He had one of the more memorable go downs in this battle. Your Dad is a Legend to all of us. Millions of us all over the world looked up to him and all the others in this scene.
It just brings tears to my eyes looking at this. We were so young. I remember doing all of those dance moves. No guns, no knives, no fighting, just straight up dancing! Oh yeah, I tried to do one of those moves the other day and almost ended up in the emergency room. Just can't do it no more! Oh well I have my memories😳😳😳😳
Yes that is the way we settled our Beef it kept alot of the home boys from getting shot or going to jail And we didn't get on social media and talked shit
I cant believe you should be proud because of this is the best battle dancers of all time , im 52 years old and i was listened to beat street film and nowaday keep on listening to.....im from pto natales south of patagonia and in that age i was a teenboy , today there is no anyfilm like beat street obviously about music......my regards....!!!!!
We used to blag scraps / offcuts of linoleum from local hardware shops (1982 - '85) \😼/ - I remember one time we tacked some lino to a bus stop roof and spent the afternoon throwing down our amateur kid moves up there, with old ladies waiting for the number 37 bus underneath... XD
THIS Movie LITERALLY change my life. It started me into hip-hop movement. Breakdancing gave the confidence that I need in my youth and lead me to a great phase of discipline and dedication that later on reflected positively in may areas of my life. B-boy FOREVER!
Ricksonkimura And I especially can't get past the way Kuriaki and Buck were reportedly murdered. What a contrast of being a part of such a fantastic cultural classic and to then die that way. R.I.P. Kuriaki and Buck
I heard that buck4's brother Flex blamed kuryaki for his death at that time and had him killed for revenge and legs was down with Flex and snitched to the killers his address in Mount Vernon.but it's alleged..lots of gossip but Flex is doing time in jail and legs never talks about kuryaki
Yes!---Adidas with the fat laces, Pumas,Kangos, and colored Lee Jeans, tee shirts and hoodies with your name on it , and track suits---loved that style.
A n.v d don't forget Sheepskins,Lumberjacks,goosedowns,name belts,then later k swiss,black reboks,pants with the suspenders hanging down,baggy pants(pants hanging off the ass started around '89/'90)
I’m from the Bronx and this was my life back in the day. We used to break at the subway stops for money, cops would chase us out. Best time of my life.
I was an extra when this was filmed in the Roxy, in 1983. We were given $50 per day for about 3days worth of filming. It’s funny to see myself in a few scenes some 34 years later. Where has the time gone
I'm 24 and this is probably my favorite dancing movie of all time, Breakin' being the runner up. I remember taking hip hop classes in elementary and middle school. In the main office/waiting room area we had one of those small CRT TV's and one of the three movies we had was Beat Street. I'd play that movie literally any chance I got before class started and to this day, I still feel my soul light up whenever I see the Roxy battle. Truly a timeless classic.

@@gaffle-411 Ha! I thought I was the only one that did that, this and Breakin were my movies that were in heavy rotation on my little vhs in my room growing up. And they were on one vhs, remember how people used to dub multiple movies on one tape?😁✌️
chino's routine is soooo clllleeeaannnn (clean)!!!. everything is so well executed from the amazing coin drop at 2.27 to the so smooth windmill to the amazing freeze at the end of his routine. pure class!
Fell in love with break dancin in the early 90s. My neighbor (who was a high school breaker at the time) introduced me. Eventually I could work my way into shuffles, flares, headspins and windmills. This movie blowed my mind when I first saw it on a recorded VHS 25 years ago. I was only around 9 or 10 years old when I started break dancing but I could dance with the older kids. Those were fun times
M3CA Hakiri I don’t know about that, tons of diversity in the crowd and amongst the dancers, and no beefs just people getting along. Maybe progressives haven’t brought much progress?
I remember watching this movie 8-10 times in the theater with some friends. Since there was no internet, we desperately tried to memorize the dance moves 😀
One of the greatest breakdancing movies of all time I grew up in NYC I'm 52 I remember the local battles and the feel I was living it at that time just watching this!!
I have watched this video many many times and Kuriaki (RIP) still takes my breath away and Pex and Chino both have fantastic execution in their moves and amazing freezes at the end - so much style! You do not see that with the so called bboys of today's era.
***** Kuriaki, Buck Four and Glidemaster (NYCB) all passed away - RIP. There is a video on youtube that updates you on the actors and what they are doing now...for the breakers - harder to find but I think Doze went into art and graffiti, Crazy Legs and Prince Ken Swift still active in the bboy scene. Pex - still slightly active...don't know much about the others.
This was the movie that got me into breakin in the early 80s. We had never seen anything like it before and soon had a small crew competing with local city boys and you have to think that we were from a very small town in the centre of the UK. Amazing time of my life.
