This is a band who isn't afraid to be themselves and release their own music. That's why I love them. And Calvin Johnson is one tough dude... Don't let him fool you.
I don't even listen to punk music but I love this band. The reason is because they seem to be doing what they love doing, for the sake of doing it. They're being humble, and they're being themselves.
everything about this video rocks - the drummer's shirt, the singers hair, the kid that can barely play that sweet ass looking guitar. Thanks for the vid!
Calvin Johnson is a bit of a hero of mine. He started he's own label, he held the International Pop Underground Convention and he was in one of the best indie bands of all time.
"Hipster" had been revived by the early '90s, when Spy Magazine used it to refer to various demimonde celebs...although actually it more accurately described Spy's staff and subscribers.
One of the greatest bands ever shame I only discovered them after they'd split. It's the fact they can't play that makes me like them they still had the guts to go out and do it these guys are punk in it's truest sense it aint about haircuts.
Yo what the fuck. I remember I stumbled across this video when I was super young and I was confused as shit. But I do remember I still thought it was kinda cool, and the ocean spray tshirt imagine stuck w me. Then I forgot about it altogether and grew up. Now I'm older and beat happening is my prob my favorite band and seeing this video again was toooo fucking real. It's like the universe brought me here
Also - They don't always look so reluctant and lethargic when they perform. This song calls for and creates a grim, downer mood laced with thick sexy syrup. I think their demeanor as a band is appropriate and adds to the performance.
My sister's got a rental house in Montesano, so there's actually a chance that I would be in that neck of the woods sometime. I really like the image of an Ocean Spray factory, but I'm pretty sure they use farms instead. I suppose a bottling plant counts as a factory, but it's nowhere as cool as a giant machine that spits out cranberries would be.
They are the most original band in the world..I understand your opinion..you should check out Dub Narcotic Sound System or The Halo Benders..I think you would probably like them!! But Beat Happening is really good..listen to them more and you will grow to like them! Trust me!
i really want calvin johnson's shirt. he looks adorable here. the others looks pretty bored, but i think it goes well with the deadpan vibe of the song.
Sure. The other guy is Doug Martsch from Built to Spill (who is also responsible for most of the interesting guitarwork). I like the voice interplay. Cheers!
oh my god.....didn't realize that I'd already viewed this video and was about to make this very same comment..... I may be in a rut but at least I'm consistent!
I'm into oldschool postpunk, oldschool industrial, synthwave and yeah, also the infamous italodisco - so obviously this it's not my thing at all - i don't find this band annoying though, I think i will investigate more about them... I'm pointing out that it's not annoying bc i'm well aware of the influence of this band over whole genres that i cannt stand. It's not overrated as the pissed off Fugazi fanboy says here ... it's just another genre, nothing to do with Fugazi (quite awesome band) Throwing stuff on stage is extremely rude - usually smelly punks do that.
Pearl Jam once did a cover version of this when they played the Gene Peak Arena in McBean, Ga. Eddie introduced it as, "Here's a song about eating s*%t"
The black archtop in this video looks very similar to this Silvertone on ebay. However, the guitar in the video could be a Harmony or a Kay: www.ebay.com/itm/Silvertone-Archtop-Acoustic-Guitar-Currently-Strung-Left-Handed-/161332465655?pt=Guitar&hash=item25902a0ff7
Oh, I'm just funnin'. You don't often see brand names in music videos anymore. Just that lawyerly blur that always makes me wonder for a split-second whether I've got glaucoma.
