Beard Balm?? Maybe Beard Oil??? Or crap, what this Beard Butter stuff?!!? Today we are going to try to decode and explain the differences in beard balm vs beard oil vs beard butter. There are some overlap in the beard balm and beard butter categories but hopefully we can get you squared away and by the end of the vid you will know which is right for you. Beard Oil, beard balm, or beard butter. Maybe a combination of a couple. Hope you enjoy the vid

Great video and a commonly asked question! 🚨Oil = nourish the skin first & then the hair. 🚨Balm = more beeswax to style the hair with some nourishment. 🚨Butter = little to no beeswax to deeply nourish & condition the hair, mainly used in night routines. 🚨Wax = high levels of beeswax for firm styling. 🧔💪 Keep the bears videos coming!!

@@JeremySiers have you dabbled with butters that have beeswax? Curious on your preference compared to the whipped style with Fresh Beards? Thanks for the response!

I’ve tried just about every type of beard product on the market over the last 8-9 years I’ve been growing a beard, 😉. Although I will say it’s getting harder these days because there are just soooo many new products and companies popping up everyday. Don’t have a huge preference and to be honest a lot of them run together. And a lot of time I make my own. The ones I mentioned in this video are kinda some standouts for me right now though. I like the companies, all of them make my beard feel pretty great. To answer you question about butters though 🤔..... for just straight softening and conditioning I’d prob prefer something with no wax. But on those days my beard is a little grumpy and has a mind of its own, something with a little wax can help tame the beast 😂. Fresh beards does have some amazing scents. Favorite scent to date though if still temple smoke from BeardBrand. Just love the way that stuff smells.

Also a good tip is to not mix too many competing fragrances together either shampoo/conditioner, body wash, beard oils, balms, deodorant, colognes/body sprays, plus clothing detergents/fabric softeners keeping everything neutral until the last layer. I have a fragrance free beard oil then a nice smelling balm also if you purchase items from the same company you can usually get the same fragrance across the product line.

I think what’s best is beard wash, oil then balm (if it’s long). That’s it.

Very good observation! I was thinking about it today. I have a cologne that is strong and my beard oil is also kind of strong. So I feel it competes and may be overwhelming. So I started to avoid the cologn when the oil is strong.

I think you nailed it. Oil is easier to put in and it's good for the skin and restoring oils to the hair. Butter is a creamier version of oil. I prefer butters if possible. Balms are thicker thanks to the wax and are gonna give more of a styling hold. Just kinda depends on what the user is looking to do and what medium they prefer

@@JeremySiers I really recommend you trying out my Astros classics I've been with Master's classics ever since I was in the 11th grade. Their beard oil is honestly some of the thickest silkiest badass oil out there! they have a beard oil a beard finished beard butter and beard washed I have all of those and honestly there might to go to you can find them online your local barber shop and at Target along with other stores! I'm definitely going to try beardbrand it's been awhile since I spoiled myself. also there's this really small company that I support since 11th grade as well they're called big red Beard Combs and honestly they have products you can find everywhere else but you can honestly feel the craftsmanship and dedication this guy puts it into each little piece beard products. From his leathers wallets, to his Combs, oil, wax and balm it's all grade A quality stuff

Here’s something for your analytics. I’m female (fairly butch). But, also 45% Sicilian 1% Greek. 1% Turkish. The rest is Irish Scottish ( I’m not crap! Yay! ) Welsh, England area and German. So, my odds for having a beard are high. And I’m 52....I may have a more luscious beard than you possibly. Hey, anything can happen with those percentages. As I told you on IG, you’re my spirit animal. 🤓. Keep up the great ( and may I add quality ) vids and photography. 🤓✌🏼♥️☕️🥃. Another awesome video! For the oils, I've found making my own to be a great process. Buying oil, you're stuck with whatever smells they want to provide. Making your own, as you said, not only is economical, but you can also experiment with what works for you personally. You can dial up or down specific smells. However, I do also like to try out new brands - so thanks for providing some recommendations.