speaking as one who went through it at just the right time YES IT FUCKING WAS............HELL YEAH Although.... You need to understand something else 1. This is a movie 2. The way an actual break war would go down would be more violent , Now when i say violent i don't mean guns or knives or fists, because that was the entire point of why we had break wars. it was to settle our differences in a non violent way , but... LOL.. you gotta really fucking understand ,w hen you hated some cunt with the utmost intensity and he called you "TOY" which means (Absolutely fucked and a poser) it wasn't a game No, the reality of the break wars is that was it deadly serious and there were times when we thought some bloke was gonna break the rules and punch the other guy in the face because they really got in each others faces while dancing , you would watch at times and think..... He's definitely gonna fucking hit him BUT.. THEY NEVER DID so yeah it was fucking awesome and we were proud to be able to tell our parents aand the cops (if they listened) that we were not fighting , even though most of the time that's what they saw it was not uncommon for cops to see like 50 kids having a break war and moving in and saying "break it up" and even arrest a few kids and when we asked what we were doing they would say were starting trouble and fighting in the streets and we would tell them , NO , WE WERE DANCING, NO ONE GOT HIM IT'S JUST ABOUT OUT DANCING THE OTHER GUY (they never listened) so it's not exactly like it was in the movie, it was a lot more intense and you could see the hate in the guys eyes that you were battling against, but then again , you could have been breaking with your mate and it was all in good fun BUT YEAH. DEFINITELY AWESOME TIMES AND TO US IT FELT LIKE A FIGHT AT TIMES, WE REALLY DID TAKE IT SERIOUSLY and if the other crew lost, the rules were simple.. you had to shut the fuck up because you got showed out IT WAS OUR WAY OF SOLVING PROBLEMS WITHOUT FIGHTING
Am 37 and some a few years younger and past my time we were the last rsw generation of bboying we dident have snap chat instagram facebook or any of this easy props stuff if you went to another city and some one knew your name and herd about you with out ever metting them then you got real juice and respect for it back when you had to realy grind for your reputation now a 20 second tiktok and all the sudden yoyr hot shit were the old guard like my self will call it out as being corny and weak no soul no style no hunger nothing just geting easy props is cool now nobody grinds or works on a style and am from canada and one style saved foot work that was invented in toronto called origami buy vengence of boogie bratz
Blast from the past , the song was "Breakers Revenge" and the burnout was between New York city Breakers and Rock Steady Crew . Has to be the best breakdance battle I ever saw, couldn't really pick a winner but enjoyed it thoroughly , the 80's were magical musically
it was an epic battle I was 13 watching this .. greatest breakin iv ever seen and they were so athletically gifted and so much energy wow it never gets old!!!!!
The clubs were excellent. Music pumping and drinks were flowing. The smell of cigarettes, perfume and cologne in the air. Those were the nights that never ended.
And this is why Im still rocking my puma suede's and she'll toes...closet full of both all colors....this was my era... And my crew wasn't nothing to play with at the party...windmills, hand spins , head spins, Thomas flares and all...if you know you know..
Wow this battle is brilliant. I remember watching Beat Street at the Cinema when it was released, me and my friends kept talking about it for years, I miss the 80s!!!
It seems like yesterday, when this was filmed.. I used to hang in the roxy every friday for what used to be Hip Hop Culture night, orig on Thurs. A few corrections for all of you interested.. 1) Its called Breakin, not breakdancing 2) what you call " windmills" were originally named continuous backspins! 3) The 4 elements of Hip Hop are: DJing, MCing, Tagging, and BBoying. I was privledged to be hanging out with RSC back in the day at 99th and Amsterdam Ave... Shout Out to.......Johnny Roman,RIP
@@stevejackierdxiukt1154 Flip is the tall black guy in red (NYC Breakers) with the short Afro who comes out uprocking and then does a complete flip before going into his floor break. His floor work is breathtaking to watch…so smooth that he makes the shit looks too easy. My favorite break dancer of all time.
I know what you mean by no guns but guns do have their place in society like for example when a mother is left alone to protect her children while her husband works overtime! However that's a different discussion. Peace.
Just turned 54. This is how we battled and settled things back in the 80’s. Could do all of these moves. We called ourselves ‘Supreme Street Team’ Self taught, did many shows, was a teacher, and made some good cash from breaking. Seems like a lifetime ago. Can still pop, lock, wave, and throw down. Nothing on the ground now tho. Lol.
I feel you bro @) omce upon a time i used to actually practice "locking!!" now my shit just randomly locks up after sleeping!!! I can turn my head to look down the road and fuk my shit up real good now lol
Too bad i was only aged 1 when this was released. However, my father was one of the extras on set! Definitely the best hip hop/street dance movie of all times. Forget: Step Up, Save the Last Dance, You Got Served, Stomp the Yard, Honey etc... Beat Street is where it's at👑. *"Beat Street Breakdown, rrrrhaa!🎵"*
Old enough to have seen this at cinema in London when it came out. After the film the foyer ( which had a polished floor ) was full of Bboys windmilling. Insane. The staff didn’t know what to do. Good times.
LOL and... i think given the audience here you don't really need to tell us that the foyer floor was polished you just need to say ... AFTER THE FILM...... IN THE FOYER (enough said LOL)
Esse é sempre SERÁ O BREAK RAIZ!!!! ATUALMENTE HOJE SOU DO REGGAE, MAS TIVE A HORA E ALEGRIA DE DANÇAR BREAK NA EPOCA, DO FILME BEAT STREAT, DANCAVAMOR NA FRETE DE UM SHOPPING E SEGURANÇAS NOS EXPULSSAVA, KKKKKK D+++++ TUDOOOO ISSO SÓ GRATIDÃO , MAN
I'm 49 now and I Loved watching this as a teenager and I still do now. Just timeless fun and brilliant break dancing. I am glad with a teenager through those times.
Man I wish I could be able to enter into a nightclub and everybody was dancing like this👏 I'm only 23y and I'm all about 60's till 90's but unfortunately day by day this hype is getting more rare
We had so much fun back in these days. No guns, no knives, just music and our energy. These days are long gone but we have our memories to cherish from this era. Love the 80s!
Love the comments, true love for the old days, different times of beats and rhymes. I was never that good at breakdancing, so stuck to playing the decks and spraying up walls, but watching this always cheers me up, love the movie. Along with Wildstyle true blue classics
This is how it really went down in nyc in the 80 miss them days this is the real break dancers it was a life style and our culture black and brown together stand up one ☝🏾☝🏿Love
just how we used to do it back in the day. Loved this film, we would wag school and watch it endlessly then go and break in the youth clubs and high rise housing blocks as their floors were always clean and slippy. Straight outta Sheffield '84
