Beautiful...but missing a lot of features - DOCTOR WHO: 60th Anniversary Specials Steelbook Unboxing

The 90s logo on the series 3 steelbook was part of a consistent rebranding after the 50th. The 90s logo had long been the consistent logo of "classic" Doctor Who releases to separate it from the current branding from the new series. The RTD era was essentially changed after 2013 from using the new series branding to using the same legacy branding as the classic series. The first we saw this was in the 50th BD boxset, where the Smith series had the current logo, but the Eccleston and Tennant series had the 90s logo. Almost everything from that point on either used the current Moffat era logo or the legacy 90s logo. Part of a move to make it "all one series" and everything was either using the "current" or the "legacy" branding. It remained that way until Chibnall took over. He also had an "all one series" approach. But instead of a "current" and "legacy" branding, it was all just "everything uses the current logo, no exceptions".

Mine has come through the post today. Put a right big smile on my face. Needed it after the week I had haha.

I was expecting the commentaries to be audio-only, so that's a nice surprise. I wonder if it uses Profile 1.1, or if they've just put each episode on the disc twice? I could maybe see the concert being used to bulk up the 'Church on Ruby Road' disc. Missing 'Destination Skaro' is a shame though, especially as we've had all of the previous 'canon' CiN bits.

Getting this a Christmas present which I’m really looking forward to have on display with my other steelbooks.

I know they couldn't have included destination skarro given that that was filmed relatively recently, and these disks were probably in production months ago, but on the other hand, it would also feel weird to include it in ncuti's blu rays, given that it's the 14th? I own basically every episode, special, and mini extra thing from S1-S10, would feel weird if this children in needs special were suddenly never available physically.

My Steelbook arrived today. I ordered it to be supportive, but feel a little disappointed by the packaging and lack of any booklet other than marketing crap. Given that we can watch most of the content on streaming and iPlayer, BBC Studios need to make more effort.

The Decades Collection books are pretty great. Almost all of them are stand outs. Each book is set in a different decade and most try to in some way capture the feelings of that era. The 60s one focusing on a very 1960s domestic family life. The 70s one focusing on some of the political climate towards people of colour in 1970s Britain and their experiences, dealing with things like the National Front, the 90s book is basically a love letter to the Spice Girls. The approach each book takes is quite different, so I think the writers were given a very free hand in how to approach their era, but 3 of the 6 could be described as Doctor-lites. As I said, most of the books were stand outs and there was a lot of new talent in terms of names that hadn't written for Doctor Who before, or had only done short stories. The final book in particular, The Angel of Redemption for the 2010s, explores the origins for the Weeping Angels and the events of The Angels Take Manhattan from the Angel's perspective. Even gives a character journey for a Weeping Angel and that sounds like it shouldn't work but it's done so incredible well. And to top it all off the entire thing is told through poetry rather than prose. It's an incredible read. But also I do love the 60s book Imaginary Friends, the 70s book The Cradle and the 90s book Wannabes. The only real dud of the range in my opinion is The Monster in the Cupboard for the 00s. Also, The Self-Made Man for the 80s is fun, I just don't find it a particular stand out like the rest. Overall though, fantastic range with a lot of new creative voices and maintains a really high quality throughout most of the releases.

Tales from the Tardsi better get a release of its own, because it is exclusive to Iplaey at the moment. Meaning technically people outside the uk can't watch it properly. Absolute nonsense.

I want this steel book so bad but can’t find it :(

Mine arrives tomorrow. Not surprised by the omissions mentioned, wasn't expecting them to be on anyway, surprised if anyone did, and in the case of the CIN minisode glad considering what RTD did. If there is disappointment I'm just disappointed that the 3 specials themselves where in general overall good but for 60th it was a little underwhelming and slightly disappointed. I will keep for now and see how I feel in a few years on a re-watch and either keep or sell for nice price and spend it on something else. But for now will go nicely with my other steelbooks

Unfortunately the series 4 steelbook artwork actively associates disability with evil.
