it's crazy to think they were out digging for the vinyl and then making these beats entirely in the hardware. No downloading mp3s and chopping them up on the computer for the pioneers. They stretched the limits of what music hardware could do back in the day.

Since the sample was pitched down half a semi tone, did you have to pitch the bass down half a semi tone as well to get it in tune with the sample since it is no longer in the A = 440 hz scale?

In an interview DJ premier said you can hear Nas on the track say I dont know how to start this because of the rhythm of the sample then procedes to spit the whole first verse on the first take
