I remember seeing this on blockbuster and never rent it just because the artbox was like a pop album cover and couldn't tell what was this about

The ad for Forsaken used to be everywhere back in the day. Of course, there was no RU-vid to look it up, so I always thought it was some atmospheric, Myst like game judging from the box art. How wrong I was.

This gave me some huge nostalgia vibes for Descent.

You totally got me with the "and I mean all of them" at twenty five minutes.

I am watching every episode of him completing the N64 library and i mean all of them.

Descent was one of my true loves in the 90s. Was in college with forsaken came out - pretty good approximation of descent for console. I'm impressed it ran so well.

Watching this tells me that I shouldn't feel bad that I wasn't able to beat this game when I was a kid.

This was my FAVORITE N64 game. Took me forever to beat it. But when I did I was so pumped! I could never get any of my friends to play multiplayer though. Great review.

Old person here! When this game came out I was in highschool. It practically came with EVERY new 3d accelerator card. My friends and I were hardcore into PCs and gaming back then. Practically everyone into PC gaming at that time will remember this game fairly fondly. It's bigger brother Decent is probably the better game, but graphically the lighting in Forsaken on PC was VERY good for the time. I'm honestly amazed it wasn't a huge mess on the 64, so hats off to the devs. A serious effort was put in.

This is one of my favorite n64 games. The music is awesome, and the multiplayer is fun. I’ll still pop in on steam every now and again and to my surprise there’s usually others playing!

I’m glad you mentioned Descent because I never played Forsaken or even had any idea what it was about (remember seeing the box at rental stores though back in the day), but the first few minutes of the video seemed so familiar! I had completely forgotten about Descent, it must have been one of the first PC games I ever had. I don’t remember getting through much of it, but the style is unique enough to stick in my brain over 25 years later.

The pvp in this game was so much freaking fun. Used to play it non stop on Mplayer back in the day.

I saw this game on PC running on a 3DFX card and it looked so amazing. Of course I was excited when I discovered it was coming out on N64. I loved it. I didn't play the single player that much because I had more fun playing against multiplayer bots. Another thing I liked was the voice that announced the weapon pickups.

It's been interesting watching him dismantle my childhood n64 games one by one. He's done about 5 games that were a large part of my childhood that I found exciting and epic and played over and over again, and some of them I never quite completed. "Yaaah I give that a 2/10 for difficulty and 2/10 for enjoyability. Next game."

There is a genius multiplayer level that has a room with a sphere in it and if you go inside you eventually come out into the room with the sphere in it but you never exit the sphere. It's pretty cool.

forsaken was a iconic game that basically introduced the pvp deathmatch for many players, was not the first, but was like a unreal torunament with ships, the game deserved more versions but was left behind.

The one thing I vividly remember about playing thing game back in the day was one level in the multiplayer mode. There was a big room with a huge rock floating in the middle. But the rock had a hole in it and if you went though the hole it would lead to a much larger area inside than the rock could feasibly contain. And this area would also lead to doors back into the room in which you started. It’s hard to explain, but it messed with my head. I’ve been meaning to go back and play this game again, but I haven’t got around to it.

Wow what a blast from the past with this one! Loved the multiplayer back in the day. Also NFL Blitz rubber-banding is 2nd to none so get ready for infuriating last second improbable pick 6’s by the cpu to lose

I just remember the commercial for this game repeating "The future is Forsaken. The future is Forsaken."

This is a good game for a thumping stereo, dimming the lights and getting lit and getting lost in the levels.

I had a lot of fun with this one. I actually ended up getting it on PS1 because a friend had it on N64 and after playing it I really liked it.

We were all on Golden Eye highs during this time so we only played the vs mode. Nice to finally see the story mode.

I picked this up when it was new in 1998 - they had a big marketing campaign for it. I had fun with it, especially in multi player, but I never finished it. Hell, I'm not sure I even made it to the first spot where it let you save. Props to your efforts to completely finish this one!! Keep up the good work - this is a great series!!

Really liking this series, dude, nostalgia hitting me hard haha. This was another game that was SUPER fun playing 4 player split screen with the homies.

the commercials for this back when I was a kid were really cool. I also remember Decent as well (PC game) which was almost like a flight sim, pretty cool game.

After this challenge, it would fun for you to revisit it all the multiplayer games with a friend (or three) to rate them on how they perform based solely on multiplayer. This game along with Battletanx was one me and my brother played all the time (not the campaign but the Vs. mode).

At the time of launch Forsaken was interesting. Technically it was quite savvy on the N64. But it felt like the manual had been scrimped on. For instance, you start off mentioning the characters likely have different stats, and they do. But for the N64 it's not mentioned in-game or in the manual. I recall using the internet to find a copy of the PC Manual which did have backstories and stat specs for the player characters.

Before you said your chat compared this game to Descent, my exact thoughts were "This is just like Descent."

Forsaken was that game alot of us seen in video rental store shelves but it never gave enough info on the box to make it a worthy choice.. if only we knew

Oh shit, this takes me back. One of the few games I owned and played to death on my 64. It was so fun trying to figure out how to access the hardest tier of levels. If you don't play the levels well, you actually get downgraded to the easier path(and if you found a secret ending, you'd end up back in the higher tier).

I don't think I'd ever even seen footage from this game, but vividly remember that box art (the half of the woman's face with the heart tattoo on her cheek) in game magazine ads all the time.

That first NFL blitz is the arcade classic. An awesome game

I remember playing the multiplayer a lot as a kid. It was alot of fun.

Another amazing classic. I used to use Nim Soo Sin when I started playing too, eventually I switched to Clark Culver because his name sounds cooler. Some really great music on the OST. Apparently the gore in this game was pretty controversial at the time.

I'm surprised this isn't a more well known game. It looks amazing for its time IMO, and the controls sound ahead of its time and way better than most n64 games.

In this game there's a very fast traveling method, just fly forward and sidewards at the same time. Let you fly way faster

I loved this game as a kid. Fun stuff. One of my few rerentals because to me it was insanely hard. I remember I got to like level 5 and that's it. Wild how much more game was there I sucked to much to see lol

You can thank blockbuster for the games ability to only save a few times. It's so u can re-rent it without all ur progress lost. Gives u an actual path to victory by renting it a few times

This game seems really cool, and I too didn't realize it existed. They didn't seem to do much for themselves with that Evanescence album cover of a box art, though, did they? This is one of those moments where it bums me out how much marketing the cover a book matters, despite the old wisdom

For Dreadnought you can just fly behind it and use the yellow beam. The one that looks like arrows. Becasue this one can bounce off of surfacses so it hits almost all the time.

I almost exclusively played the multiplayer of this game back in the day. The campaign wasn't really my thing. Honestly glad to see you even enjoyed it as much as you did. Back in the old days when I was a kid, that singleplayer was just brutal.
