story itself of GoW:R but I've had discussions with multiple people who have played Ragnarok and listened to Xenoblade 3's OST and they all agreed that it should've been an easy win. I mean we're talking about a music team that literally made their own custom pair of flutes to compose the soundtrack. Seems about as unique as you can get I'm glad about the flute guy having a ball during The Weight of Life segment during the GOTY orchestra 😆 I saw his name somewhere but I don't remember it tbh
Honestly, Xenoblade 3 deserved this win. I love this soundtrack as I was playing but I won’t be remembering any of it in a couple of years. Xenoblade 3’s music is still fresh my mind and I’ll remember it for years. Elden rings soundtrack was okay, but it definitely felt A LOT weaker compared to past Fromsoft OSTs.
Thing is Xenoblade 3 has the most unique soundtracks among all nominee, the flute really makes it superior, and the soundtracks are just outstanding and hit really hard with the cutscene. This is very disappointing.
One year later, and I loved the GOW:R soundtrack, but Elden Ring has one of the greatest soundtracks in video game history. I thought Ragnarok deserved it while watching TGAs, but I still listen to the Elden Ring soundtrack almost daily. Elden Ring 100% deserved this award.
God of War’s soundtrack was ok, but both Elden Ring and Xenoblade blew it out of the water. There’s almost always one category that gets hit hard with recency bias every year, and I guess this one was it.
@@Quotenwagnerianer It's like every other awards show. Especially for an element like Score, most voters aren't going to go out of their way to listen to the ost for every game that came out this year. And given that insiders are the main voting pool, what's going to win? The score for a niche JRPG that came out months ago, or the new hotness that even journalists who didn't have it assigned to them most definitely played.
So many people have an issue with this award and it isn't just the Xenoblade fans; Ragnarok's soundtrack is great... but the public feels that other nominees did more with their scores for the award and I'm inclined to agree with them. No one should be able to say with a straight face that Ragnarok has integrated its music better into its game than the likes of Elden Ring, Metal: Hellsinger or Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Metal: Hellsinger incorporates a lot of dynamic elements into its music that intensify the better you play, Elden Ring uses its music to tell the stories of the characters in the game and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 incorporates its leitmotifs into the very themes of the game. And from what is known, Ragnarok doesn't nail any of these traits any better than these nominees. It's why I feel confident in saying that, on an objective level, Ragnarok didn't deserve Best Score
It's your opinion on the soundtrack itself but you use the word 'integrated' and say GOW wasn't able to do it better? The game is heavily focused on narrative and the music is literally one of the main elements of the scene that's going on. Games like Elden Ring only have those in bosses and it sticks to the boss theme. Gow's music changes and progresses with the scene. To not notice this you either didn't play the game or played with the ost off
@@vegitoda4738 It uses the music to show what is happening that is true. But every other game nominated did so as well in one shape or another. Elden Ring doesn't necessarily have a traditional narrative and instead uses the atmosphere and world to show off the lore with the music playing around that idea. Like I said, Ragnarok has a fantastic soundtrack but it's not the best of the year because the other nominees either outdo it or go in a unique direction that helps the game shine in a unique way
@@vegitoda4738 ragnarok is shit. I completed the one before this and stopped with ragnarok after Italian American mafia gangster odin came in. What a stupid game.
@@Daltano_Bradley wow, I didn’t know he was also a voice actor. I know of bear because he makes the music for the walking dead, and then found out he made the music for both god of war games

God of War was so amazing but imma be honest, the OST was forgettable to me 💀 ER and XC3’s ost hit so much more specifically XC3. Congrats to GoW but I heavily disagree with this award
@@thegamewin100 dude out of all the pieces in the musical medley Xenoblade and Stray pieces stood out the most. Look I love Ragnarok, the game is deserving of "game of the year", but best soundtrack isn't really deserving considering it reuses a crap ton of it's music from "God of War(2018)" and only has 28 tracks throughout the game while Xenoblade has over 140 tracks over a span of 12 freakin hours both of quality and quantity may use light motif of the two pervious game as a reference to those game but still manages to still be unique.
@@0senBlade ragnarok has alot more tracks for some stupid reason they don’t show up on the official soundtrack last quality over quantity you don’t need the many songs
@@thegamewin100 if quality is just basically reusing the same songs and scores in the 2018 God of war then quality must be cheap because at the very least even in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 they try to do new and unique, they may use motifs to basically make reference to the last two games but it's purpose is basically to say how both of those two games worlds have merged.
Im sorry but elden rings soundtrack is a thousand times better and it should have won. Gow Ragnarok has good soundtrack but comes nowhere near close to the wagner feel that elden ring creates that instead gow should have created.
Xenoblade 3 was robbed. Can't believe the game that has the legendary composer Yasunori Mitsuda that did the soundtrack for Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Xenosaga, and a handful of Final Fantasy games lost to someone that makes forgetful orchestral music.
I honestly think that the scores in Elden Ring are better than that of GOW Ragnarok. Although I do agree that GOW deserved other titles and could have been GOTY (Although Elden Ring deserved it), the music award imo should have gone to Elden Ring. The Soulsborne franchise has always given us some of the best soundtracks in any game.
@@nineten9011 srry xenoblade does not cut it. The other two did better in this award just with how it fit in with the games and the situations where the soundtracks played
Dude basically just walked up to the stage, subtly pointed out the fact his music did not deserve to win, and then proceeded to forget everything but three notes. This award should have gone to Elden Ring, Metal: Hellsinger, or Xenoblade Chronicles. What happened is the poll told the Game Awards producers they could not accept Sony's bribe for GoW to win GotY, so they just started throwing randoms awards at them, because people cared less about those. That's how they got music and Art Direction. I'm not saying GoW is bad -- they just don't excel in any of those categories.
