this is a very hard video to find,i have it because i am in it, i am the guy in the blue demin jacket, you can see me on the right hand side jumping about like a loon at 0:08 and 2:48
"Vanity and presumption, deffo!" think I have a Fall problem; I listen to them most of the time. Nearly everything else sounds too normal, too produced. Perhaps everyone else wants to be loved and overdoes it. The Fall don't care and they don't like you. They just make music only god or the devil could make. Most other artists make stuff somewhere in between.
You liked it, and The Fall, before the advert though, right? It's not the first time you heard it. Can't remember who said it, but somebody said they hoped at least whoever wrote the song actually got paid. Ah, now I look it up, a court case. Headline: "Fall lyrics 'hard to hear', says judge in copyright case " Haha! It'd have been worth suing over their entire back catalogue just to baffle half the British justice system trying to figure out what he's singing. Getting in experts in ancient Babylonian, and the latest supercomputers using AI to try dissect the actual words coming out of MES's mouth, and if indeed they actually ARE words, and if they are, what language could they possibly be? Then a bloke from Bury comes in, and just tells them. He's actually a French prince. Here's that court case, if you're interested - www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jun/03/fall-lyrics-song-copyright He was a tight old fucker, Mark E Smith. Wouldn't spend 50 quid on a video, then argues over royalties for his ale money.
Truly great group ! they have a reputation for being , perhaps indie or whatever else , but just think a moment about the very catchy Fall songs that you can sing along to ! This is one of them , there are many ( and I mean many ) others , I will mention just a few . Elastic Man , Creep , Cyber Insekt , Kicker Conspiracy , Hit the North . The list goes on ... and on , my point ?? The Fall are not only one of the great rock groups , but are also one of the great pop groups .
Cyber Insekt is a great song, MES banging on about book versions of films adapted from music albums and whatnot, the books on the shelf in a railway station WH Smith. I think pop consumers usually expect things to be about love. Really dodgy, ill-advised relationships between daft women and dickhead men. Yellow moth flies adapted from a Frank Chickens sketch, not so much. Some of the songs you mention I'm not so keen on. Most of what they did up to the late 80s sounds pretty awful to me, with a few exceptions (Iceland is sort of wonderful in it's unique way). Roche Rumble though is horrible, some daft kid who doesn't know what he's talking about. I do like Hit The North though, 95% guaranteed. Trust In Me is legendary, went round and round my head. I haven't played a song over and over like that since I first got the Pixies Doolittle album. Yeah The Fall had lots of quite poppy riffs and tunes. But the lyrics would never have been acceptable, nor a bloke who basically can't sing a note, rambling nonsense into the mic. We love it cos we're groovy people who can appreciate the unexpected and experimental, new things to destroy boundaries that had no business being there in the first place. But yeah they're no Kylie. I wouldn't have them any other way. It's why they've had 40 years of diehard fans, where Rick Astley lasted one album (not 40-odd!) with his pop stylings.
@@greenaum oh man rick astley had that "hit" single- i remember its video being played on tv constantly and it really filled me with the most miserable feeling! It was an absolute nightmare! Misery to the point of terror
Amazing as always from The Fall. Love Wake up in the City, Scareball and massively amazing is Brix Smith's Rhythm guitar in "The Mixer" (live verson here on RU-vid, five minutes-plus??). Freaking underrated to the hilt, was The Fall!
Great song & video, and super loon jumping! Thanks for putting this up. God knows The Fall can be disappointing and live you can't be sure what it's going to be, but it's undeniable that unlike many 'solid and reliable' groups you have the chance of something BRILLIANT.
YOU SAY WHAT ABOUT THE MEEK, I SAY THEY GOT A BLOODY CHEEK!! hahahaha this lyric is perfect example why this man is fuckin greatest lyricist/poet/writer/singer/performer alive so fuckin beautifully honest and unpretentious and cutting it hurts ouch!! i love u mark E smith
I can't make him out. In those scenes there's a dozen mad blokes jumping about! I can't really make out a blue anything. Hey Stefan, can you put a picture up somewhere online with a frame captured with a big arrow pointing at you? Just curious!
Remember watching my recording of this for the first time when MTV2 120 Minutes finally played it after..erm..about three years of requesting. Glad to see it here again.