Great video, I have had my beard for some time now like maybe 8 or 9 years. Stated out not knowing anything about the products until I joined a beard club and started doing competitions. That is where I learned abut what to use. It has turned gray now and is still not down to my waste yet like my great grandfather's was. I use all of those products you talked about but did not know about all the ingredients and what to look for. To answer the question, Did I win any of the compactions? Yes I won first place is some and Best in Show as well. It was the best time of my adult life and meet a lot of great bearded and non bearded people with there beard loving women. I've had my beard now for 3 years and I can pretty confidently say normal products work well enough, shampoos and conditions for beards are not needed and beards in general can be as complicated as you wish. It can be high maintenance if you want or it can be low, I wash my beard once a week (with shampoo) and rinse it daily (mostly in the morning while washing every other day with normal conditioner only. I don't actually own any authentic beard oils, I've just stopped buying them and substituted with argon oil (pretty cheap if you buy a large bottle like $6 enough to last for a year) and leave in conditioner (I prefer the palmer brand) coconut which also reminds me I do use coconut oil on occasion. I get some people like to keep it high maintenance and nothing wrong with that but in the long run I think if it's something you want to keep you will eventually need to calm down and make the routine more simple. Only real beard related item I would recommend (while I guess not meant for beards) is a Kent comb they may seem excessively expensive to some for a comb but they are like magic lol they work extremely well and can pretty much de-tangle any beard and work really well as a quick touch up if you have a long beard (wind can really make a nice beard look neglected). I personally like afro picks tho as mines pretty thick and about 8-9 inches long (traditional full beard) and combing can... I don't know how to put it... just compact your beard and make it look odd afro picks work well for spacing it out and giving it a normal love. I have a lot of respect for these channels I used them as well when I first started but not everything MUST BE designed for beards only you can get by really well with just your normal every day products (and as he said) some form of a oil in between.

Maybe should wash more than once a week. If it’s 3 years long, than I would recommend 3X a week. That’s only my opinion. Myself I have to wash 4-5 times a week I just feel it’s dirty, grimy with the beard oil I use.

an awesome review/explaination video, atm im using a beard butter that has grotein in (its sposed to be really good for growth and health of the beard?!!) it has a fairly neutral smell to it, not quite unscented, but near as! then after a few hours i will use a balm, i tend to switch scents on this depending on mood and occasion, my go to beard balm though is from the beard care club, and is their '50scent' scent (see what they did there!!) it has a vanilla tobacco smell, or i will use a uk branded balm, scented with lemon, raspberry, bergamot, and a few woody scents too... i will tend to use oils at night before i go to bed to give them the moisture they need over night

Usually beard-channels over do it with the macho typa shit, but this seems more like some humour to spice the content up for someone who is genuinly just making content about beards, which is what they happen to enjoy. The entertaining twist makes the helpful parts even more enjoyable. Just commenting 'cause I know it gives videos traction and being my first time in this cannel, this seems like valuable content. Skrrt!

Clear as mud yep, but the mud is a lot less thick now. :) Thanks Jeremy, great video. Is there a way to tell a quality product line from a not so great product line before spending money?

I am only four month in my beard growth, starting to play with some beard products. So far, I am not a big fan of oils, to be honest. Eventually they cause pimples under the beard, so I want to wash them off every morning, which is not good either. I find the best combination is a daily use of conditioner with some beard balm applied on top surface, not skin. I also found that 100% natural conditioners actually stiffen my beard, while those that contain some fatty alcohols make it softer (my beard hair naturally is very stiff). I tried to stay away from alcohols in the products that I buy initially, but did my research and found that not alcohols are the same. Fatty alcohols act more like oils, so now I am actually looking for product that contain oils and alcohols, but not much of other staff.

FISTICUFFS Grave before Shave, best brand I've used so far. They also make tattoo balm. A keratin oil treatment from Lanza once a month, it's a beauty shop product but it has a subtle smell.

I dig it. You should check out Wildrose/Wildman oils and butters. I always order the Raven scent. It's like a woody rainforest smell. The ladies like it. Thanks for the great video, as always!

New to this channel and have a question.are any of the recommendations paid ads other than the affiliate Amazon links? Ads aren't a problem for me but these days I need to know clearly what is paid support and what is not. Didn't notice anything in the video

I'm fond of Kingsman beard products and honest Amish they seem to work very good. Not that cheap though but they're worth it.
