The Abyss Watchers are one of my favorites in all of Soulsborne, tied in second with SoC, only outdone by Gehrman. I've known about them as long as I've known about Dark Souls. Needless to say... watching that kinda stung.

@@greenhydra10 i absolutely hated them cause of how much i sucked at learning how to fight them, took me like 50 attempts until i learned that the third guy is an ally

The sad thing about Abyss Watchers is that even under normal conditions, they tend to die very fast. If they had a little bit more health to prolong the fight, you could at least get to listen to the OST fully. It's one of the most hard hitting pieces of music in the game, but the fight never lasts that long.

By doing it out of order, he made half the bosses unfun for himself due to how stupidly easy they were (yes, he still could have fun, but that's due to being an experienced player). If you play the game in the intended order, each new area is exciting and difficult

@@Terkiaz While this is controversial, I actually agree, and it's something I really started to appreciate once I played Sekiro. Eldritch Augur's review of Dark Souls bosses summed this up best when he talked about Twin Princes: "This boss' greatest strength is its place and its presentation. Because of Dark Souls' non-linearity, it typically has a problem towards the endgame making bosses feel climactic and challenging for a late-game player. Dark Souls 3 is the first game in the series to really nail this. While it is more linear when it comes to the sequence, bosses have to be done in a more linear order than past titles, the trade-off is that the balancing is much more precise. This fight is perfectly positioned and balanced for the tail-end of the player's journey." I worry that I sounded elitist, but my intent is to highlight the strength of having the player do things in a certain order and how having that knowledge beforehand can let the developers better structure the slowly increasing complexity of the game without creating difficulty spikes or making late-game bosses feel underwhelming. Seath and Nito can feel pretty underwhelming for how late in the game you fight them, especially since they're only fought after Ornstein and Smough. Elden Ring has several areas close to eachother that can either be difficulty spikes with enemies that one-shot or have enemies that are several levels behind and aren't a challenge.

​ @Terkiaz What you're saying doesn't make sense to me. If it was linear, people wouldn't have the option of doing it out of the intended order. It's the fact that it's open that you have this possibility. If you mean "linear" in the sense of difficulty progression, then I still don't see how this is any different from the other souls games. By that definition, Elden Ring is also linear, every From Software game would be. That's just how these games are built, the difficulty of areas are guidelines for players, while allowing people to choose to follow that or not. Even in DS1, you can do things out of the intended order and return to fight the optional bosses while being way overpowered for it. Hell, you can even max out your weapon without killing any boss other than the asylum demon and then start steamrolling through the game. That's also part of what I love about these games, you can make it as hard or as easy as you want.

Just cause it’s technically the most linear in its franchise doesn’t mean it’s a straight line. This series exemplifies that pretty well, lol.

I got Siegward killed trying to figure out his quest, and ended up so mad at the end that I decided to fight Yhorm without the Stormruler. His weapon-hand is actually very weak and does a lot of stagger damage, letting you riposte his head for massive damage. So fighting him without the Stormruler is a viable strategy.

To be fair, Vordt's hammer is one of the best Str wesapons and you can grab them early on, I had fun times with it against many bosses

usually cause everyone grabs the storm ruler so yhorm is melted with the power of two storm rulers

Siegward will usually Solo Yhorm as long as you keep him distracted. I just aggro Yhorm since I don't want to risk running to grab the Stormruler while messing around with my inventory. The "intended" way is still very messy since a lot can go wrong, and the game doesn't tell you how to use the weapon.

My first playthrough, I did the whole questline and he died against yhorm bc I didnt know how to use the storm ruler lmao

On my first playthrough I knew all about the fight, as it unfortunately wasn't a blind playthrough. I ran straight to Storm Ruler and Siegward very swiftly died while I was equipping it, I was distraught. Never had him die in any other playthroughs, or in a playthrough where I've gone as high as NG+4.

I have the opposite problem, in most of my playthroughs yhorm focused him while I grabbed the storm ruler and he dies before I even equip it or a half minute later

They put a ton of effort into making every place in the distance accurate to what's actually there. Its pretty much one to one accurate in most places

Dark Souls 3 is fantastic at geographic consistency, and making sure each area is at an accurate distance from eachother (when you look at it from afar). That's something people don't give DS3 enough credit. Just because it's more linear doesn't mean the devs didn't put effort into the world of the game.

@@KavsLockedOut Well not DS2 though, that's like its main criticism. But it was scrapped and basically started anew so there was not much time to make the world make sense as much as in others games.

Honestly, Sekiro is my favorite. I’d love to see him play it but it’s definitely not a game you can abuse like this one is… unless you’re doing base patch speed run strats and air swimming

@@elizabethhicks4181 I love Sekiro, it's a contender for my favorite one, but it's not the type of game that would be appealing to Dan. Sekiro is all about mastering a combat system and learning its rythm. You can't brute force your way to victory through overlevelling or cheesing with certain builds, and you have to go a certain order throughout areas in the game. These are not negatives, and I find improving at games that work like this extremely satisfing and rewarding in a manner not many games can offer, but it's not made for goofy antics or unconventional playstyles that would make for the type of content Dan likes to make. He would probably enjoy it more if he plays it offstream without having to worry about entertaining an audience.

My favourite instance of this is with Stardew Valley and Shane's story. He just talks to him for the blue chickens but he actually takes Shane's alcoholism and lack of drive seriously. Immediately stops giving him beers for friendship poimts is an example
