I only started watching GBB beatboxing competitions a few days ago but I am completely blown away by the talent on show. Massive range of sounds, unique compositions, keeping a tight beat. And that bass. Wholly cow.
As far as breath control goes, some of the sound effects are inhales instead of exhales and it's also about balancing the two types of techniques so you can pretty much go forever if you do it right. It's crazy impressive the level these people take it at these competitions.
Reeps One (the judge on the right of the table between the other two judges, at the start of the video during DLow's elim) specifically pushes himself to do shows that are several hours long, of just him straight beatboxing. The commitment of some of these beatboxers is fucking nuts.

When you were talking about breath control, that is very important yes, but it will be rare that you hold your breath so super long as you take into consideration all the sounds that you do by breathing in and out, and use those to create your beats :)
A lot of what he is doing is actually him breathing in while making sounds, which is what allows him to "hold his breath" like you mentioned, Stevie. There are a lot of techniques that require breathing in so he can manage it where he doesn't need to stop to take a breath. It would make anyone who's not very well practiced in doing that light headed though, so he's done a lot of practicing. D-low's crazy though. Also, if you wanna hear some sick shit look up Inertia - Smoke Bullet. He is the Inward Bass God, in a lot of people's opinions, and is my favorite beatboxer. Love your vids.
They can breath as they do it, some sounds go inwards pulling air in, other put the air out, the right balance of combinations allow breathing while doing it.
That guy "rolling" is actually a beat boxer as well. He goes by the name BBK. Your reaction to him was hilarious, if you watch any more, you will notice he is in almost all of them doing these crazy faces.
About the breathing thing. 30-40% of all the sounds you hear are inward. He’s basically breathing all the time. Most of the breathing techniques are used in the beats so you “rarely” hear them if you’re new to beatboxing.

If you like bass drops check out Napom he has some crazy bass drops. Been following beatboxing and rap for many years you don’t need to hold your breath for beatboxing many sounds you make requires breathing inwards(example the big bass drop). Also reeps one who’s on of the judges does do full on one hour shows just cause you asked if they could. Anyways keep up the great work man always love your videos!
