I was at that show. It was at Lincoln Center. I just moved from Toronto to New York City a few weeks earlier. What a way to start my NY jazz experience

Superb!. Master Grady Tate carries the big band as it should. Great George Duvivier on bass. A very young Paquito D'Rivera playing alto in front line of reeds... Joyful be-bop!

Gives me goosebumps every time. A perfect combo of Gerry Mulligan and Dizzy Gillespie. As Thanos would say, "Perfectly balanced as all things should be"(Thanos, 2018).

False. Gerry was just different. It is true that he got a little weird at the end of his life, but his earlier stuff was genius. Also, Gerry's arranging was out of this world. I do think pepper didn't get enough recognition though...

History being made right there. Wow. What a band, great concert! And it could be said that Gerry was a somewhat unusual guest for Dizzy to share a stage with. I wouldn't be surprised for Pepper to be the baritone guest of honor rather than just in the section, being more hard-bop East Coast like Diz compared to Gerry's more West Coast cool orientation. Anyway, it was all just great great big band jazz. And how I miss it.

Earlier in this same concert Dizzy and Faddis put on such a great show that having the same from Mulligan and Adams would have flowed logically.

the Pianist is certainly not John Lewis. Looking from the back he resembles Cedar Walton, but I am not sure.

Great! though it's a lost opportunity to have Gerry and Pepper trading chorus, 8s, 4s, etc. Carney, Mulligan and Adams represent the mighty triumvirate of bary players. Mulligan is more lyrical, swinging, and tone-minded; Pepper, on the other hand, is a "shredder," double-timing, playing intricate phrases, sparing no prisoners while spinning out no less compelling stories.

That's not Pepper Adams at all. That's (as the video also points out) Gerry Mulligan. Not even close to as great.

great music... the camera work is meh

Nobody at this concert was happy to see Mulligan on the scene. He treated all of the musicians there very poorly and was beyond selfish in the planning. Diz was ready to clock him! Its sin in my eyes to ever stick Pepper in a section without a solo, let alone to back up ANY other baritone player! Part of my continued disgust of Gerry Mulligan as a person.
